I always learn a nugget. I grow thyme too in my garden. I always wondered if I was using it right when I put it in my recipe. I dry and do exactly what you did. Just flake some off right into the dish. Thanks for showing me how you do it!
I always Cook the potatoslices in a little water , just give them a quick boil, before I add them to a fire proof dish and add cream, onions and garlic etc and cheese, we add cheese too .
I love that little smile you make after you always take a bite of your cooking. It's so cute. Makes me want to make everything that makes you smile and share it with the world. :)
I enjoyed your scalloped potatoes video, even though I've been making them like this for 50 years. I loved your addition of thyme, plus your wooden spatula. Do you have a favorite supplier for wooden utensils? a fellow Washingtonian
FYI,,,,,,,I use a product called Ozonol for burns , bites , all boo boos really . It takes away the pain almost immediately . It heals from the inside out , not forming a scab which will leave a scar . It comes in a blue and white tube that I get at the drug store or order online....blue tube only , not the green one . If we go on a trip it is the second thing I pack after my own pillow ..... love watching your videos ,,, keep well and God bless your little family !
I love your rustic root food cellar. I love being able to reach for my canned veggies and make dinner. I have shied away from iron cast pans doe to their heaviness. At 67 years old they are great to cook in but too heavy to pick up for my liking.
Omgoodness wish I had seen this yesterday.made cheesy potatoes for the family for a Christmas side dish. I got the recipe audibly from a family member, but she didn’t tell me to put milk in it just sour cream. They were awful. What a bummer but these look way better than cheesy potatoes. Thank you for showing every step of the process Merry Christmas and God Bless Us All ❤
Lovely cellar and tasty looking potatoes! We have a a root cellar in the making but it stays a bit hot in late summer, do you use anything to cool it? We were looking into Coolbot to modify a normal AC unit to keep it cool in July and August when many of the onions and potatoes are being stored
Looks fantastic! I have never made scalloped potatoes, but I’m going to now. 😊 I made potato soup with my garden vegetables yesterday. I don’t have a cellar so mine are canned and frozen, but my blood, sweat, and tears! 😊
Hi! Merry Christmas to you and yours! I have a question about using your coffee grinder for pepper….brilliant. My question is how do you do an initial inspection of the grinder to make sure it safe with no rust etc.? I was thinking of grinding something like kosher sat to see what come out. Any suggestions?
When you showed the root cellar I busted out laughing. Grew up country and that's exactly how they were, sometimes even more cruder. You got the real deal, doesn't matter if it's pretty as long as it works, though it looks spectacular to me.
Mmm. I love your root cellar. It reminds me of Bilbo Baggin's pantry (probably spoken more about in 'The Hobbit' than in 'Lord of the Rings'. I hope your hand is feeling much better now. 🙏
Hey Shaye, your Root Cellar is looking abundant🌟. You have done so much since you first started. It looks lovely and Yummy🎉. Thank you for the tour! Your Scalloped Potatoes look delicious👍. In our house if you found the Bay leaf you had to do the dishes HEHE your tail of it sounds much better🤗. JO JO IN VT 💞
I find this all so fascinating...growing your food, root cellars, home schooling... gardening, animals... so very different from my lifestyle... but very engaging! except for the spiders...! Q:: no carrots in your root cellar this year?...and did you forget the CHEESE in the scalloped potaotes?

Glad you responded for confirmation. I pleasantly was surprised to see that the coffee grinder conversion. I'll try that too.

We live in South Georgia and root cellars or basements just aren’t common. I would love to have one though.
Yes! I love when you post cooking videos.

You've just made my day. Love your videos Shaye
Your channel is such an inspiration to me and my family. Saving up for a homestead some day ❤❤❤
I have a spot in my basement ,and storing sweet potatoes. How do you deter mice? Are potatoes ok in open bins?
Mice aren't a huge problem for us because we have three indoor/outdoor cats. They were a HUGE problem before the cats!

I started a garden this year after listening to the Homemaker Chic podcast. I’ll be a Gardner yet! 🧡 look forward to these videos.

Do you have trouble with mice? and if so, how you to handle that?
Where would one buy plastic root storage bins like that?
I can't remember where I got these... search plastic vegetable crates and you'll be able to find them!
love the video! I need to learn how to cure and store potatoes and onions. It is hard to find a good video on how to prep veggies for storage.

Your dishes are so cozy!
Could mushrooms be added at the beginning with the onions and butter?
Of course!
What is the temp of your root cellar?
Welp, I know what I'll be making later this week....😊 Hope you feel better with the hand soon! ❤
I love potatoes so that dish looks amazing.

How many onions do you grow??
I try to account for 2 onions per day... we eat a lot!
Really enjoyed the video.
