Diana Ankudinova was born on May 31, 2003 in Russia. She participated in the Russian TV project "You are super!" in 2018 with the songs "Derniere danse" (French), "It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” (English), “The River” (Russian), “Tomorrow Is A Lie” (English) and won. In 2019, she repeated the success, won the Grand Prix on the TV show "You are super! Superseason." with the songs "Blizzard" (Russian), "Wicked Game" (English), "Human" (English).

In the TV project "You are super!" children from 8 to 18 years of age, deprived of parental care and inmates of orphanages participate. The project producers help the finalists with their studies and creative careers.
Diana has a unique voice - "contralto", the lowest female voice (F3-F5). It is very rare for girls. Diana's working range of voice is two tones lower and four tones higher than that of the contralto (D3-D6), the tenor is mezzo-soprano. Diana's rich set of techniques, emotional presentation, velvety timbre and attractive appearance make her stand out among the vocalists on the stage.
Diana continues her career as a pop singer, gives concerts in Russian cities, studies at the State Institute of Theater Arts. Diana Ankudinova has an official Internet channel on TH-cam. It contains recordings of performances from 2008 to 2021. I

Thanks Alan. It's not easy sometimes. Just when you think you have everything finished you get a "blocked" message. Then it's back to start chopping stuff out and seeing if you've chopped enough, only to find it's sometimes not. And more again. 😤 Did the best with that last section that I could.
It's a competition, you're not allowed to mess with the contestants' voices.
Diana is 15 years old here. The arraignment is amazing. Alexander Stepin, of the Russian TV station NTV deserves the credit for this. Diana's polyphonic overtones and her unusually beautiful voice was set up beautifully with this tribal fusion masterpiece. If you liked this element in the music you should check out Rechenka. Russian folk with a modern arrangement. It's simply mindboggling.

Я 50 лет искал женский вокал в музыке 60-х, 70-х и т.д. Хороших голосов много, но ничего сопоставимого нет. Голос Дианы уникален. Но помимо голоса есть что то, что делает её намного выше.

Here are three reasons why Diana doesn't sound human.
First, she is a dramatic contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich.
Second, she has a spectacular larynx. It is a gift from God, and others have called it the Eighth Wonder of the World.
Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below)
When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune.
And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion.

Hi John, I really like your videos, you have knowledge, skill and perfect atmosphere for my taste. About Diana, she is something. I think she is 16 there and I do not believe her voice is altered anymore than usual singing effects sound engineers do . There is reverb and delay as you mentioned and very good sound engineer with taste also :) If you have not heard anything like, I would suggest you to listen closely how Cher sings. Of course she is much older now but even in beginning her career that rich alto voice is recognizable. She could have done this song also effectively but of course on her own style. Diana is also using very interesting singing technics to enhance her voice, she is master with that kind of voice producing and I can not wait while she matures what kind of choices she will musically make. So she has the most rarest female voice type that is alto and that is a rich one.

Also, the talent show is for underprivileged children who otherwise would never get an opportunity to do anything like this. Diana herself was terrible abused as a young child and abandoned into an orphanage were she first learned to speak at age 4-5.

No effects here. That is really her voice. She is a contralto and one of the youngest ever known. And it is a talent show, so no effects any way, save for a bit of reverb, which is typical. Diana is otherworldly- wait till you see her sing Can't Stop Loving you. Or Rechenko. Or Human. Or Jodel Time. Or Personal Jesus.
There's one thing I really envy you for. I never inherited a coordinated left hand. Bummer.

Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest contralto type and deepest woman voice. Dimash is the universe, but Diana is the earth, our home... and when you hear her voice you feel like she has wrapped you in a warm velvet blanket and served you a mug of hot, dark chocolate. Every song is a unique experience, it captivates you, you feel bound by magic.
Diana was born in May 2003 in Arseniev in the Far East of Russia. She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had 12 pregnancies, only Diana survived ... and she did not love her child, abused her cruelly and tried to I drowned. Relatives found the child with a broken collarbone on the street and shortly afterwards took the 3-year-old girl to an orphanage. Finally there she found love ... from Irina Ponik. Taking a little child into the family was not easy for Irina. Her son was already 20 years old, the daughter 17 years old ... Start all over now? Yes!!! Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared but she all sing songs from cartoons. And so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started ...
During 2008 to 2012 Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions.
Diana's mother became her daughter's manager. Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances, competitions, looking for sponsors is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She took extra sewing courses too. Since then, she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget. She accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary.
After winning a competition in Moscow, Diana's mother was offered to leave the girl in a boarding school for gifted children. She refused and in 2012 her family moved to her hometown of Toglyatti, much closer to Moscow. Diana lost her fear that the woman who gave birth to her would kidnap her.
Diana's voice, her perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm were extraordinary even as a little girl and so she impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win.
In 2017 she went to Moscow, at the Russian 'The Voice Kids'. Diana sang 'Yodel-Time' th-cam.com/video/vKdvaWsd91Q/w-d-xo.html but none of the judges turned around but the whole audience gave 'standing ovation'. What happened? Next day, a huge scandal broke out in social medias. People demanded for Diana's participation in the competition.
A door had closed but a new door opened:
In 2018/19, Moscow hosted the 3rd season of a unique international competition instead of "You are Super", especially for adopted and orphaned children. The winner of the season (Diana) will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to TH-cam and soon she had millions of fans.
Diana won also a scholarship to the College of Music. Igor Krutoy gifted her a small apartment in Moscow. So, she could start her vocal training with the best teachers such as Professor Olga Donskoy (She died of Covid-19 in October 2020).
The break of voice made Diana’s voice even darker and deeper. She has mastered this time very professionally and has worked hard to bring back the lost high notes and has expanded her vocal range, currently from C3 to D6. Her genres are folk-rock, folk-pop, jazz, soul, blues, soldier songs and Diana-stile… tradition meets modernity.
She loves to sing in French, but also sings in English, German, Arabic and Spanish... but only phonetically.
But she is not only a great singer and storyteller, but also a humble, intelligent and hardworking young woman. She also gives charity concerts. She loves her family and her fans. They are 'friends' to her and they are very supportive of her. Diana is grateful that they helped improve her home studio and also supported her future plans. Her Russian Friends have chosen Diana as "National Treasure" (no official title).
2020 Diana graduated from high school a year earlier, as an external student and now, she is a student at the Russian Institute of Theater Arts (similar to Juilliard). She is already composing songs and we will definitely hear her own song soon.
She will only take part in major competitions if invited. Such competitions require a lot of time, effort and strength. As a result, participants often have large educational gaps and problems later on. Diana is a smart young woman. She focuses on her studies, her voice and expanding her repertoire.

I know plenty of musicians, personally, who use effects when playing live. I didn't say it wasn't live. I said it sounded like it had effects, at moments. I also didn't say that there were effects used on the lead vocal - but rather it sounded like there were (that's not the same as saying that she used effects lol). It's the same as saying "this guy sound's like he's American" when he's Canadian. Sounds like and IS are two different things. The timbre of her voice reminded me of modulation effects that I've heard used from time to time by musicians. I also do not speak Russian so those words on the screen might as well have been in Arabic or Japanese. I didn't know what it said.

Yeah there were definitely delays and reverb in use (so there are effects). As for the other comments I said it sounded as if her voice was manipulated but didn't say it was. There's a difference between saying what something sounds like and saying how it was achieved.
Dramatic coloratura. You're hearing, I think, her natural polyphonic overtones and not backing vocals (this is a contest, after all).

Thanks for your comment. There's definitely "backing" vocals as part of the arrangement. You can hear them at the moment just before I paused and commented on them. Make sure you're listening with headphones on. Timestamp 3.35 / 3.36 in the video. I appreciate that her voice is doing extra stuff that a typical singer can't do but you can even see she's not singing in the video when the voice does that "ooohh" at the moment I mentioned them.
