Lore wise technically these kids have absolutely no karmic debt. It's something you accumulate over time after endless slaughter, not something you're born with- so ye if that makes y'all feel better then-

They also wouldn't be Yakshas since that's more of a title for a certain few Adepti specially recruited/tasked with by Rex Lapis to keep Liyue safe.
I think what they mean by keeping it in check is making sure they dont actually get any
@@spirit8716 The thing however is, that it is not easy to get karmic debt in the first place (or at least in an amount that is harmful for oneself).
They are literally kids, so unless they find Klee and make some sort of Adepti power amplified bomb that wipes out Teyvat... uhhh... and even then, it would be a one time thing (and they would probably get blown up themselves too).
Xiao and the other Yaksha only accumulated enough harmful karmic debt, because for centuries, no, milleniums they slaughtered everything that might endanger Liyue. Especially the lingering spirits of slain gods, whose wrath persisted to exist, even after they were long since dead.
That does not mean that the comic isn't super cute though and those misunderstandings do not change that of course. But the Terms "Yaksha" and "Karmic Debt" are simply used in the wrong way (and explaining it by saying it is an AU is kinda a weak excuse in my opinion.)

I know it's just a comic but there are a couple of inaccuracies with the lore :
- Yakshas are simply put, elite warrior adepti, they're not a race, more like a job. So it doesn't really make sense for small little adepti to be made Yakshas at such a young age.
- Karmic debt is accumulated because of the bad karma from dead god remnants, this implied that they killed said dead god remnants? Doesn't really make sense to me that Zhongli would make them do these duties if he's pampering them like in this comic

I’m Lae’s editor, and I have permission to answer regarding the plot’s lore and such.
First of all, there is a certain amount of headcanon lore to take into consideration.
For the use of the “little Yaksha” term, it is mainly a nickname since they are the children of Xiao. It is used it in an affectionate way, not in the sense that they are Yaksha.
Then for the karmic debt, and this mostly relates to the headcanon lore, since the kids are Xiao’s, it is as if some of the debt had “spilled” on them. Their proximity to Xiao also doesn’t help.
I hope the headcanon lore will make more sense as more of the story is posted 🙂

@@ItzEvinka Fair point ig, I try not to go into headcanon lore because there's basically an unlimited amount of them and when you mention headcanon anything is up for interpretation, just pointing out how it doesn't match up well with the actual canon lore, which I just wanted to give my two cents on

I mean the karmic debt thing isn’t really clear is the actual lore either. For example whether or not it would affect one’s offspring isn’t addressed in the official lore. We try to make it as close to the lore as possible, but we also take some artistic liberties upon the interpretation for the sake of the story.
Yet again, none of those “ship” comics follow the official lore either, and so given their nature, we can expect some amount of head cannon lore interleaved in them.
We try get at least as much inner coherence and continuity as possible, so that at least the story holds together.
I hope it makes sense.
