What gives you that idea? All they want is an elected head of state. It's not a matter of left or right, just a matter of democracy.

The power of veto over all legislation that affects her (or Charles) personal interests, the power of veto over anything that affects the 'royal prerogative', and so on. We are not allowed to know how often the threat of veto has been used to force amendments, as the Govt says it would be 'Too expensive' to tell us.

Republic has my support in getting this country an elected head of state, so I find it such a laugh that alot of people do not get how patriotic it is to put this country plus the people first over a family who is born in to power.
I am proud to be British, I am proud of my flag but I have no pride or love for a german family that I can not vote out..

Look at your like-dislike ratio. Just saying that they should be elected, and not a reason why not is not enough to justify the abolishment of one of the most democratic governments in the world. By the way, Norway is a monarchy, and according the the World Democracy Index, it is the most democratic government. So do your research and don’t give such basic reasons.

What a good idea! Lets get rid of someone who has devoted her life to this country and is still working at the age of 87 and replace her with someone like Blair or Cameron.

Yeah re reading my comment i sound like a dick lol. I meant to say in England she still has enough to support. What powers does she have that you think could threaten democracy?

Someone with some sense. The queen is a CONSTITUTIONAL monarch, meaning she has little power, and she doesn’t even use the limited power the constitution grants her

Funny how they're like "will do all we can to ensure that the Queen's successor is chosen by - and accountable to - the British people." ... but don't you think that if the majority of people didn't want the Royal family to carry on being the head of state would we of risen up by now and fought against the monarchy? ... I actually think the majority of people actually like it this way and Republicans really just need to sit down and accept they've lost a battle they can't start!

Not exactly crowded is it? Still, let them have their day, it is not as if we will be hearing much more of them.

two serious questions for British Republicans:
    1. Once the UK becomes a republic, what should the anthem be?
    2. Should the United Kingdom allow Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland to be separate republics?

What a great event! I wish I'd been there. The monarchy is such an undemocratic institute in whichever country.

We are a United Kingdom, not a "United Republic".
Look, if you want a Republic, then go to the United States.

Sorry Jacob but you can not make a statement on behalf of every one.
She is not idolised by every one and polls have show some hate her some love her whilst others do not care who the head of state is.
The same with Americans there are those that are interested and others that do not care.
Tourism would not be altered one bit if wether we had a president or monarch as people visit the buildings not the monarch just look at France.

The idea of republican britian sounds fair enough but in practice it would be horrible who would what president Miliband or President Cameron not me I would rather stick with the monarchy which I respect
