@@Jimswholiestofcoleus thanks for your reply Jim. .yes we'll get over this and come back stronger than ever. ...the garden is our sanctuary at the moment and they've forcast some glorious weather leading up to easter so time to get all those jobs done....take care mate and stay safe....
Your coleus are beautiful! Mine are doing great as well! The weather in the PNW however has been 10 degrees below normal for weeks and I haven’t been able to plant much outside. No visiting the nurseries either :( we are just staying home. Amazon to the rescue! Ive planted 8 new hydrangeas and completely started some of my flower gardens over again. Keeps me plenty busy! My husband is building me an awesome 8 X 10 greenhouse with a little patio out front. He’s been keeping very busy. Hope you and your family and friends are staying healthy and well. I love seeing your updates so keep them coming Jim!
Hi Trish!! Thank you!!! Hang in there!! Sounds like you and the Hubby are keeping busy too!!! Until the Hot Humid weather and long days sun arrive the Coleus will be slower growing.....but building a Greenhouse will create the ideal Ecosystem that will create those Summer conditions!! Your Coleus will soon thrive !!! I'm hopeful to move mine outdoors to the Greenhouse I built ...waiting on 50°+ sustained overnight temps!!
not quite where you are yet, Jim but I have a lot of successful germinations with my first cloeus seeds. Used the jiffy pots. I also have a few strains of Tomatoes from Rutgers (one is a brand new grape bi-color), scallions, 8ball squash, chives, parseley, long eggplants, and hot and sweet peppers,... they're all in one of the 72 pod things... almost ready to tranfer. Only 2 pods don't have a germination. Being stuck in a brand new place isn't so bad, because there's so much to get done. Put in a new toilet. Fixed the ice maker. Did some deep cleaning and vacuuming. Have drinks everyday with my wife. Playing backgammon online with my club since we can't meet. Looking forward to good weather to be able to wash and wax my car in my own driveway. You miss a lot in apartment life. Happy to be stuck (for the time being).
Hey Joe!! GREAT to hear from you and that you and your wife are well!!! Once the real warm weather arrives you'll see your Coleus and Veggie plants speed up!! Sounds like you have quite a nice collection... and with a new place PLENTY TO DO!! Perfect timing if theres a silver lining to this terrible ordeal thrust upon our Country and the World. Please keep busy and stay safe!! Keep me posted on the Plants!! Stay Well Joe!!!
Thanks for all the puppy time! I finally have little coleus ears on my seed starting tray. I’ve also started trimming my over wintered coleus. Keep safe.
I'm staying at home, I'm finishing up a quilt, starting vegetable seeds, caring for the coleus I started. I made myself a list I call my personal 30 day challenge. The list has 30 things on it that I want to get done around the house each day, some are bigger some are smaller.
Kathy that's the spirit!!! An Excellent example too!! We all have little jobs around the house that have been on the back burner..... One thing We want to do is clean and disinfect all of the interior doors with Mr .Clean.. ... My son wants to paint his room. We already bought the paint prior to this Covid Madness. Stay safe. Keep clear of rumors from fake media outlets, emailers scammers especially on Facebook and Instagram trying to create panic, hopelessness and misinformation. I get all sorts of phony BS stuff shared by friends who are passing stuff that was sent to them .....False stuff from a so called Doctor claiming theres no cure possible or that Martial Law a d a full Country closure is imminent... Its sad....I delete the stuff and just listen to my State & Local Government communications and the Daily White House Covid Task force briefing. Anyway stay well and busy!!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus Yes Jim, I have to play games with myself to keep that spirit up, but its well worth it! There are a lot of bad things happening and I am guilty of getting overloaded in the bad news. I have to strike a balance by getting back to a normal life, even if its just at home. Its worrisome, its angering, its frustrating but there are good things happening.... Pollution has gone done, air quality is better, littering has gone down, our creeks, streams, rivers and oceans are getting a break, crime rate is down, animals are coming out, earth is quieter.. its amazing what happens when you take man (and woman) out of the equation. Hi Peggy....Looks like I may not have a Farmers market this year :( But we shall see. I have a General price range of about $2 for a single Coleus in its 3" nursery pot....then prices go up..... Decorative pots are about $6-$8 like the colored wavy plastic pots with 2 Coleus.... Larger potted Coleus like Triple Window box planter about $10..... 8" Hanging Baskets $12.... and I have made up larger multi Coleus which I raise and prune over the course of a few months....between $25-$30
But only at my Farmers Market...I do not mail or ship plants....only Coleus Seeds on request for about $10 which includes a large # of at least 3-4 varieties.
Hi Luma...I've never propagated from a single leaf...just rooting from single stem or by seed harvest. Thank you for your comment!! I hope you SUBSCRIBE and check out my other Coleus videos. I cover everything Coleus!! Seed to Fall Stalk!!!
Hi Claire.m.1993 I do sell seeds on request and have shipped to the UK, Algeria, India etc. I have different very colorful variations of Kong, Watermelon, Jitters, Defiance and some of the Darker Wizard varieties. I can send you either an unlabeled mixture of well over 200 seeds for $10 or I can separate them into labeled zip locks by types for $12 both includes packing them and shipping. I only accept Payment thru my PayPal account at www.chewchjz@yahoo.com I have my Coleus growing from the UK throughout New Zealand and Alaska!! Lol Let me know if your interested...or if any particular Coleus from my video strikes your fancy!!!
Oh Claire....In my excitement for your enthusiasm and interest I failed to mention that I will not ship anything until AFTER the Pandemic restriction PARTICULARLY seeing I'm in NJ which is the current Hot spot. Also as far as hydribidizing I'm not an active hybridizer....aside from what naturally occurs when I plant multiple varieties of Coleus next to each other and they get cross pollinated by butterflies and insects!! I really Thank your comments and SUBSCRIBING !!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus hey Jim sorry for the late reply thanks for getting back to me :) yeah when all this madness is over id love the 12 quid option please :) you can't get many varieties over in the UK for some reason 👎
Hey Jim... I have a Coleus seedling with 3 cotlyhedons and three initial leaves. Is this common? Any clue if it will continue to make sets of three as it grows or will it revert to the typical sets of two? Is this something a breeder might want?
WOW! So when your seed first germinated and the cotties opened did three appear right off the bat or did the third show up afterwards?? The fact that You're getting Three & Three.... it's a genetic mutation . It actually happens more commonly in some Vegetable plants....I DON'T believe its something so rare in Coleus that breeders try to recreate it or that the Coleus plant, its Color or any other distinguishable trait....It may give you a "branchier" fuller shorter Coleus however which is Not a bad thing!!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus yep, 3 cotlyhedons from the get go. I started a full pack of seed from a big box store in an open 10x20 tray(no dividers). Im planning to edge all my beds in coleus this year. For fun, I'll grow the mutant as a potted plant and see what it turns into. We'll see if I can make a beast out of it. Im very familiar with the trimming techniques you use from other plants im experienced with that respond the same way. I may have a new addiction going here. Lol.
