  • New series highlighting the best Muay Thai sweep artists in history.
    The Muay Thai sweep is one of the most beautiful aspects of the sport. The execution of a sweep takes excellent timing, control and grace, and the end product is often a real crowd-pleaser.
    Normally, the best sweep artists are muay femeu fighters (technical fighters) who have precise timing and accuracy and are experts in off-balancing their opponents. Muay khao (knee fighters) are also usually proficient in sweeping due to regularly engaging in close quarter battle and being masters in the clinch.
    Volume one of this series features the following sweep artists:
    Burklerk Pinsinchai
    Dany Bill
    Pakorn PK Saenchai
    Thaksinlek Kiatniwat
    Superbank Sornpichai

    Out of the five fighters featured in this video, I've only ever had the pleasure of training with one of them - Superbank.
    I clinched with him at FA Group gym in Bangkok for about six months and I can vouch for his expertise in this area. The guy is incredible. I mean, he can do this stuff to a man of any size...
    I was at the gym with a few other big foreigners (around 80kg) and we all had a decent amount of fight experience and he just threw us around like rag dolls. Literally, you'd find yourself on your back and you didn't even know what he did, he was that quick. Eventually you'd be reluctant to throw a knee or even touch him because you knew that whatever you did, he would find a way to sweep your feet from under you. Either that, or he would clamp onto you like a vice and you couldn't move him.
    Oh, and he pretty much always got the better of a much bigger Petchboonchu, too...
    Superbank really is a true king of the sweep...
    Here are a few more incredible sweep arists;

      That's so fcking awesome. I would really love to train Muay Thai. I currently do MMA as a hobby. I do BJJ more seriously. It feels safer and less scary. I was awestruck by the way the first blackbelt I encountered would easily defeat me. He would crawl all over my body and let me know he had a choke or a joint lock and let it go and let me try to defend or learn. He was also a tiny guy. I haven't really felt the same amazement since that day.

Only thing the US is good for us starting wars they can’t finish. And join wars when it’s nearly over and claim victory as if they done the hard work....like WW2, coming in at the last moment and proclaiming to the world hoe America helped win the war. LOL. I like "the sweepers" a lot because of what you've said: the TECHNICAL aspects of it. Must have an excellent READING capabilities here, and total AWARENESS, sharp EYES, quick BRAINS, excellent TIMING, which requires a lot of TRAINING to be able to be RELAXED in fights. Relaxation is key in mastering any technique. Furthermore I like to be able to sweep because the sweep is relatively less dangerous and painfull for your own body (shins for example) when compared to a roundhouse kick or even a teep. You sweep with the ball or the side of your foot, against the CALVES of your opponent, which is a SOFT part of his/her body. In KARATE we also have the backward sweep which is pretty cool: th-cam.com/video/Mu34WgizBfc/w-d-xo.html at 08:25 further. In this movie (KARATE) there are some more other sweeping techniques which are cool too: th-cam.com/video/FQi3zbefLnc/w-d-xo.html

    • @muaythaischolar
      @muaythaischolar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends what other techniques land in the fight. Strikes which cause pain/damage to an opponent score more highly than sweeps. However, in the absence of damaging strikes, or if the fight is even in terms of damaging strikes, then sweeps can tip the balance in a fight.
      A fighter like Superbank is able to win a fight purely by sweeping his opponent as he spends the entire fight evading the strikes of his opponent. In that case, all of the sweeps add up and he has not taken any damage.

    ...Love the Sweeps and takedowns in Muay Thai..(!!!)..So simple, and Direct, and SO Effective!!..... In the MMA arena, for example, the standup grappling of Muay Thai has proven to more than hold it's own against the likes of judo, and greco-roman wrestling, sambo etc....Any other system.... Muay Thai has Proven to Be more effective, more dynamic, and spectacular than Any other form of standup grappling in the entire World, ( not to mention straight up striking effectiveness, in and of itself..).....It speaks for itself, as standup fighters are, more and more, beginning to take precedence in MMA....but, in my opinion, straight up traditional Muay Thai matches, under full Thai rules, are still the best of all to watch....

    Saenchai is the undisputed king of sweeps, and he was excluded from this list... 🤔

      ChucksterOLove Saenchai only looks good when he fights new school westerners. He fought actual competition in his prime and earlier years, which he many times lost. You cannot call him the king of anything if he lost to a 17 year old in his prime
