I never knew Belushi was lined up for Ghostbusters. Must be tough having to trawl through all of it over and over. Glad he didn't get the boot in on Chevy Chase like it's become fashionable to do. These guys were gods in the 80s. A perfect storm of comedy talent. Aykroyd, Belushi, Murray, Chase, Candy, Murphy, Martin, Moranis. Love em all.
I've always loved Dan, but lately I think he has become my new favorite! I just loved him with his friend John Candy in "The Great Outdoors." "You TWIST it! You TWIST it!" So funny!
Love that guy, especially in Trading Places and what a gentleman when he talks about Carrie Fisher (tactfully, he doesn't give the name of the guy who "stole" him his fiancee!).
I saw Neighbours last night and I really liked it. The reviewers dumped on it when it first came out (John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd play two suburban neighbours who have one zany mishap after another), but I think the film is finally finding it's fans. At least it should because it's a great film. Very funny.
Great interview! So difficult to find a journalist who actually asks these classic movie actors well-researched questions. Empire always knows their stuff!
Whatever he does in his life, he's always sincere and puts his heart into it. That and he's intelligent enough to make most of those endeavors a success. That's what I love about him ❤❤
I wish they'd release all these Ghostbusters 3 scripts that Aykroyd discusses in book form. It'd be fascinating to see how the characters evolved over different drafts. I'd be particularly interested to know more about the part he wrote for Murray that he mentioned in this interview.
Would have been cool to see back in the 90's a Ghostbusters 3 with some more SNL alumni. Could you imagine seeing Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Jim Belushi etc with the Ghostbusters?
At 13:28 Dan says it's himself, Ivan (Reitman, presumably) and *Harold* who are 'currently' working on the new Ghostbusters script.. Anyone would be forgiven for assuming he means Harold Ramis, who also co-wrote and starred in the original movie, but given that this interview was conducted in Oct 2014, that would be difficult seeing as Ramis died 8 months earlier.
i dont understand why people knock ghostbusters 2...maybe its because i was a child when it came out and now when i look back at it I still love it because it brings me back to my childhood..I am very upset to hear that its going to be a complete reboot. he says he wants to make it like the new star trek..what he needs to do is make it like the new star wars, use optical,practical-effects..bring back the slimer puppet..bring back the crappy lazer beams..that was the world, that was practical. it wont however work as a sequel is all of a sudden slimer can now do things he never was able to do before (thanks to cgi) very upsetting...very very upsetting. Clearly the people who did not enjoy G2 were the 19 year olds when it came out and not the 7 year olds like me. on that note everybody hated the phantom menace because star wars was a childrens film and everybody grew up by the time it came out! It should be noted that akroyd is obsessed with the occult, anyone who attends spiritual rituals and participates in the communication with ghosts know for a fact that they are really in communication with demons. Dont fall for this bullshit.
+joe h To be fair we have no idea how the new Star Wars will turn out. Despite the practicals, it does so far look like an average action movie with actors doing that bland "intense stare" acting. The new Star Treks aren't perfect, but the actors do manage to have some charm. And they have encouraged many fans to seek out the original Trek shows. It's not a bad model to follow. And btw, I'm a huge fan of G2.
"What was it like working with Eddie Murphy? He was a HUGE star in 1983!" Well, Dan Aykroyd was also a HUGE star in 1983! Trading Spaces actually came out a few months before Eddie's stand-up documentary Delirious which really skyrocketed Murphy's success...along with 1984's production of Beverly Hills Cop. But at the time of filming Trading Spaces, Murphy may've had 48 hrs under his belt, but he was still trying to make a name for himself outside of SNL. Aykroyd was actually the huge star having achieved the kind of "Hollywood" success that Murphy was attempting to gain for himself. I don't say that to dismiss Murphy (who I love), who did eventually become a powerhouse star. But I do feel the interviewer's statement was dismissive of Aykroyd's own star power...especially in the early 80's.
Ghostbusters 3 is at such a delicate stage. It is going to happen but nobody is sure about what Ghostbusters movie we are going to see. The current idea is that an all female team will be involved perhaps with the older team from the original added to that. Without being disrespectful to women they could be great but it just doesn't sound right for me. Its a movie fans want to see but there is so much uncertainty over it at the moment. We will have to wait for more news on it so we know more about how it is going to turn out.
11:15 To all the people being jerks about the new movie, proof that the Ghostbusters 3 movie was supposed to be different from the first 2 the entire time.
Actually Dan Aykroyd's, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman production of Ghostbusters 3 is completely different to Ghostbusters 2016. It was going to be way better but Amy Pascal scrapped it all with a poor reboot. Good thing the 2016 movie is flopping and struggling to break even. Sony needs to make at least $300 million to start making profits.
Great interview, but a damn shame that a true GB3 didn't happen. I still hold out hope we'll get Aykroyd and Hudson back in a new movie with them playing their original characters and with none of that awful remake being present. Even a TV series with the original cast and a new cast would be clever to see. Will miss Ivan Reitman's touch though, and of course practical FX.
Empire Australia, Here is the update on Mr. Dan Aykroyd that himself was rushed to the Emergency Room in Los Angeles, CA was from last Saturday after suffering from extreme stomach pain. However, his representative told the news media on Mr. Aykroyd's behalf that Mr. Aykroyd said that he will be O.K. and he'll be getting well soon and soon to make it through as part of Mr. Aykroyd's speedy recovery.

Interesting interview but WAY too much time was spent asking Dan about Bill Murray not being interested in Ghostbusters 3. That line of questioning went on...and on...and on...
he also use to date carrie fisher..a well known witch (practices wicca) with her best friend yoko ono who is also a witch...witches are not green skinned and warts and broomsticks..thats a hollywood deciet. they are however evil no matter how you slice is..btw debbie reynolds plays a witch in the disney channel movie halloweentown.
What a guy...can not say enough nice things about this guy. Must be the Canadian syndrome....most.... if not all Canuks are just genuinely nice people.
Very interesting now look if it is going to be all women, then I think it should go like, the guys are getting too old and they have to recruit there daughters.
Casper Jean Rimbaud Directors often admit that making sequels is telling the same story differently. Blues Brothers 2000 was about celebrating the artists, not the plot. When Feigbusters comes out, you'll all look at Ghostbusters II with a different attitude.
+Dale Chawkins Actually people like it because it'ss one of the rare sequels where the characters retain their same chemistry. I have no idea where this "pretty bad" thing came from.
Dan Aykroyd seems like a really down to earth and cool guy to hang out with.
I never knew Belushi was lined up for Ghostbusters. Must be tough having to trawl through all of it over and over. Glad he didn't get the boot in on Chevy Chase like it's become fashionable to do. so true
You just have to love Dan Akroyd
A BRILLIANT man & one of my childhood heroes!!! Love Dan Aykroyd, he's a truthful genuine nice guy & a comic genius
I love Aykroyd!! Great interview! Thank you guys
"I've always worked with the best"
Dan's forgot about Blues Brothers 2000.
Even if the movie didn't work out, it still showcases plenty of great talent.
I've always loved Dan, but lately I think he has become my new favorite! I just loved him with his friend John Candy in "The Great Outdoors." "You TWIST it! You TWIST it!" So funny!

Fascinating individual
This is the best interview I have ever seen with Dan Aykroyd. I must purchase some of this vodka now ... The bottle is awesome! Great job guys :)
I love him
Elwood Blues from The Blues Brothers & Dr. Ray Stantz from Ghostbusters.
I just found out about this Vodka. Gotta try it. :>)
One of the greats.... ☝️
I also just saw 1941 and I liked that one also. The movie is a kind of Big red One meets Animal House.
Love YOU!!!!

and we're finally getting a gb3 in 2021
what a dude!

I like the 2nd one
great interview : )
Dan Aykroyd is true blues authority.
What an absolute legend;
You missed a great gag there with his family interested in spirits and a bottle of vodka next to you!

in the 80's he was at his peak
He mentions Dream Laboratory at the Maimonides at 06:07s but I didnt catch the rest. What does he mention?

Hello friend, I'm from the future. Now, about you thinking Answer the Call not sounding right. Are you sitting down? 😂
All I heard was, "I'm not a nostalgic guy...stop asking about 30 year old movies and ask me about my vodka!"
I actually got the chance to see dan and talk to him in four seasons hotel in Sydney
i would have loved that. I didnt even no he was coming to sydney
You missed River Phoenix& House Of Blues:)

Dan: "To me, [Ghostbuster II] was very successful."
Off camera: *coughbullshitcough*
XD
"There were really great elements in the picture [Ghostbusters II] and I don't think it deserves the slagging that Billy gave it."
Thank you Dan!
It was not that bad!!!
@@leahryan5560 It was pretty bad, even if there hadn't been a first one.
This was recorded a year a two before Harold died.
Not the Head!! Skull!! ;)
Wow.. a year ago..

Trying to find a D A interview without a fucking crystal skull..... failing.
Beruanga Mation Totally, but wish he'd stop plugging it, with the sole exception of up his ass.
When was this interview conducted?
JJ chatted to Dan in October last year.

Who cares.
What a guy...can not say enough nice things about this guy. Must be the Canadian syndrome....most.... if not all Canuks are just genuinely nice people.
I’m sorry but ghostbusters II is better then the first.
Oh please let Ghostbusters 3 be a reality.. hire Rick Moranis and Eddie Murphy to fill out the the roles. Would be great.
Dan looks like he hasn't aged all that much.
Daniel Williamson: He's currently 65
Very interesting now look if it is going to be all women, then I think it should go like, the guys are getting too old and they have to recruit there daughters.
Bill and Dan don't seem like very good friends despite what I hear to the contrary from both of them
Agreed. A third one must not be made (especially the way it's being proposed now)
Casper Jean Rimbaud

It's unbelievable that Aykroyd can't get another shot at directing because his first effort tanked at the box office.
But really directing ??? Hè does'nt want, ,dan aykroyd was a outstanding writer
Nothing but trouble is one of my favorite movies .
Dan u f-Ed up on ghostbuster the reboot
He looks absolutely terrible and is hiding behind his stupid sunglasses. Vodka? Like the World needs another business selling booze.
