Thanks! That was a fun video. As an Ex-Coastie, it’s always fun to see the Coast Guard in action. They gave me over a year of sea service and o got to visit Canada, Alaska, San Diego, the Hawaiian islands, Mexico and the South Pacific. Great memories. Thanks again.
Love seeing some extra learning for the ladies, It shows folks the Coast Guard's have the training and they can have fun at same time. BZ to all. OSCAR is safe.
I have enjoyed your videos for many years. Did my basic training at Cape May long, long ago. Served four years with the last two on a polar ice breaker. Great maturing experience that also gave me a four year degree on the G.I. Bill. While in Cape May, you could have also done a "day in the life" of a recruit in boot camp......
I spent 1 year at the ASW base in San Diego for school and 3 years on 2 different 378s. Where was your ice breaker based out of? Great job on the degree. What is your degree in?
I absolutely LOVE this video, one of my favorites of yours to date. I have always had the deepest respect for the Coast Guard who venture out in the worst conditions to help people in distress. I appreciated the respect you had for them as well and the respect for the vessel when you each took the helm. I'll be watching this one again!! Thank you, Captains, for all you do!
What an amazing time being able to train with the guys who save so many fellow boaters, plus giving us a peek inside some of the training they have to go thru, I Boat on the great Lakes and hear a lot of slack about the US Coast Guard BUT when you need them they come out no matter what the weather, having to deal with an occasional boarding is not an issue to me at all, People need to realize those boardings are mostly to make sure everything is safe and up to snuff so you dont have issues out there jeopardizing your time on the water and everyone around you, remember when you need help they will show up and usually get other boats to assist as well, always Monitor channel 16 someone's life may depend on you some day just because your the closest to them,
Another great video captains!!! The Coast Guard and all the other agencies that keep us safe don't get enough thanks for their dedication and for what they do day in and day out. Next on my bucket list is a planned move to Florida. 🙂Keep up your perseverance and I wish you well in all your future endeavors !!!
Emily & Amanda, I stumbled on to your channel this past summer when I was dreaming about cobia fishing and really appreciate the educational details which a lot of fishing shows skip over. I spent 3 months at Cape May during the fall of 89… Alpha 132! I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't served in U.S. Coast Guard, I truly miss it. LOL, I still call out "Coming Up" and now my little niece and nephew love to scream it out. I will say Oscar has really gotten some upgrades since I was in, haha. Like others have said, thanks for the positive exposure, the U.S. Coast Guard is just plain awesome. Next you got to get with the ATON crew! More fun than the SAR crew, haha. Thanks and Semper Paratus!
Did my recruit Traningat C ape May 1978 it was an eye opening rude awakening stepping off the Bus Oscar 100 very tough even went to Sunday service I wasn't a church goer bit lord please do t let them kill me and us lol but loved ot too galley week worked at the Chain locker FLipping burgers 3 of us rest of the company were crawling into Barracks. Worked Aids to Navigation some years later on 46308-10 Bouy and 21 footer boats as an engineer had a great time spent time on CGC Northwind 157 Bouy Tender Red Oak retired in 98
Those heaving lines are a lot different from what we used, USN retired in 1998. They are much larger and they have the orange ball instead of lead filed monkey's fist. Good heaving line throwers aren't as common as you think. Glad you had fun with the Coasties, they really are a great bunch of people doing amazing things.
Fun video, ladies! Great way to show off the U.S. Coast Guard! They don’t get nearly the attention they deserve. I didn’t realize Emily was wearing hoop earrings until she was talking about the engine room camera - I guess I’ve been watching long enough I don’t have to check anymore. And congrats on 150k subscribers! Woo hoo!
Don’t know if they still do it. But Coast Guard Search and Rescue planes carried pigeons. They spotted floatation suits faster then the human eye in rough seas. Pigeons have also been used in Airport Security.
I worked for a fire department that bordered San Francisco Bay. We had a 23” rescue boat. We worked with and trained with the coast guard frequently. It was the favorite part of my job.
I reported to Cape May for DEPOT on 9/11/11. I was in the Reserves at a small boat station in Mississippi for 6 years. Thankfully, you dodged working on the 29’ RBS. I would recommend visiting Tracen Yorktown and visit Boatswain Mate A school’s underway training or Coxswain C school.
Sure come a long way since my 44318 ....... One thing Ive noticed is that many of the boat crews no longer carry sidearms. Is that something new? I know our boats never left without them. Again its been many years so just asking.
We've always loved following you on Facebook but haven't seen anything lately. Just caught this video on Utube by chance. Any changes on your streaming? Always welcome to Cape Cod for a visit and stay with us at our home (the Ole Nye Tavern, built in 1776) and possibly a shot out to the Canyons on the Admiral for some big game fishing. We're talking about 400/600 lb. Tuna sometimes. We love your show and keep it up. Best Regards. Kerry and Prisky
Nice video, ladies! Now, if you REALLY want to do something crazy, see if you can talk your way into a ride on a USCG 47' motor lifeboat at Cape Disappointment, where the Columbia River goes into the ocean between Oregon and Washington. I guarantee you an absolute 'e ticket' ride! Nothing like flopping around in 18-20' surf, or going over sideways to about 90 degrees! Cheers from a former "puddle pirate"/"shallow water sailor"! 😜
Dumb question, but why is the word “pilot” the boat, compared to “drive,” no longer used? When I was younger, I was always corrected when using the word “drive” to use the word “pilot” the boat.

Enlisting with the coast guard next month this cool to see!

Congrats enjoy your Experience
Awesome video! The coastguard is so underrated. Thankful for their service(s).
Semper Paratus , you Captain’s !!!
Gotta love the Coasties. I got to train with them a few times when I was stationed at Camp Lejeune. Such a cool bunch of dudes.

Trust your government drink that WATER
They are also called “Puddle Pirates” lol. Yeah, the USCG is cool.
You Gals spent a day with my old employer, well back in the 80'S. Great service loved my four years spent there.

What vessel (378 by chance) were you assigned to?

How cool is that !!! God bless men and women of our coast guard

Great video, thanks for sharing. Thanks too to the CC. I see them all the time out on the water and it's always comforting knowing they are around.

Light wait lines and weights for fair weather heave. Lead monkey fists for rough sea heaving.
Cheers Mate

After that they might want to go to Cape D and the National Motor Lifeboat School. Learn how to be a Surfman and spend some time on a MLB in the Surf.
Awesome episode. Welcome to my home state.
That was possibly the Best Video you have done yet. Great Job
Ahhh. Cape May.
The only place in NJ I didn’t mind staying
Always pull Oscar or your MOB with their face side toward the boat. That way there is less chance of back or spinal injury pulling them aboard. 😎
Great Video!!! Go Coast Guard!
This is such a great video. I’m glad I found y’all’s channel.

Amanda, why did you sign Emily’s name to the enlistment papers? 😄
Why were you dunking Oscar’s head under the water? 😄
Y'all gotta get yourselves on a USCG cutter next!
Great video guys
Was so cool to get an insider look into their operations! Another great video 👍🏻
Great Videos! Learn alot from you guys! Keep up the excellent work! 👏 😊

My son Joshua did his Coast Guard training there!
Being on the Mexico border and fishing there my whole life the coast guard has saved me many times from fake Mexican patrol boats. 👍
Great video,
I rescued Oscar when I passed my Coastal. He was so clumsy during my exam, he tripped and fell five times...
