NIce review Matt, would have liked a couple of close ups of some of the issues inserted but I get the point.

The Calumet head shown here is direct copy of the newer and cheaper mid range Manfrotto 029 mk2 (not the ancient mk1 seen in the video) so its not directly comparable to the 229 which is Manfrotto's top of the range head.

I proudly use the #029 for art photography, is the 229 different in any way? it's not a videohead is it

I have had my two 029 for 25 years now , I would have never guessed you broke your Nikon on one of these , mines be left in rain snow I even used it in a river for some work . No stick with manfrotto . I did just get a new Hex for one of mine as the rubber had worn out .
Great comparison as you always think all is it worth the extra and as you said Matt it’s the Rolls Royce of tripods 👍

The old 029 has been a great workhorse for years, you can imagine the use its taken to actually wear the metal down!
When I ordered the cheaper one I thought Id really beaten the system, but as soon as I opened the box the difference in quality from the Manfrotto was so obvious

I got a Gitzo from a store that was selling out, so the price made it impossible to ignore….it works fine for me….not too fancy but has 3axis, and I’m no pro so it will never wear out.

I have a couple of Gitzo bits, they are beautiful quality, you'd have to try hard to wear those out!
