Just recently got into the game, still very new, but I can't think of a better channel to go to for Arkham content. Keep up the great work! Thank you for making so much content targeted at new players
I like this approach... I do this a lot when teaching people the game. Usually I'll make a deck for them and explain them what the main idea is, and give them a subset of upgrades and give them guidance. Then I finally let them free on ArkhamDB and watch their mind get blown :)
Awesome video. More like this please. For a new player, though, I think a lot of people quickly understand how to play Guardian and Seeker. Next-easiest is the Survivor. Rogue and Mystic are harder. Looking forward to those )))
Mystics are imho the easiest. Max out your brain and do everything with it, what other investigators would need several stats for. The only thing, you have to pay extra attention to, compared to others, is the doom threshold.
There is no real "fit all" correct ratio of card types. Some investigators lean more into a specific type, e.g. Yorick in Assets, Sefina in Events and Minh in Skills, and these are quite obvious from their special ability. Others are fine with roughly a 10:10:10 build. More important is to gauge the economy. The more expensive your cards are, the more cash cards you need in your deck. Or you should consider exchanging some of the most expensive ones with skills. Their Zoey example deck is quite Asset heavy and low on Skills, which would be potentially a quite unbalanced ratio for some investigators. But I see two good reasons, why they did that: First, they packed 6 weapons and 6 allies, and that's good for consistency, to have a reasonable chance to get one of each type down in round 1 or 2. You never need to play all of them (would be a waste of actions anyway) and will eventually commit some of the ones, you did not play. The second is, that Zoey's special ability is giving her extra resources. So she is less starved than other Guardians for cash. But even with her, they added E-Cash, Stand Together (Glory and cantrip-Skills for cards) and no Dynamite Blast, so overall an affordable deck, you won't risk too much running out of resources.
I like this idea. Zoey had been my go-to for new players wanting to play blue. Curious to see who you pick for the other colors, especially red. I use Rex for yellow, Finn for green, and Jacqueline for purple. Red is hard to nail down with how much variety there is among them, but first time red is usually either Pete or Wendy in my experience.
Jacqueline or Agnes would be my go-to picks as Mystic. Jacqueline has hands down one of the most powerful special ability, her weakness can be tough though, shutting off her ability for more than half a game, which can be frustrating. In particular, if you don't pack several mitigation cards like Olive and Dark Prophecy, that do nothing else for new players, who just want to do their Shrivelling and Rite of Seeking. I like Agnes a little more for that reason. Her ability is limited in uses, but also real useful, and she has the best 0-2 off-class to support it. It also teaches players to see the health statline as a resource. Yes, her weakness will cost the group 1 round every time she draws it, but that's fine with new players.
Gonna be teaching my parents in May. This may be a useful series I also explain the classes by using characters from The Mummy since everyone loves that movie and its really close to the arkham vibe
What class does each character from The Mummy get? Guardian is Rick and Seeker is Evie pretty easily for me. Ardeth Bay would be my Mystic. I'm always torn for Jonathon and Beni, but I think I'd make Jonathon my Rogue and Beni my Survivor (which is ironic). But I think they could fit either class.
@@PlayingBoardGames yeah I have Rick as guardian, even as seeker, the medjais as mystics, Johnathan as rogue, and Benny as survivor. Its kinda apt that survivor and rogue can switch since it took a while for them to get distinct personalities. Also fighting a mummy that kills off allies to advance its agenda sounds exactly like arkham
Would it be possible to add to all the videos of this seri, in the details/comments the full list of cards (with expansion) ? I don't use Arkham db and I'm screenshotting them so far
The medical student / guard dog interaction is only possible with Charisma, right? Or can you play a medical student, heal the dog, and then discard her immediately since she double occupies the ally slot?
Also, if you only have the core set, you only have a 3 part campaign. It's still possible to drive him insane by the end of Midnight Masks (if he is the Lead Investigator in The Gathering), but less likely. What makes him imho one of the hardest investigator to handle for new players in an 8 part campaign is, that he can easily fall into a downward spiral with his Cover Up weakness, making it harder and harder to survive.
Great idea for a series. This is why your channel is the best content for this game.
Yup by far the best
long time watcher, 1st time commenter! i really like the new thumbnails and slide layouts. much higher quality content keep up the great work!

This video was super helpful!

Really like the idea of this series and nice first episode!
Mostly I am very lost at deckbuilding for AH because of the complexity and correct ratio of card types. Very helpful and like to see more of those!

Oh man! That's the series i was waiting for! I tend to teach quite a few people, so such decks and especially videos are so desirable! So cool!
I love the idea. Follows all the procedures for good teaching.
super helpful series man, cant wait for the classes, please keep it up!
Very nice video to watch! Very entertaining and informative! Our favorite channel for our favorite game!
Great idea for a video series!

I wonder if Jacqueline might not as good for a teaching deck because isn't she all purple?
@@ronaldbell7429 it's fine for learning purple, and Jacqueline is very strong and versatile, too

William Yorick, playing a bunch of Guardian cards: ☹️
Why does level 0 Beat Cop keep getting the nod over Greta? Isn't the 1 extra cost worth picking up some clues?

you can't do that no
What if you only have the core set and have no choice but to play Roland? Would a new player be fine with him?
Yup, Roland works the same as Zoey and the deck we discussed in this video.
Also, if you only have the core set, you only have a 3 part campaign. It's still possible to drive him insane by the end of Midnight Masks (if he is the Lead Investigator in The Gathering), but less likely. This list has too many out of class cards, right? Am I missing something?
Make a Zoey shotgun deck
Obligatory "why no Cyclopean Hammer?" comment.
Is this a new Batman game? Now its trading cards? WTF?
