I think it was spray painted to make sure a construction worker doesn't take a piece off the site. even when it goes down into rubble a small piece with writing can be sold online to super fans

They were not engraved. It was one dimensional painted faux "engraving".
Yes, Disney destroyed a historic piece of their history and defaced it so that NO ONE COULD SAVE ANY PART OF IT.
      It's what they do now.
Star Wars and Splash Mountain being two things that spring to mind.
Maybe making puns of dead people is "problematic" and offensive now.

Minor quibble - Orleanian here ! A "Mausoleum" Is a free standing building, The multi teired wall structure u are talking about is an oven crypt in which whole families share one tomb, after a year and a day on the slab per newly passed persons. So all peoples in a vertical row would be bones to bones, or maybe bags of bones together. Mausoleums are much much nicer and expensive, oven crypts used to be a very accessible price range

Red spray paint is not a "do not destroy." If they were keeping it they would cover it with plywood to prevent damage. They haven't removed it yet because it holds a lot of dirt behind it and they're waiting until the area is mostly clear to begin replacing it.
Side note: the wall you pointed to in the concept art as the mausoleum wall was actually the wall closer to the train station in the fastpass kiosk area (it's a short brick wall now). The mausoleum area is supposed to that part covered with the ivy in the bottom right of the photo.

    • @Mike__B
      @Mike__B 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

It is odd those that the red spray paint was done in such a way that covered all the writing and any symbols beneath it, e.g. there's a red arch on some of them. If it was simply a "get rid of this wall" marking I would think they would simply put a red X over it.

If you watch how much actual Disney props go for on eBay, antique shops, second-hand shops, etc., you sort of wonder why doesn’t the Disney folks open up Disney World and Disneyland on property shops, and sell the prop items for a nice profit? I know Cast Members are able to purchase a lot of these items, at a minimal cost and resell the items at a very nice profit. Disney is all about money, so not sure why they don’t take advantage of this money making opportunity? Instead of destroying history, give the public the opportunity to own some history, and memories?

Some spray paints are designed to be easier to naturally wash off - “marking paints” for denoting where underground utilities are, for example (like the kind you see on sidewalks or on lawns). This red color could easily be marking paint.

yeah, I'd recommend trying for january, if its possible to get refunded for your booking i'd do that and rebook for tokyo disney if you can afford it, or try for a january, I highly recommend that, don't go on holidays or when the park is holiday themed unless you're fine with the crowding, and the potential to have to use genie+ (my boyfriend and I avoided it, we were on a budget as my mother was the one who paid for our entire family and some of her friends to go in october 2022. It was still fun but the experience was not as good as past visits we've had)
so I really recommend january. we went january 2017 and that was very nice. wasn't too hot or too cold, less people because most are going in the summer or already went in december for christmas break. and the theming is taken down if I recall so its the usual park look.

I’ve many friends and family that work for the Disney company and I can tell you they are in the archives. Those were re-creations from the original molts as they needed to make it out of a stronger concrete, as they were, unfortunately eroding.

Well they didn't take down the holiday decorations for HM because they are not expecting it to reopen until the next holiday, saving time in the long run, and Splash isn't supposed to be up until sometime next year I think. I mean if you want to visit a US based Disney park, I'd say go to WDW in Florida, while Splash is still down there too everything else is pretty good to go as it is.

if you're looking to go to disneyland, try for the love of all that is holy, to go when NO ONE ELSE is going.
my family made the mistake of going around halloween 2022 and it was awful. even on the not halloween days, on the weekdays, it was so extremely busy both due to themeing of the park for halloween, and halloween events, but also because people like going when its less hot or during the summer. in the past we went in January 2017 and before that we went during a summer in 2008 I think it was.
but I'd HIGHLY recommend going january. they don't have a guest number limit so if the park is jam packed, its JAM PACKED and you will not get to do everything unless you have at least four days or more as your ticket entry, and if you're doing both disneyland and california adventure, it'll be the same for the california adventure.
we had fun but it was a nightmare, the introduction of genie plus instead of the buy one fast pass for the entire park dealio is the other reason, people don't wanna pay to get through the line or can't pay to get through the line so you're either waiting hours, for a small ride, instead of a reasonable 30 minutes to an hour. in the past waits even in busy times would only be about an hour. I think part of what it was so bad too was small world was closed, some rides were breaking down throughout the day, toon town was closed and being changed.
its possible that with HM closed for a year traffic may die down so I'd go this year if you can, or next january.
the experience was a mixed bag, I had fun, we all did but I can't decide if it was worth it or not and if we should have gone to universal instead or potentially tokyo disney instead

I am so mad about magnolia park. It’s literally one of my favorite places in Disneyland. I would sit there by the fountain and relax some days. And that area that they closed off to be the club 33 foyer ( court of angels) in New Orleans Square used to be my favorite spot to wander into as well. Disney has a way of taking all the most unique Urban spaces in New Orleans Square and either privatizing them or changing them. The fact that it’s worked as both the park space on a day that wasn’t busy and overflow Q space on a day where it was needed, and now they’re going to just blow it all up is crazy. They have a lot of room to work with between the old Fastpass station and the switchback area behind the haunted mansion wall. I’m curious to see how it all looks in the end, but I’m still upset about the park itself. Hopefully it’s not too drastic of a change.

Maybe, perhaps, the red stuff is NOT spray paint. It might be a kind of mold slip compound. Maybe you have seen TV cop shows making casts of footprints or tire prints. If you wanted to get the best possible casting off the mausoleum, you might use a compound to cover the voids between concrete granules so the casting can get fine details but not get stuck to the concrete. Such a casting could be used as a mold to accurately reproduce all of the details of the mausoleum wall inscriptions. This mold could be used as part of a concrete form to build a new mausoleum wall in a new location and/or for a limited edition set of inscriptions for sale.

    • @hanonondricek411
      @hanonondricek411 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I'm with you on this. It's Disney, they can completely reproduce the wall exactly as it was or build something even better. They probably have the original renderings and color swatches for it. The red is so specifically on the lettering that it would have been easier to just paint-sprayer the entire wall go-away green than to coat the letters in such an obvious color. It makes sense they did casts of them. If they were trying to devalue the rubble to prevent thievery, they probably could have just as easily impact-hammered the lettering to dust.

I wish they wouldn't destroy props just to discourage the theme park "black market." If Disney doesn't want them, even to archive them, then put them on auction yourself. Disney could host a charity auction for St. Jude's or Make A Wish, giving collectors a legitimate way to acquire pieces (that they know are authentic) and benefitting a good cause.

There has always been retaining wall there, but the crypts were not original to the opening of the attraction. The crypts were added after it was opened and the original "family graveyard" was removed to add the queue we had all known previously. And those crypts were later removed and replaced when the wall was rebuilt to stabilize the berm.
They did their best to recreate them, I guess succeeding since you (and many others) didn't know they were not original. In the released plans, they are intended to be recreated (again) and in several years there will be others who will think like you do that the recreations will be the there since the beginning.
I know this after having worked there, going to the park since the early 70s, AND there being pictures of such posted on line.

Dallin, great HM story. At first, when you showed the red paint, I thought of Walt, when the park was being built. Red in trees meant they would stay…Green would mean they would go. Can’t wait for your updates. I used to work at the Disneyland main entrance. I am happy to see them update the system. The center gates, between the turnstiles, will provide extra security. I will further explain if you want me to. The lines, however, will still be long and will be slow….because some people, especially big families, will slow the system.

I don't think there is anybody left to save stuff? To answer your question about the Disneyland paris gates, Yes. I was there 2 weeks ago, staying at a resort hotel and got given a 'magic pass' which is your room key and park ticket in one. It is a RFID card. The gates at the entrance to the park are both barcode scanners and RFID readers so they would work with magic bands. In fact, I'm surprised that magic bands haven't become a thing at DLP yet as they already have one unified ticket for hotel rooms, entrance, and disney premier access so it seems something that should be technically possible.

the turnstiles in paris are…decent? most of the times. the biggest hurdle we have is that people don't realize they have to wait between scanning tickets so sometimes the system will stall because it thinks someone is trying to cheat by going too fast.
the cast members do NOT take pictures of guests though. regular 1-day tickets just scan normally. I'm honestly not sure there's any measure to prevent someone from sharing the QR code with other people since you don't scan it on your way out of the park. i think there's a limit in that you can't scan the same QR code twice within a set time, but it's pretty short-i've had friends be able to enter one of the parks, do one thing, then hop on over to the other park no problem, so the delay can't be more than like 30 minutes.
The only people whose picture is used are annual pass holders, since we take our picture when making the pass. but everyone else? they just go through.
also if the turnstiles are compatible with magic bands, i hope this means we're also getting magic bands in paris. that would be cool.

As far as the paint goes, I'm also inclined to call it 'antitheft' mostly because it was specifically the names and not the panels that had no names that were defaced. Once the panels were broken up, the bits with letters would be the only ones provable to have been part of the wall.
Anyway, I'm sure they're just being relocated and likely into a configuration that's different than the old ones. Also given the popularity of WDW's interactive queue, they'd have to completely redo them anyway if they wanted to hide some effect behind them.

Ok I'm going to be Crabby McCrabbypants for a moment and say the Haunted Mansion did not need new queues until Lightning Lane became a thing, especially for a ride that by all accounts does not need Lightning Lane, just like Pirates of the Caribbean and if you've seen what happened to PotC as a result of LL extended queues have gone deep into New Orleans Square with multiple switch backs... again all to accompany those who want to spend more money to ruin the time of others.
I also feel like the Haunted Mansion did not need to shut the entire ride down for such a long period of time just to build queues too, while sure construction happening outside you would wall that off and have ugly temporary queues outside those construction walls, and yes the exit would need some level of closure I feel like they could have done that part first and put all Disney laborers on deck to get that done chop chop quickly, then all the extras like a gift shop and the garden themed outdoor portion could all be build in due time. Hell Disney could do away with the ugly temporary queue and do a virtual queue if they really cared that much.
So ultimately what does Disney think people care more about? The whole experience as a whole from day 1? Or riding a functional ride that by all accounts is not changing at all and seeing different parts of the exterior finished at different times? I finish with this as an answer... Disney doesn't care what people think as long as it makes extra money from guests who get tired of waiting in horrendously long lines because they have no reason to limit the number of LL reservations as long as those who pay extra don't complain, the people who pay a huge amount complaining is still irrelevant to them. And who here thinks the Pirates LL queue is temporary until HM gets reopened? Not I!

It's NOT spray paint! It's a sealer that is used for making a mold of the engravings on said mausoleum walls. They're going to use them to recreate the new mausoleum.

Thanks Dallin! I am now thoroughly temporally stirred up as with a big stick! I think the colloquial phrase what represents this perceptual jumblement is, "ass before nipples". All I know is that, now, whenever I pass a mirror, I see myself going by in the opposite direction! Very disconcerting!
My favorite bit is that someone online said that the red paint was really a "releasing agent" to cause the easy removal of a reverse image mold that 'they' (imagineers?) had made of all of the priceless epitaphs! So as to allow exact replication on an replacement mausoleum type manifestation...
    I'm not falling for it...
    Or am I?
PS: If one looks at the pictures, one will see a large contoured pile of what looks like gravel. Because it is! They have a grinder. All the brick, mortar and concrete goes in and that gravel comes out the other end! There will be no souvenirs! Unless a tiny piece of gravel floats yer boat!

I realize this is off-topic, but Disney needs to stop tinkering and repurposing/renaming popular older attractions. Disrupting or destroying original footprints in the park that were original design that don’t really really need to be restructured. And this money and intellect into fixing what needs to be fixed.
The people mover has been sitting dormant since the early 90s. I am old enough to remember the people mover. It was one of my favorite rides within the park. Me and my friends/family would ride it routinely three or four times a trip into Disneyland Park. Could easily reinforce the structures on this track so that they are up to current code and bring this ride back with a tremendous fanfare. You would have generations of old fans come back to this park strictly for that.
The other would be to put the Astro orbiter back on top of the mover platform where it belongs like it is in Disney World ! The elevator ride up to the top was also fun. But it gave you a great view of all of tomorrowland and some of the rest of the park. Now it just blocks up the entrance to tomorrow and with the queue..
Lastly, would be to find a proper use for the old America sings building! Which was another ride I thoroughly enjoyed and remembered as a kid. Instead of all these blue sky possible ideas, they might, or might not do we’ve seen how most of them turn out with the Bayou adventure, looking nothing like the concept art. Although the ride will still remain interesting and fun, it’s not looking good in terms of living up to the expectation.
That’s all I have love your channel. I am “Pro People Mover” If you make shirts that say that I will buy several! 3xl or bigger I’m a big guy!! 😂

Those pun names are just impressions squished into concrete- if they don’t still have the thing they make the impressions with somewhere in Imagineering I guarantee they’re easily replaced. It would be much easier to re-pour a wall and re-squish than to cut up concrete for saving or to try and save a concrete wall for reuse. I get them putting a ton of little things in storage but saving the original wall for reuse or storage is a little beyond I think

My first visit to the Haunted Mansion was May 1972 and I don't remember the queue exactly, but when I visited again in June 1975 there had been changes. I thought that the '75 queue was more efficient and more entertaining than in '72, but memories fade and are recreated.
One issue to the older Disney attractions was a lack of exiting through gift shops. There are problems with redesigning the attractions and with headcount in the gift shops--but Star Traders is the exit for Star Wars and close to Space Mountain and whatever the 3-D theater is called now. Part of the Haunted Mansion redesign is plunking a gift shop at the exit to vacuum up more dollars from guests' credit card accounts. That wasn't part of the original design and that exit may be combined with Tiana's Bayou Adventure so that one existing merchandise location can serve both.
Synergetic marketing and merchandising are works in progress.

    • @jeshirekitenkatt1212
      @jeshirekitenkatt1212 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

if i were to guess, it's because during the pandemic places like theme parks, theaters, etc weren't making a ton of money. They probably had the money to do it honestly, but knowing how companies work, they probably didn't want to spend it in what they considered an uncertain time financially.
that and for a time, those workers doing the renovations were not considered essential workers. a solid chunk of the time before reopening people were also just not supposed to be working and staying home to minimize spread, remember, including people who are construction workers. overall i can't be too mad if those people weren't made to work during lockdown even if it's not all done when we'd like it to be, you know.
i didn't even get to see the castle when i went in 2019 tho, huge bummer lol
