    Good use for a fx loop is if you use a separate preamp pedal, such as Sansamp BDI, Aguilar Tonehammer or a modeling multi fx unit such as Line6 Helix, you can bypass the amplifiers preamp by connecting your pedal directly to fx return, and only use the amp as a power amp for the cabinet.

    • @Lykanthrop
      @Lykanthrop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point!
      I do it similarly with a guitar preamp sometimes. But still, that's not using it as a loop, rather using the return only. That's what I meant when I said there's no real reason for having an FX loop. I'd prefer having only a "return input" to use only the power amp section, but then again, why not go and buy a dedicated power amp only for using the modeling preamp?

    • @Mattseak
      @Mattseak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Lykanthrop Great points from you too! I agree, it is so rare to see anyone use the loop for what it's really intended for, it's kinda useless to have it in this amp and return input would make more sense.
      I guess one could argue, that with this you have it as a backup too if your pedal(s) fail (but how often does that ever happen, if you take care of your gear) even if you normally use it as just a power amp, but on the other hand you could find a usable dedicated power amp for even cheaper.

    A good use of the effects loop is for slaving your amp. You can send the preamp out to a bigger amp, or take in a preamp from a lower powered amp. That would be my guess at what to use it foe if you don't use it for effects.

    Finally someone reviewed harley benton products I wanted to buy, definitely getting the HB Head. I have a Peavey Mark 4 bit every switch has now fallen to the darkside and have to use only the poweramp of the amp. Not a big problem since I get my sound from my pedals and that goes to the front of house but If I wanted to get a different tone for me on stage as a monitor that wouldn't be possible. Also I already have an ampeg 4x10 but I think the horn is not working, I've though of buying just a horn and replace it but after watching this, I might buy the HB 4x10 as well haha. Thanks for the reviews man lml.

      Das pedal habe ich mir Ende 2020 gekauft und das erste Mal im Mayhem - Impious Devious Leper Lord video benutzt. Seither in JEDEM Video. Also auch in dem Nargaroth Video ;)
      Für 30€ kann man da echt nichts falsch machen.
      Ich habe auch einen Ibanez SR505 und kann mir gut vorstellen, dass der ab jetzt sehr viel weniger zum Einsatz kommen wird und ich überwiegend zu dem neuen HB 5-Saiter greifen werde.

    This is an awesome run through of the gear! I’ve been eyeing the solidbass rig myself. My understanding is that while Harley Benton is great value for money there QC can be very hit or miss. Do you feel this rig could stand the rest of time, especially the amp head?

    • @Lykanthrop
      @Lykanthrop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think QC has improved a ton in the past few years. All guitars and other HB I own now feel super solid and reliable, otherwise I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending it to anyone or even using it as my main live gear.
      If something fails for a studio recording (like a guitar, bass or amp, etc) it sucks, but it's not the end of the world. Live on stage it's something else. You simply can't have that happen. I trust my HB instruments so much, that I solely use the HB custom guitar for every single live gig now instead of my PRS guitar, and even retired my guitar amp rig and only use the HB DNA FX.

    Effects loop for bass player - octaver, distortion , chorus and wah plus extra pedal limiter for that extra ny style warm sound (anything from Geddy Lee to Lemmy).For propper bass tone is a must.And please your timing is very off. As Bass player you have to be slight faster than rest of the crew (bass tones get that time to move that air).

    • @Lykanthrop
      @Lykanthrop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shouldn't that all sound the same if you put those effects in front of the amp, instead of in the loop? The amp itself doesn't distort the sound and the loop is usually used in guitar amps to have all your time-based effects (reverb, delay, etc) "after" the Distortion source. So a Distortion pedal (like the orange one I'm using in this video) should not sound any different if put in the loop, or into the input before the amp.
      That was my whole point. Bass amps don't usually distort the sound, so if you want a distorted sound AND a delay for example, it's all done with pedals and you can arrange the signal chain in front of the amp however you like.
      The only reason I could think of, would be the build in compressor. If you want a delay, echo or reverb, that could sound quite different in front of the amp with the compressor turned on, than in the loop. 🤔

    Witzigerweise spielen viele Black Metalbands live ohne Bassist. Das juckt auch die Wenigsten. Für mich gehört ein Bass auch zu einer kompletten Band, aber speziell auf BM Konzerten geht das auch ohne. Hauptsache die Gitarren, die Drum und der Grimgesang knallen... dann gehts auch mal ohne. Erst am WE beim Schwarzmetall über'm Miriquidi zB Rimruna nur zu Zweit, war ok und noch ne Band ohne Bassline. War auch ganz ok. Auch wenns in deinem Video eher um Musiker Interessen geht, wollt ich das mal los lassen. Der durchschnittliche Hörer würde es eh nicht bemerken, wenn ers nicht sehen würde.

    • @Lykanthrop
      @Lykanthrop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ich bin da ganz bei dir. Live, und vor allem im black metal, ist das alles nochmal anders. In der Szene sind es eh meistens eher kleinere Bühnen und der Sound oft gewollt ziemlich räudig. All die Jahre, die ich bei Nargaroth gespielt habe, hatten wir nie einen Bassisten dabei und es hat immer gereicht mit nur zwei Gitarren.
      Allerdings gibt es dann aber auch Bands, die erkennen, welches Potential im Bass steckt. Ich glaube es war Dark Funeral auf dem Kings of Black Metal vor vielen Jahren, die mich total weg geblasen haben. Brachial fetter Sound - plötzlich hatte der Bassist ein technisches Problem und musste ein paar Sekunden im Song aussetzen: dünner 08/15 sound. Kaum steigt er wieder ein, hatte man die Wand wieder voll im Gesicht. Aber wie gesagt, so ein Festival ist jetzt auch nicht gleichzusetzen mit den meisten anderen bm Konzerten.

      @@Lykanthrop absolut deiner Meinung. Allein beim Beispiel Schwarzmetall ü M. dieses Wochenende haben am Ende zB Krater die Bühne mit einer kompletten Band dermaßen zerfetzt. Das klang so brachial und dennoch harmonisch insgesamt, weshalb ich eben auch ein Fan von"'kompletten" Bands bin.
      Du bist in meinen Augen sowieso ein Ausnahmemusiker in unserer Black/Deatch/Pagan Musikszene. Ich verfolge dich ja auch schon sehr lange. Allein "to live is to die" klingt bei dir so sagenhaft geil, dass es für mich sogar das Original übertrifft und das bei Metallica zu erreichen ist ganz großes Kino.
