It's a common believe in Japan that objects who have been used a lot and for many years, can come alive! there is a couple of fairy tales about these beings, it's very interesting!
With respect to the surprise over Yura being a hair comb demon, basically this world on the other side of the well is like an alternate history version of Japan of the 1500s Sengoku jidai (Warring States period) analogous to the European medieval period, but rife and overrun with demons of all kinds. Many are based on historical Japanese mythology and folkloric creatures. They're also called youkai in the Japanese version and are kind of different from the popular Western conception of demons in the sense of devil-esque horned demons, demons from hell, etc. which are all usually malevolent. These can be malevolent and plenty are, but also benign or neutral; although many still have a wild and chaotic nature like intelligent wild animals although even more removed as a separate existence from humans. Many are animal demons, like the centipede demon in the first episode (Mistress Centipede), the crow demon in the second (the corpse crow), or Inuyasha, who is a dog half-demon (the prefix "Inu" means "dog" in Japanese). But there can be demons of virtually anything - plants, fungi, inanimate objects, and even exclusively purely humanoid ones. In reference to Kagome's family being unfazed, part of it I believe is honestly just for story convenience to make things go smoothly so it's partially at least just general anime/cartoon/TV series logic. But also, something to keep in mind is that Kagome's house is part of a large Shinto shrine complex. The Higurashi family are shrine-keepers, the grandfather is a priest knowledgeable about different religious relics, ritual items, and cultural/historical artifacts, so the possibility of some of this stuff existing or being real isn't entirely alien to them.
Thank you for saying that about them being shrine keepers. They go back generations with everything getting passed down (except for strong spiritual power outside of Kagome/kikyo, apparently) orally so yep
17:27 the people in the house (kagome’s family) because their ancestors job was to look after the bone eaters well and so they already believed this type of demon and priestess stuff existed so it wasn’t as suprising
21:06 kagome and kikyo’s sister (no idea how to spell her name) can see the hair not because they are women, but because they are priestesses and have the power to see and sense certain things that others can’t.
3:40 well grandpa wouldnt care much (But there we go- she just said only she can see it 4:00 hater or banter, he's offering protecting heh 5:40 1x1 12:20 looks like he saw that though Calling her Kagome ~ (THE VOICE BREAK ON THAT "LEAVE ME ALONE") 15:20 heh 17:20 they're also primed for it 21:08 the woman next to Kaede (the mother) didn't see anything. Neither did Kagome's mom 1x1
Inuyasha is actually much much much older than Kikyo when they first met. Demons live longer and age slower than half-demons, and half-demons live longer and age slower than human.
Sir, please just try to enjoy the show and don't read into it too much. Don't try to make sense of everything in term of science or real life because it's a fictional show. Just take what they give you and try to make sense of it within the show only, don't try to explain it using real life's common sense because it won't make sense xD I'm looking forward to seeing you journey though this whole series. It's a legendary show back in the day.

Inuyasha is a dog demon but I can kinda see why it's easy to mistake for cat due to the ear shape ^^;
16:36 inuyasha is 65 years old. When kikyo died, he was 15.

Yess i like your inuyasha reaction
I've legitimately seen people complain about the nudity and other adult themes in this show, then they find out it was written by a woman.
