I was at a dead end job when covid started and decided to try to become a actuary. This video convinced me to buy an Actex manual and helped organize my approach. Today, I passed exam P. Thanks Dude!
@@melaniebrown1443 I can't recall hours per day but I overdid it in the end. I rescanned the book several times because it could get crazy. I ended up taking a total of 18 practice tests. I'm curious to see if they have made the test easier over the years. I passed FM this last Saturday using the Analystprep youtube channel playlist and a little bit of the actex.
Yesterday I sat for Exam P and passed. I have been studying on and off for 4 years due to life circumstances, and finally passed. I owe a great deal of it to some of the videos you made. Thank you so much for being a great resource!
I just want to say, I am just starting on my journey, but I am incredibly grateful that you just do this all for the sake of helping other aspiring actuaries.
I watch this video about once every week as motivation to keep on studying. Love your attitude man, good luck with your internship and everything else that comes along the way
Dude, you are the man for making these vids. I am in my last semester of undergrad (math major/bio minor) and I have been studying for exam P since January. I planned to take it in May, but school has taken more time than I thought it would (senior seminar research project on random walk models is killing me) and I am thinking about waiting until July. I'm just not able to dedicate the time that I believe I need. I have been using coaching actuaries curriculum including adapt and taking quizzes with level 2-8 difficulties to build a base for taking full exams. The level 2-5 is not bad at all and some of level 6 to 6.75, (yes they literally rate them to two decimal places, lol) stuff is relatively intuitive, but the freaking level 7-8 is impossible. I share your same sentiments in that the calculus based problems are a breeze, but the counting probability and some of the general probability is really difficult to see how to formulate to solve.
I'm glad you find the videos helpful! Smart of you to wait until you can really dedicate the proper amount of time. Get comfortable with level 6-7 on adapt and I think you will be fine for the exam. Good Luck with your studies!
It's great to find your channel! I just passed FM, and gonna take the P test in September. Kinda following your steps. Hope you will keep posting videos, cheers!
Just past my exam today, and I want to thank you for the content and sharing what you did to pass. I followed most of what you did and watched your videos on hard problems. Thank you again
Thank you for sharing your exam experience. The videos are great, however if I could make one critique, that would be to improve the audio quality. I find myself having to increase the volume to the max on all of the videos. Thanks!
Well done mate. I'm taking mine in a month. Did Actex (out of date... from 2000, the syllabus was somewhat different then) then I moved on to Stewart Hasset and then the Finan guide (which I thought was great, although looking back some content was useless unless for a quick conceptual recap) then I got two months of ADAPT, which I'm loving. However, I am worried that the repeated questions to which I already know the answers are just boosting my confidence higher than my actual final score. Anyway I still have 4 weeks. I'm going to do the TIA exams and get my earned level to 10 hopefully (I'm going up a point a week for the past three weeks) Thanks for the videos!
Alexander Elliott take practice exams in adapt as frequent as possible. As long as you’re able to pass consistently at a level of 6 or above you will pass. Good luck!!
I passed FM 2 days ago and just wanted to know what materials I should use when I go for P. I passed FM using only the AMS manual and SOA practices questions btw
Great videos man. How do you think the actual exam compared to the SOA released problems? I’m an ADAPT level 7, but I find the SOA questions much more difficult than ADAPT ones.
Where do I get an exam P syllabus? New to this but considering a sort of last minute prep for an exam sometime next month. Background is in graduate physics so I've done harder math than this but it's very different.
I recently passed P in the July sitting. Super happy to pass because I put so much time into it and used a lot of the advice you gave in preparation for P. I wanted to thank you for providing detailed videos on many important concepts. It helped a ton! Also very motivational seeing you pursue an Actuary career given your situation and congrats on your internship. I am currently going in my third year of my math degree and hope I can land an internship. Is there anything you wish you had done before your internship to be more prepared?
Jacob Montemayor first off congrats and I'm glad you found the videos helpful!! I only wish I had taken more statistics and programming classes, that would have made my transition easier.
Is adapt just sets of problems or is there some sort of instruction part of it as well?? I have been using the ASM manual, but I am contemplating purchasing adapt too. The ASM manual was amazing for FM, but for some reason I cant stand it for Probability.
Holly Allen there is an instruction portion too. Check out there website they have several options. I thought it was great for exam p. Btw, how did you feel the difficulty was in ASM for FM compared to the exam?
Thanks!! Overall I think the ASM problems were more difficult than the actual exam. If I remember right, there were a couple practice exams that they explicitly said were designed to be a little easier. In my opinion, the exam was close to the same difficulty level as these exams rather than a majority of the problems in the manual
congrats dude!!! awsome video. i'll be sitting in Exam P in july. i hope i'll be prepared well before exam. great videos👍👍👍 keep it up. make more videos.
Good job man. I'm going for it too, since halfways through my degree in international relations I discovered a love of mathematics. I'm not sure if having a BA degree would be a problem provided I pass P/FM, but I sort of just want to do it anyway.

Hey, I'm taking Exam P on Saturday. I've been studying since late October. So I've got to the point where I have seen basically every exam question out there whether it's from Adapt, TIA free exams, and SOA. However; I can't say I've been getting high 20s on the exams. Good luck, I hope you pass!

Thank you for your reply, and I was wondering if there are lots of different between 2009 version and 2016/2017 version? Or it's same but in questions??
Ali Mir-Moghtadaee I would there isn't much of a difference. You only need to make sure that you follow the syllabus corresponding to your exam date. Older study manuals may have more or less content than what is actually tested on.

Congrats on passing! Im taking exam P in September and started using the ASM Manual. One thing i noticed was that the practice questions become extremely difficult after the first 5 questions in each lesson. Will the exam questions be as difficult as the practice questions like from 15-20? or it'll be around the same difficulty as questions 1-5?

John Decousta keep taking practice exams! Take one everyday up until the day before your exam. Don't take any exams the day before just review and relax. Make sure your calculators are charged
I am studying for exam p using the book "probability for risk management" and using the SOA's previous questions with solutions. I am taking the exam in September.
You are expected to "memorize" everything but I prefer to gain understanding of each concept, and remember it that way. You are only given a Z-Table for the normal distribution. You can bring in at most 2 calculators but nothing else goes with you to take the test.
Mancinelli's Math Lab Thanks for such a quick reply... One Quick question: for the beta distribution we are mostly concerned with the exponential distribution part right.
I just passed exam P yesterday. I want to say thank you your video solutions to numerous SOA Sample Problems. I wanna just say I felt exactly like you did in the exam. I absolutely breezed through it, and had about an hour and 15 minutes left after my first run. I had only skipped like 4 questions the first time through. I would be shocked if I didn’t score a 9 or 10. I think you do yourself a HUGE disservice if you don’t over-prepare for these exams to be honest with you.
Just passed exam p today! My experience was similar to yours: I over prepared and had almost an hour left when I got to the last question. Also, I watched every single one of your exam p videos. They were super helpful. What you do is awesome!
Having done the exam, would you say that the general probability questions were similar in difficulty to the ones in the questions (from SOA/Actex/TIA/ADAPT) you have practiced

John Decousta keep taking practice exams! Take one everyday up until the day before your exam. Don't take any exams the day before just review and relax. Make sure your calculators are charged
Thank you
What is ADAPT and how do you know what level are you know?
ADAPT is a practice part of coachingactuaries.com
I am studying for exam p using the book "probability for risk management" and using the SOA's previous questions with solutions. I am taking the exam in September.
Good luck in September!
is actex 2012 edition good to practice with?
bob dole I'm sure it's fine to use an older version just make sure you follow the topics according to the most recent syllabus
Hey... do we get to take in any formula sheets... are they provided or are we expected to memorize them
You are expected to "memorize" everything but I prefer to gain understanding of each concept, and remember it that way.
Utkarsh Uprety yes, only the exponential distribution. Beta, in general, is not on the exam.
Congrats..
Please can I get a copy of the notes u prepared yourself on exam p?
Daddy Joe yes I'll take some pictures and post them.. or maybe a video
I think you do yourself a HUGE disservice if you don’t over-prepare for these exams to be honest with you.
whats your score
Hey! I saw you on a tutoring website in my area
alex moore you must be in Seattle?? Yea I'm tutoring on the side for extra cash :D
In Bellevue, but yeah. I saw your image online when looking for information about the exams. I'm taking P in September and might have to reach out!
a m message me on here first, if you do! Good luck in your studies and on your exam!
What was your score?
9
@@mancinellismathlab7451 your video performing a trend analysis on your performance is entertaining lol

how old are you?
Passed today!
congratulations!
I have this test in three days! Hope I pass it!
I passed!!!
Are you taking exam FM next heheheh
CrusH yes, on April 14th. What is funny?
Just passed exam p today! My experience was similar to yours: I over prepared and had almost an hour left when I got to the last question.
Also, I watched every single one of your exam p videos. They were super helpful. What you do is awesome!
Taking Exam P tomorrow and feel slightly under prepared. Hopefully I'm wrong.
@@mattbernickus2892 how was the exam?
@@mn412 I didn't feel over prepared but adequately prepared, I passed though.
@@mattbernickus2892 that’s great! Congratulations!
Very helpful thank you!!
Having done the exam, would you say that the general probability questions were similar in difficulty to the ones in the questions (from SOA/Actex/TIA/ADAPT) you have practiced
I thought the Actex Manual GP questions were the toughest and SOA/TIA/ADAPT(EL 6-7) were fair game for an exam
Love the reality
Thank you so much for this
Nutella you also watch these? haha thought you was team Michelle only
George Mbirikira I'm a #aspiringactuary so of course I have to watch all the actuary channels but don't get me wrong Michelle is still #1
