Just wait as soon as you become comfortable you will be amazed automations are incredibly powerful like for instance creating a geofence around your house so when your iphone gets say within 5 miles of your house the a/c or heat can be set so that when you arrive its at the temp you set and same goes for when you leave so many sensors are exposed for your ability to control things
didn't you want to allocate Hubitat for only connectivity by connecting it to HA? you wouldn't have to buy a Zegbee dongle. Would such a solution have disadvantages?
did you ever contemplate setting up HA on your openmediavault server or in Docker? Curious if that's a worthy option or is it better to set it up as you did on it's own mini PC, thanks in advance.
Hubitat C7 to the new C8 Pro may have been a better path to take. Tell us more about Hubitat shortcomings that’s pushing you to HA. How is Hubitat not working for you? Is Hubitat unstable (the C8 pro spec is more robust with many tech improvements over the C7)? Are there devices that you find are incompatible or difficult to integrate with Hubitat? Are there automations Hubitat can’t accomplish and you feel Hubitat limits your smart home capabilities? I have both platforms and I’m finding HA to be a challenge. No argument here that HA is the most powerful smart home platform out there, but it’s a huge time commitment to maintain. When working in the HA environment, it’s too, too easy to go down the rabbit hole in my opinion. Very curious to hear you compare the two platforms feature by feature in the next vid of your journey converting to HA.
Hi Dad😂😂 I have been running HA for 1 year now with luck. I am not computer savvy, a friend of mine installed HA for me on a spare laptop. I write automations and add devices. I have 94 devices with 40 automations. Tell me, will the C8 of Hubitat be able to handle what i have? I am asking you because the C8 is not dependant on wifi to run automations. It is quite expensive, but if it keeps everything local, its worth trying it. I am using Sonoff devices and about 10 of them are Zigbee and i use a Zigbee dongle E tipe, with arial.
You mentioned "only had 4GB of RAM" which you're right it doesnt sound like a lot... But Home Assistant doesnt nstively use much RAM. If you arent using their Voice stuff, then even 2GB is enough for a few hunfred devices connected over Z-wave / Zigbee / ESPHome etc. Even with Voice its still only ~2.5GB for me. If youre going to run something like UniFi as an Add-On, that'll change, but just dont feel like youre cutting yourself short with less RAM etc ✌️

This feature/automation can easily be done with most smart home ecosystems today. It’s not unique to HA.

I am at 2.2GB and run over 100 zigbee devices, multiple automations, and adguard.
I am the sole user, so I would say more ram=better
