I live and work in the Granite county area. I often see CDT hikers, road hiking towards Anaconda. This summer, I am going to find the trail head that leads to Highway 1 and Anaconda. I wanna add some trail magic to these hikers trip, as they exit the Pintlers.
+flatbrokeoutside haha yea i sort of freaked out. it's a very thru hiker thing to put something in a different place one time and get totally confused and paranoid about losing everything
+John Zahorian Yah can hardly wait to see your AT video's too. For myself II joined a local elder hiking group that hike every week no matter what. So the first 2 hikes had lots of fresh snow and the second hike was minute 33 cel rofl. Anyway my UTube channel is now up and running and I am recording these hikes. You can see my newbie camera style but the next video will be the best yet and the standard. I would love you to subscribe and watch my video's. Hopefully you will find them as enjoyable as I found yours. This summer I am section hiking the IAT New Brunswick for 265km and the following year the IAT Quebec for 650km. Those 2 hikes are the practise hikes for the AT the year after. Happy Trails 2016.
do you ever look back at these videos and think about how far you came? you have a comment floating around that says "uncertainty then, foreshadowing now," and it has really got me thinking the last few days while watching these.
This episode and the one before made me decide im going to do the cdt :'D The landscape is litterally like taken from my dreams, it almost brings tears to my eyes watching this!
Really enjoying this series of videos, it's a great mix of personal insight and scenery. I think you've mentioned before you eat about 6,000 calories a day, can you maybe go through what a typical day of food would be for you on the trail? Cheers
"When the cricket piggy backs on your hat, then you have become one with the Tao, Grasshopper." (Faux quote from '70's TV Show "Kung Fu", for the space-time ignorant) What a gift these mementos are. And "Pro Tips" sprinkled in. Cheers.
John, is route finding difficult on the CDT? A lot of your shots you are just walking in an open area and I don't see a well defined path. Loved the last clip. Ha!
John do you think the "sleepiness" was due to lack of calories because it seems like you're the sort of guy who would kinda maybe just a bit skimp on your daily food intake-- was that a horrible assessment..? -- the videos are so great man
+60westpro yes. i did this section as 225 miles without resupply and as a result i had fewer calories per day than normal in order to keep my pack weight manageable. i made up for it in the next section and put weight back on but i agree that my caloric intake played a big part in my fatigue in this section.
I can relate to the "two mini swigs of water" part. Haha
+Neemor's World love the swigs.

John, your hiking videos are nothing short of amazing. Keep on doing what you're doing.
+James Eggleston thanks! i plan on it
I love your older videos like this. They are what made me start thru hiking.
You really scared me for a minute with that map thing. Whew! Great video, as always!!

-John, probably lol
1:22 Jiminy Crickets ....let your conscience be your guide.
A half of a swig of water!? Lol, like a bottle cap full?
+David Stone i see the bottle cap half full rather than a bottle cap half empty

Loved the last clip. Ha!
sometimes the trail fades a bit. route finding isn't too bad
were you on a tight schedule or something? Why push so hard when you were tired? nothing wrong with a zero day on the trail.
