That's not spit he's using to glue the end of the strick. It's a naturally-produced, mildly enzymatic, aqueous solution. Also used by museum curators to clean works of art.
you would leave a part of the crop for seed, the flax for linen was harvested soon after flowering (the sooner the finer the linen) before the seed had set
Back in the day the flax was pulled when straw 2/3 yellow top 1/3 green. Flax seed doesn’t ripen all at once. So inside the seed boll would be some green seed and some mature seed. The fiber wouldn’t be as fine as it would be if pulled before seed set but still plenty fine. The seeds are removed in step one called rippling. Basically same thing as combing but nails further apart and no need to do root end.
isa 19:9 Those who work with combed flax will despair, the weavers of fine linen will lose hope. 10 The workers in cloth will be dejected, and all the wage earners will be sick at heart.
You make it look so easy! I just went to a processing workshop, and it was hard!
I love the simplicity of this. You can do it all by youreself without complicated tools.
This is amazing, I find your videos very resourceful. Thank you!
