    I boosted him up to archfiend level power and made him an Archfey, king of the wilds, lord of the hunt and master of the summer court... but he dumps his more menial and "boring" aspects of being a monarch to his wife and goes off and hunts, though he vehemently defends his kingdom when it's threatened.
    so I made him my fey patron who sends my PC on various hunts or trials, making my Warlock a much more weapon and CC focused fighter

    A note on the Lord's race/appearance:
    He's fey type, of course, and is suggested that he's some kind of shadow fey (elf that made a bargain with Shadow to avoid dwindling in power), but the original conception of him is that his specific identity outside being "the Lord of the Hunt" is a mystery. The original art notes also called for a more obscure face, but sometimes those don't work out for whatever reason.
    As it is, I really like the artist's interpretation of the character, who was definitely supposed to cut a powerful, rugged figure. Nailed that in spades, and the confusion over the racial identity actually feeds into the mystery surrounding him. I'll take it!

    The Celtic version of Silvanus is thought to be the deity called Cernunnos.
    Regarding his look, he isn't an elf but a fey and in terms of D&D elves are a subspecies of fey I think. And besides it's only in new age fantasy that elves or fey can't be bearded, in actual mythology there is no indication that elves are necessarily beardless. Círdan (from Tolkien's world) is a bearded elf. Bearded elves are the best elves :)
    I think all the fey lords in Tome of Beasts are really cool. I'm hoping we will get some more info on the Feywild or similar planes from WotC or other companies in the future.

    Baba Yagas horsemen join in on the hunt. That would be terrifying especially if you fight in the feywild.

      Good call. Or the party being harried by both because they are stuck in the middle of a conflict between the two.

    This reminds me of hircine from skyrim werewolf lore.

    One thing to keep in mind is that just because he is Fey, doesn't mean he is Elven. The Elves are Fey descendant so they aren't the sole image of Fey-kind. This guy can have a beard if he wants lol

      He's described as looking like an elf. So Ted's point was pic and the description didn't quite match up.

    I love the way you guys break down monsters like this. But if I could make a suggestion, I would love to hear more about how to use the monsters in the big final fight. I always feel like my big boss fights are a let down for the players. Maybe it has to do with how to design layers for them, or spell use strategies, or combat strategies, or how they strategically target different character classes. I would love to hear more about this in all of the monster break downs you guys do. Keep up the great work! Really enjoying your channel.

    I remember fighting the wild hunt in 3.5, what i'm assuming is that they just took the master of the hunt from the monster manual and converted it to 5e. So let me just run a few things from 3.5 by you and can you tell me which ones carried over? so in 3.5 he is a fey lord, speaks 7 languages, has 6 immunities, 2 resists, he attacked with a +5 flaming halberd of burst speed, and a +5 seeking mighty composite longbow (best ranged weapon in the game), and some awesome abilities like total freedom, moonhunter, moon eye, selected prey, and summon mount.

    • @Nerdarchy
      @Nerdarchy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's actually a mythological persona.
      Nerdarchist Dave

    • @clericofchaos1
      @clericofchaos1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nerdarchy I know, but it seems like more work to dndize it from scratch than to convert it from 3.5 to 5e.

    • @Dan-Dillon
      @Dan-Dillon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no relation to the 3.5 statistics (save by coincidence), I designed this Lord of the Hunt from scratch, and never read the one you're referencing here. :)

    • @clericofchaos1
      @clericofchaos1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan Dillon why? honestly it always seems simpler to convert something from an older edition than make it from scratch.

    • @Dan-Dillon
      @Dan-Dillon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The simple answer is I hadn't read the 3.5 version, as previously mentioned. Didn't even know it existed until now! If you can point me at the source material containing it, I wouldn't mind having a look.
      As far as being simpler, sometimes yes, sometimes no. When you convert from an older edition or different game, you still have to design the creature from the ground up in the appropriate ruleset, particularly if there's no established means to do whatever ability it is you need. A few times, when not doing a direct conversion but making a very similar monster, I've even deliberately stayed away from established design directions. Not saying that would have happened here, but it has happened.

    our idea for the aquatic hunt is awesome! ;>

  • @snarkback

    In a campaign I am using him like he is garruk wildspeaker from mtg.
    He has been dominated by the queen of air and darkness and taken as her husband.
    He has a hunting party and the pcs are fetching artifacts for him and one of those artifacts will be the chain veil which will make him fully insane and force him to hunt and chase the party.
    Gonna be fun

    Your comment about the Lord of the Hunt not looking like an elf, remember all elves are fey, but not all fey are elves.

  • @MyRYNOrunsHot
    @MyRYNOrunsHot 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So how does this guy (and the other Fey lords) work with the Archfey (Oberon, Titania) etc? Are they equal or like vassals to them, or independent, or something?

    • @MPPRODUCTIONSger
      @MPPRODUCTIONSger 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MyRYNOrunsHot okay I know I'm quite late in commenting but they really don't interact - unless you want them to. But the tome of beats is made to fit the midgard campaign setting published by Kobold Press. While Titania and Oberon are part of the forgotten realms campaign setting. And if you look at the fey loads and ladies in ToB you can even see some prallels to the Archfey from FR. Oberon is discribed as a huntsman so that pretty much fits the lord of the hunt - while the queen of night and magic is pretty much the queen of air and darkness from FR

    How do you use The Lord of The Hunt? Hello! Bladelock Patron. A Warlock makes a Pact to gain revenge on a king's "royal hunt" that killed his family for sustenance hunting on "crown" lands. Robin Hood meets The Crow. If/when he dies, he becomes a Hound under control of the Lord of The Hunt. This could be where all his dogs come from.
    EDIT: Ted, "Fey" does NOT equal ELVEN. Satyr, Centaurs, Sprites, Pixies and Hags are NOT Elves. Lose that preconception.

    • @Nerdarchy
      @Nerdarchy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Love that. It is also perfect for the pallock I want to make oath of the ancients/fey pact.

    Question: Does he have a predetermined Mount and if he doesn't, what do you think would be a good pick for him?

    • @Dan-Dillon
      @Dan-Dillon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He doesn't, but he casts phantom steed. In my mind he rides a magnificent black horse, but it can look like whatever you decide is cool! Riding an elk like Thranduil from the Hobbit trilogy of films wouldn't be too shabby.

    • @Goblinerd
      @Goblinerd 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My first thought reading you question was as Dan Dillon said, Thranduil's mount!!!

    maybe the reason that he looks human is that he has the ability to change his form. with the name Lord of the Hunt, I think of the Creator of the Were beasts.

    • @Nerdarchy
      @Nerdarchy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like I said with high enough Challenge Rating you look the way you wanna look. Being powerful fey I'd say they could do make minor changes to the appearance when they wanted. He definitely sounds like he could be connected to were creatures.

      It could also be a similar effect of the Rakshasa of historical legend which appears to the viewer as a trusted friend. Perhaps the Lord of The Hunt has a fey glamour which makes the entity appear as whatever the viewer expects to see.
