first time watching sword art online
Love how retrospectively, “Daughter of a BASTARD” is more a statement of facts than an insult.
“WE WOULD LIKE TO BUY A CHILD PLEASE!!” is the best line in the show. Cause it shows that when Asuna is confronted with “you blinked first” she doubles down! And so does Kirito! Comedy gold 😂
The sheer amount of joy you displayed at the "right brain, left brain" jokes brought a big smile to my face. Lol this abridged series is amazing 😁
I never caught the Right Brain and Left Brain since it was in the captions.
Further proving the point that these captions adds more to the humor.
I always love the more subtle jokes in SAO. Like how "crying and huddled in a fetal position" is enough of a description for Yulier to immediately identify Thinker xD Anyway, to me this is the peak of SAO Abridged. Not that the rest isn't good, it's great, but this is the greatest episode they've ever written.
Yui is an AI. So Kirito put her data in an object so that he can use her code to recreate her once they beat the game. She's not gonna be a human, just an AI on his computer but she's still real xD He actually addresses that a bit more specifically in a later episode.
Hello, I'm the one who wrote the subtitles. But I can't take too much credit for them.
Most of the jokes or descriptions were lifted from the episode's scripts, while other are just the best descriptions I could think of if I was trying to describe a noise to a deaf person and/or a converted version of a description someone else wrote. Things like "Kirito squeals like a Velociraptor" and "Kirito's RB spits out a tooth" are all from the script, so you can thank SWE for them. I did come up with the "Left Brain/Right Brain" thing, but only based on which direction the sound was coming from.
Unfortunately, I won't be writing anymore subtitles, due to TH-cam getting rid of community contributions. I have offered my services to SWE, but they told me they already have a subtitle guy prepared. Although, they haven't written any subtitles the last time I checked, so we'll see how that goes...
@@TheBlackDemon1996 oh my goodness!! You did amazing on the subtitles regardless! I'm so glad I put the subtitles on when watching the series:)
@@TheBlackDemon1996 Can't speak for SWE, but TH-cam removing community contributions was a d*ck move, I swear they'll be removing the comment section next. I'm so sorry and thank you so much for your service.
Kirito and Asuna did, in fact, canonically marry as well at the time. The trip to floor 22 was canonically *just* the honeymoon, no further justification required.
The psychological evaluation and therapy AI, designation YUI, has the same backstory as here in canon, sans the subversion of the "true love" trope you saw in the admin room. She has a pretty generic face, so you may be confusing her for someone else.
Regardless, what Kirito did for her was genius in its simplicity. The system had tracked down her data and flagged it for deletion, so he simply saved her data over to his own console (VR game, remember?) as a different file format to confuse the system into overlooking the duplicate. Her data is still there, just under heavier restrictions as an object file.
Melon is confusing Yui with a different character in another arc of the story (Mother Rosario).
@@John_Stephens43 Yuki the girl with the purple hair and the best swordsman in SAO
He saved her as an object file in his Nervegear. I wonder if he could overwrite someone else on _their_ Nervegear, so they're replaced by Yui when they wake up in the Real World™.
@@Lycanthromancer1 that would be fucked up. So kinda in line for this show
I mean, outpacing the firewall to save a copy is still BS, but yeah that's what Kirito did.
the 70's and 80's band Foreigner made a song called "I want to know what love is". so when yui said "i wanted to know what love is" and asuna said "goddamn Foreigner" to which Kirito said "You mean the band, right?" i busted out laughing. When i saw the joke didn't even faze you, i laughed even louder. I wasn't laughing at you.....i was just so amazed that they had the foresight to throw in a joke for the older generation. amazing....SAO abridge is so well thought out and written. It truly is the best abridge Ive ever seen. (20:00)
I cry every time I see Yui die... it hurts so damned much.
Yui is an Ai, that after observing the players for two years gained sentience, she wanted to know what it ment to be alive, so she took the form of a little girl and insterted herself into Kirito and Asuna's lives, or atleast that is what I remember of it.
What Kirito did, was basically saving and compressing her data (Or brain) onto his nerve gear, so that after he got out of SAO he could download Yui and wake her up. As it stands, what Kirito did was basically the equivalent of putting her into a medically induced coma untill he has the equipment and resources to perform life-saving surgery.
“Medically Induced Coma”
Uhhhh…
@@Zack_Zander Hush. Let him figure it out
The voice acting on Asuna's scream always hits me hard, it's a abridged, why is everything so damn good, that scream had better voice acting than most professional comercial shows out there, sao abridged is amazing
About the boiling oil... I'd like to remind everyone that cities are safe zones. You know what's great about safe zones? You can't die in a safe zone. (This piece of trivia brought to you by the "Kirito Is Always Right" foundation)
For proof, see how the Laughing Coffin fanboy acted with a knife through his brain after the duel in town. The oil will hurt almost exactly like hell, but it won't kill them.
Sadistic Fluffles's idea indeed
I honestly never noticed Kirito and Asuna glancing at each other while Yulier started gushing about Thinker’s ineptitude. Thanks for pointing it out!!
The newspaper Kirito is reading says that peace talks broke down and that the leader of the Guild that Kirito and Asuna belong to is trapped behind enemy lines. Which is hilarious, because the leader of the Guild wanted to leave them both behind to avoid that very situation, due to their ability to make any situation worse. Ironic!
It's amazing how they managed to make this moment in the abridged series hit even harder emotionally than it did in the original. And that is something they continue to do moving forward.
Also this is from the wiki article for Yui:
Yui, officially named «Yui-MHCP001» (Mental Health Counseling Program 001), is a supporting character throughout the Sword Art Online series. She is a top-down Artificial Intelligence (AI) program that was originally developed by Argus to address player mental health concerns in Sword Art Online (SAO). However, when Kayaba Akihiko turned Sword Art Online into a death game, Yui was forbidden from interfering with players whatsoever by the Cardinal System, which led to her collapsing due to being forced to monitor player mental health without being able to fulfil her duties. At the end of this episode, Yui's program files were separated from the system, converted into an in-game object, and stored in Kirigaya Kazuto's (Kirito's) NerveGear.
The thing with the Original SAO, is that they stuffed all of it into one episode and/or a small section of the manga. It had no substance, and was basically a copy paste story of adoption, built so it could be thrown away, to make sure it didn't interfere with the main plot, basically, it was filler, and Yui was supposed to be meaningless.
I am personally amazed at how they took what little they were given to work with, and used it to build one of the major corner stones in Kirito and Asuna's relationship. They took a one day of bonding with some random child, and turned it into a compelling and complete story line that affects everything down the lane.
It recognises that the people involved aren't perfect, or ideal, not even decent people by most standards, and builds on that. This episode brings to light, that not everyone knows what they are feeling, and that you don't always know how to act on those emotions, often times not having the courage to confront, and accept that this is what you feel and want. People can make mistakes, and what someone thought or felt in the past, does not mean they feel the same in the present.
Sorry if this is a bit long winded.
Season 2 of SAO Abridged is ongoing but the episodes take a while. I think they're at one a year, atm. Dragon Ball Z Abridged is finished and amazing. The first season is a bit weak when compared to SAO Abridged but that was back in the very early years of abridging. LittleKuriboh's Naruto Abridged Spoof Series and movies are an amazing watch, too.
8:52 The newspaper's saying that the peace talks Heathcliff went to, and that he was trying to keep Kirito from going to, ended up breaking down and now he's being held captive by the King of Ashes.
Yui is an AI which means she can learn and feel emotion just like a regular human being. Siri is known as an AI but a "Dumb AI" Since it is programed to respond to certain answers, while Yui is a "Smart AI" Which you can definitely consider her a person 😭
SAO Alicitization Spoilers
Apparently you didn't get it back then, but Asuna was only pretending to cry at 10:00 (you can even hear it in her voice and see Kirito rolling his eyes). At that time she just wanted to get rid of her, and so did Kirito (which is cruel but we get used to it in this abridged serie). They were in competition to see who will admit it first so she/he can blame him/her
Basically yui is a AI (code) within the game, kirito just grab that specific code and saved it to his console, so later he can extract that code in a different game.
You are thinking of Yuuki, she was the gamer on life support. I think she shows up in season 3 of the anime.
This episode is honestly a contender for the best abridged episode of anything ever in my book
Basically the idea in the original SAO is that Yui is the first (or at least one of the first) AI’s to gain sentience and a roughly human level intelligence. In a philosophical sense, Yui is a ”real person”, but not a human mind you, as the words ”person” and ”human” aren’t perfectly synonomous. For a legal example, corporations and some protected forests or rivers are considered ”legal persons” so that others can sue on their behalf.
As Yui’s job is quite literally to understand emotions, she’s adept at understanding them especially well, hence why she seems so human compared to AI’s we see in other media.
Asuna's real name is Asuna... this is pretty much her first MMO (maybe her first RPG)... not sure if she couldn't come up with something else or she thought it was some sort of security question thing when she put in her name cuz I can't remember. Rosaline (actually Rosalia) was the woman that was trying to screw over Silica that said 'This is the deepest you'll ever be in a woman'.
Edit: Depends on your definition of person... is she human? Fk no. But a person? Yeah, I'd call her a person.
This episode kicks the phrase
“It’s a complicated relationship” to a whole new meaning
I especially like how, when Kirito corrects her with "You mean 'you and I'", he's actually wrong.
In the sentence "You and me alone in the blah blah blah", you and me is correct.
The easy way to remember is "would the sentence be grammatically correct if it was just you?"
Like "Me in the woods alone" versus "I in the woods alone". Pretty obvious which one is correct, yeah?
"THE WRATH OF A PISSED-OFF NERD WITH ADMIN PRIVILEGES!!!!!"
Lmao the line is delievered so freaking well. But since you haven't seen the show in a long while, I'll say this, Kirito just hacked into the admin he didn't actually have admin privileges but the nerd part was true. In fact, through the series Kirito consistently is rather smart with technology. He even majors in it in college.
Yes, she's an AI. Yes, she's a person. Don't let our robot overlords hear you say otherwise.
I'm glad you liked this episode as much as I do! It's my favorite! Yui is just as insane as her parents, and I love it!
Its my favourite episode too. I wish they did more of that left brain, right brain thing.
Can injust say heathcliffs VA sounds, in a word, perfect
This episode is pure gold. Their dysfunctional relationship is just perfect.
This is a really good episode, glad you liked it!
18:50 not sure if you've seen it, but that's basically the second plot of Dot Hack. "Old man puts Grand Daughters mind into the game in hopes to give her Eternal life and countless friends gone wrong" (Not to be confused with the main protagonist who got separated from their body by other means)
Pretty sure Yui was just an AI Program designed by What's his name to do as it says, her being a small child was to instill trust and help calm players, but like the rest of his programs they're a bit off. Also, it's why Yui has Media References as her replies in the Abridged series.
Your reaction to the street corner remark was priceless.
I had flashbacks to the different english subtitles (i think they were the canadian ones) that had extra jokes and references, it made it funnier to watch once i grew tired after watching the abridge series 7 times back to back. It really is refreshing,
I think that was Dragon Ball Z Abridged. Or is it both series?
i just started watching dbz abridged (video coming out tmrw :0) and yea they have Canadian subtitles with extra fun jokes. I had to turn it off and put the regular subtitles when reacting to it as it was distracting, but it was fun to read:)
Yui is an ai, not a real person, but she's developed as a smart ai that developed consciousness, and self-awaraness, and something like feelings, essentially she's a digital person, a person is much better a description than a robot, but she is between the two
This is the only thing that'll ever have me shed tears, I dunno what it is but I can feel empty or sad but when Yui disappears I can be smiling and that one scene will always have me crying my eyes out. Nothing else I swear
I like how Yui’s story is basically the same except for two details: 1, the traits of Asuna and Kirito that intrigued her, and one more thing that will be revealed in the ALO arc lol
I’m assuming that’s “at least I still have a face”?
Yeahh Yui is an AI which data has been saved as an item and then later on she will be "revived" as an AI which will normally think and act like their daughter
AI in SAO are basically human in how advanced they are. In fact season 3 and the following are all about the fact that they have created AI that are just humans without a physical body.
So here's one thing that makes Fluffers idea even more evil.
Setting fire to a town
When you can't die in a safe zone
OH, YOU’RE RIGHT
Fun fact: Yui is a play on UI (user interface) which is how users interact with a system.
Yui, is in an artificial intelligence. Both in anime and abridged.
Yes, they got married in both versions.
SAO abridged is still ongoing - currently 5 episodes into season 2. Releases are a bit slower but quality over quantity has been their thing from the beginning.
It's power of inner monologues.
There are 16 episodes currently, they are still going. It just takes several months per episode. Yui is an AI, she can't exist outside in the real world without a physical body.
If it hasn't been suggested yet- 👀 Give "How to be an Adventurer & How to be a Mage" or Dan machi abridged a good look. They are also on-going. 💘
Those are pretty good. Yaroshien does some good work on those abridged series.
@@cain0308 Yeah he does 👍
Based on another fake video game story, I can definitely say that things can be hard for AI players. (Not the same as NPCs.) Even if they weren't trapped in the game like in SAO, they don't exactly have a real life to return to. The game pretty much _is_ their "real life," and it would be incredibly difficult if not impossible for them to see the world beyond the game.

I love the like, two frames, of Sasha, aka freckles, flipping the table
Yui was an A.I that gained sentience during the events of S.A.O. In the original story she saw Kirito and Asuna as two characters that still hadn’t given up despite all the odds against them and broke out of the area she was locked into hence her amnesia
If this isn't the most realistic depiction of what it would be like if two 16 year olds get married
You may be thinking of Yuuki , she's a character Asuna meets that's the leader of Sleeping Knights guild in the Mother's Rosario arc of season 2 after the Alfheim arc and Excalibur arc .
The marriage is canon , and Yui is by and large unchanged apart from her lethal wit , seriously, I was like stop already , she's already dead Yui !!!!
I'll tell you bit of history on abridging on TH-cam, back in the early days of TH-cam in 2000s abridging started with I believe Yu-Gi-Oh TAS , meant to be light hearted jabs at the awful localization and basically censoring of Japanese anime ,in about 3- 7 minutes of screentime.
It grew from there with particularly with DBZA , who went from rapid fire jokes a minute and obscure references to full-blown scripts , that grew ever greater in length , to the point that it has ceased in someways from being simple parody to comedic fandubs .
What they and countless other people like Something Witty do now is kinda like the anime called Ghost stories did back in the day , but without the official blessings of the respective studios .
I know this is a year & change late, but the child who was gonna die IRL was at the distant end of SAO proper S2
Yui is an A.I. but that doesn't mean she's supposed to be an emotionless robot or anything like that. The fact that she's an artificial intelligence means she's not a real person, but is capable of real person thoughts and emotions.
the story of Yui was a way for Kawahara to insert the idea of AI developing intelligence and sentience so he could work that in later in the series and tbh he did a decent job.
5:16 The first thing that came into my mind when she said that was Klein on a religious atire lmao
This is why I love abridged more than the series itself. Its full of comedy but it makes so much more sense then the base anime. XD
In the novel, they married after bought the wooden house after a "Alice in Wonderland" quest
YUI was an AI made to ensure the players of SAO were mentally healthy, but on the day of the games official launch Akihiko Kayaba ensured that she would be unable to do that. Probably cause he didn't want her interfering in his game. I don't think he made the game all by himself, so it's likely that she wasn't ever meant to actually do what she was designed to do, just something other devs or maybe investors wanted made. But since he was already planning on trapping everyone in the game and making sure they died in real life if they died in the game, he planned to cut her off from the beginning.
You’re thinking of Yuuki from season two. The girl who’s dying of AIDS irl with purple hair who teaches Asuna her 11 hit original sword skill.
Glad you decided to go with subs again. They're nice for people like me that have attention issues lol
She is an AI they don't bring her back until second half of first season when kirito starts playing alfhiem online
Literally one of the best episode beginnings
10:24 See, the "danger" of subtitles is one may lose some small details... like Kirito rolling his eyes waiting for Asuna to finish ahahahah
Gotta say, you remind me somehow of a girl I matched on a dating site.
It has JUST hit me like the first time I expirienced the inner dialouge the first time :D
I love how you literally say “this is the best episode yet” like every episode you watch 😂😂
Wait, I did? Lolol
I still stand by episode 10 being my favorite though
Sao is currently still being worked on but they take a long time to release them
Really enjoying this reaction series!
A couple things I didn't see in the comments: the left/right brain thing is preserved without the subtitles if you're listening in stereo, since the voices come out of the respective sides.
And just because Yui is an AI doesn't mean she's not a person.
This is my favorite episode. It is both the absolutely funniest and yet equally heartbreaking. I feel episode eleven is just as good, but it drags just a little.
this one's my fave episode too!!!
Apparently if you listen to the episode with headphones the LB/RB come from different sides.
Yes this episode makes me laugh every time
Yui is an AI and he saved her data to his nervegear, I think the character you're thinking of in later season though is Zekien she's a real person and fits the thing you were describing without spoiling anything.
Your mannerisms are too cute stahp 🤣
Yui is an AI she's also a real person one is not mutually exclusive to the other.
Kirito saved a copy of Yui's AI as an in-game item
You might want to consider shrinking the size of the subtitles slightly. As you saw, they can get pretty stacked up and cover basically half of the entire video.
yui is indeed an AI
So they start doing alot more with ai stuff. She is not a real person but she is a artificial conscious. This does play a role in the most recent sword art. But she does make an appearance later on for sure!
Thx for the subtitles
Log horizon abridged is great. Check it out!
I think you're confusing Yui with Yuuki from the Mother's Rosario arc in SAO2, the little girl with a terminal illness who had a unique sword skill that she would pass down to whoever could beat her and got super close to Asuna.
You got to season 2?
But season 3 Alicization and Season 4 War of under world are what make SAO worth watching
Edit: Especially if you think that could be us 🤔
You should watch teamfourstar final fantasy 7 machinabridge.
For some reason, I keep thinking you look kind of like Marzia(pewdiepie's wife) but with brown hair and glasses.
Woww. I don’t personally think I do. But a hugeee compliment regardless:)
@@Animelon I wish I could pull off such a look. 😊
Oh yeah, you messed it up, but only a bit. The real girl who's sick comes later. By that point Kirito is bringing Yui into the real world thanks to the school robotics team. (Unless I messed that up too)
😂
They are married
idk if someone said it already it's been 2 years so yeah, i think you are confusing Suguha with Yui, one is the cousin of Kirito and the other one is the AI
Pls react alucard abrige series
Careful if you do dbz abridged, it gets a ton of copyright reports
"Okay, is she a real person or is she not a real person?" Excuse me‽ Um, yes, Yui is a real person (or as real as any fictional character can be)! That fact that she's an artificial intelligence doesn't change that in the slightest. Person ≠ Human
Your now wrong but different person
Artificial intelligence and robots aren't the same thing. You could argue that human consciousness is nothing more than a collection of biological data networks aka artificial intelligence. In fact computer engineers are currently working on simulating human consciousness as we speak. To me, life is life, especially if they have feelings. It doesn't matter if they're a "robot."
