    So, add gelatine.

Can be making Sabi on other colors or use colored urushi?

It’s a base layer, so it’s going to be covered. I mean most likely covered.

Yes it's a base layer, and Sabi urushi can be used for the final coat, but in this case I added many layers of pure colored urushi later on. These layers contained pigment and urushi to make the color, but none of the Sabi urushi mixture was used in further steps.

I am just starting my journey of urushi. I am trying to make a furo, but its a bit weird. I can control the temperature, but the humidity where I live is 40%. I don’t really understand how to get a box to not have tropical heat but tropical levels of humidity. Any suggestions for how to make that happen?

Well, my house is air conditioned to about 70° Fahrenheit. That's a good temperature for urushi to cure. For that reason I keep my furos inside my house. Inside of the furos, which are just large plastic containers, I keep scraps of charred wood. The charred wood helps to prevent mold growth, and it also helps to absorb and release moisture for the humidity. By pouring the right amount of water into the base, the wood absorbs it and releases it into the air. I have to check the humidity levels often and adjust as needed by opening or closing some holes in the lid a little, but it is more than capable of making the urushi dry properly if you monitor it to not rise too high.

@@iwaowoodandart5815 Very good ideas. I like a more natural solution. I appreciate you answering. There is very little english information on urushi and especially furo’s. Thank you.
