The best part of this book review was the section on self-image. Otherwise, this summary is superficial and doesn’t address at all the book’s instructions on how to implement needed changes, which are essential.
The Psycho-Cybernetics book is at once profound and also bloated, dated, irritatingly repetitive, and confusingly arranged and written. Multiple terms and phrases are used for the same thing. I had to summarize and rewrite it for my own use to properly understand it and implement its suggestions. But it’s worth it. The book gets at the essence, in a practical fashion, of how the human organism operates in the world. If you have looked into the free will debate at all, then you know that many / most of the thoughtful people on this topic do NOT think free will exists. This book provides an answer as to how free will DOES exist in this world. It exists in how our self image interacts with the world and how we can change it. We will then go on auto-pilot again (no free will), but you have free will to act (show up) differently in the world to the extent that you can change your self-image.
My review is obviously a serious take on the ideas in this book. Some of the book makes me want to throw up my hands and yell in irritated exasperation at it’s confusing delivery, but the central idea is profound and now widely imitated. Most of these imitations are of lesser quality and much, much more exploitative. The methods of implementing changes to the self image are key. There are a lot of similarities with the Core Beliefs that underlay Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This book, in its core, is explicitly not a ‘think-rich and get-rich’ type book, though many will try and use it that way, but those are twisted, unhealthy goals and will backfire. The Joel Osteen crap. But if you want to know how to redirect your life energies into a purposeful manner of your choosing, get this book (and rewrite it for yourself.)

Great cliff-note for this book. Actually, it is applied by many psychologists: what if you believe you are smart, you will become smart and vice versa. Again, thanks for sharing.
