Great adventure. No shame in calling it. Safety and health is more important than ‘sticking’ it out. I’ve done survival camps and they are a challenge. Mostly you learn and grow no matter how old you are 😂❤😅

10 yrs ago I could've done it. Being 62 now maybe 1 night, after that I'd be all tuckered out. Good go at it guys.

Been there and done that, Twice. Appalachian trail through hike south to north and two years later north to south. That N to S trip was really rough due to time and weather. 6 months each direction. Now, with all of that said I was 23 and 25 years old at the time and in prime condition.
Good work all of you guys, it gets much tougher as you age. I am now disabled and I miss hiking so bad but glad I can live it through the trials and tribulations of others.

I have hiked across the continental divide 3 times. Had ice-cycles hanging inside the tent in the morning. At 12500 ft. Felt like I would not finish the hike. Now I am old and can’t imagine doing the same again.

I've gotta give it to you guys, at least you tried. I've done it and know and understand what you went through. To all the armchair naysayers - it's a whole lot harder than it sounds/looks.
I am expecting a Part 3, however. Proper preparation and minimal gear/supplies - be successful.

Havng growm up in the woods 80% of the time...Never go camping without proper hiking boots, a sleeping bag and a piece of real canvas. Hot or cold...always have those three things. ( beyond the water, fire etc...)

Slept in a Bivi for dozens of years in the mountains of Washington State... in all weather conditions and had no issues... except for the first couple of times before I learned How to keep it dry and warm. Since then.. mummy's and quilt bags.
Recently, I bought a 3 system bivi, and I am looking forward to using it during hunting season.

You need tree bows under a tarp for insulation from the ground. Best if you built a liento to trap the heat from the fire. 1 tarp makes a big difference, but you can also build the liento from all natural materials.

  • @Gouchybear

If you kept the rubber mule, you could cut off thin strips and melt them in the fire, then apply the molten rubber between the loose sole and the shoe. Place heavy rocks on top of the shoe until the hot rubber cools. This should bond the sole back on the shoe and get your team mate through the challenge.
Side note: be sure to clean the area to be bonded and remove any dirt/dust that may have collected. (Shoe Goo is your friend :) )
    Good luck!

Haven’t done survival training for several decades but the main thing I still follow is I do not go into the woods without clothing I can survive the cold nights (wool layers with a wind block cover) with. On the boot failure the one main thing to remember is don’t trust anything built in China doesn’t matter brand name or price they will all fail. Make the investment and get some quality custom made boots, don’t trust the mass produced junk even the danner, redwing, west coast brands are a shadow of what they once were.
