The prize money was something that was added in response to criticism, it’s part of why River participated is after 2021 he said he wouldn’t anymore unless conditions improved. Some fans are still upset over past actions and them not making changes sooner.
River paid 2nd, 3rd and 4th place with his winnings. Due to how the sponsors pay goes, they only paid the top winner and the top winner split his winnings so the 2nd through 4th got paid as well

This is the first gbb with actual prize support. Some are saying that it used to be so small that it barely covered the travel costs. Brother, IT WAS A SHIRT. A FUCKING SHIRT FOR FIRST PLACE IN SOMETHING THAT THEY EARN MILLIONS ON. The prize support this past year was barely enough to cover the travel since they moved it over to Tokyo. The looostation winner, Robin, chose to split his winnings with bizkit and matej to help their travel burden. It's still too low for the profit they make. Also, the videos they put on sbb's platform make no money. It's just exposure, but sbb has a monopoly on the scene. they choose to abuse artists with it, and people are tired of it.
No they don’t earn millions off their videos. There’s legit criticism of them not paying in previous years and how they spend their money, but it’s also not the crazy numbers Spencer X was saying.

@@boneheadno yeah in Madox’s interviews with Rachel they talk about getting 10k a month off videos in bad months and 50k on good months, with 2018 and 2019 getting around 500k for the year. It sounds like they were pretty bad about getting sponsorships, there were some that they mention but it doesn’t sound like millions. Stuff like ticket sales gets eaten up by venue costs. Nowadays they have a lot more memberships and pay per view services in Japan but views are way down from 2018-2019. Not sure what other revenue you have in mind, dunno what they make from merch but I doubt it’s millions a year over other stuff. There’s definitely a lot of examples of them wasting money and not giving anything back to their big revenue earners (Rachel estimated they made 250k total from Codfish videos and I don’t think he saw anything). But she didn’t make it seem like they were swimming in millions either.
The criticism is why there's a cash prize for the winner. But now one of the big criticisms is that *ONLY* the first place got anything. It's very much a win or suck scenario. It's better, but still not where it should be IMO.
napom in my eyes won both rounds.. BUT his stupid "damn daniel" joke ruined it. i will get hate but i dont really think rivers won that. even napom rebuttled quickly and threw it back to him
Well, only 1st place gets paid, so like 2nd gets nothing. This means you could win several battles, lose the final, and walk away with nothing. It also costs a lot to even attend gbb in the first place. But yea, in most cases, it should be that way.@CliffBeatsOfficial Beatboxers just struggle a lot financially, some don't get to attend.
