Back around 1960, shortly after I started working at the 167 Fighter Squadron, WV ANG, I helped work on a P-51 that belonged to a weather modification company. The pilot did a lot of the maintenance and being an avionics technician (radio repairman back then), I primarily helped him obtain and maintain electronics. This was really great. I especially enjoyed the Curtis P40 because I had a Testor's U-control model of this airplane as a kid in the 1960s also because I read and learned about Claire Chenault and his Flying Tigers defending the construction of the Burmese Highway prior to the USA entering WW2. The Spitfire produced the best flight sounds to my surprise. I would have expected the Corsair to sound best.

This video was shot at the Classic Fighters Marlborough airshow - top of the South Island of New Zealand. Not Warbirds Over Wanaka. New Zealand has several iconic airshow events.
@@emersoncaicedo3146 There is, however, a Mark XIV Spitfire now based at Omaka, where a lot of the scenes in this video were shot. It was brought into New Zealand in the mid-1990s by Tim Wallace at Wanaka. In January 1996 the Spitfire crashed on takeoff at Wanaka and was badly damaged. It passed through different hands until it wound up at Ardmore air field in - I think - 1997, where it was eventually repaired and made its first public appearance at the Classic Fighters air show 2015. Fully restored, it made a twenty minute test flight at Ardmore on the Thursday before the air show, then flew down to Omaka late on Friday. Next morning, when we walked in for the day's activities, we saw *three* Spitfires lined up - something that had not been seen south of the equator for more than sixty years. Next day, they started the activities and three Spitfires doing a flyby is not a show starter, but a show *stopper* in anyone's book. Two of the Spitfires are Mark IXs and when the three of them were flying it was very easy to tell which one had the Griffon motor - bigger engine than the Merlin, slower running and different firing order, which gives it a completely different sound. At this year's Classic Fighters Omaka air show, while the Mark XIV was doing one of its displays, a commentator said that for insurance reasons, this aircraft doesn't display anywhere else than at Omaka. I guess the reasons aren't hard to figure out: the owners have a limited budget and the aircraft costs a fortune to maintain and fly and when it does fly, the insurance premiums hit the stratosphere. Still we air show fans are very glad to have one here.
That was great thank you...I live near Caboolture airfield Queensland 🇦🇺.And there are often air shows...The growl of those engines is really something else.. 👍
The sound these old planes made was part of the warfare tactic. The psychological effect it had on the enemies was very demoralizing and awesome. Both sides used sound as psychological weaponry. Who can forget the sound of the Junkers Ju-87 Stuka, or the Whistle of the Vought F4U Corsair?

I like the hawker hurricane
love the sound of these planes
Whatever that was at 17 seconds was amazing!
P-40 and man it sounds amazing
Excellent video! Added to favorites to watch again later, the sound is almost therapeutical.
This is the best TH-cam video i have seen on a long time, cheers!
That was great thank you...I live near Caboolture airfield Queensland 🇦🇺.And there are often air shows...The growl of those engines is really something else.. 👍
I truly love seeing these aircraft flying!!! Beautiful!!! Thank you for the video
Damn good pyro at the end!
When those two P-40’s roared across the screen I wanted to head for cover and shout .....strafing run !
I fucking love propeller driven aircraft
Love those engine sounds!
Love that noise
Luvin the sound of the Spitfire😊
Makes me miss the sounds that used to come out of El Toro AFB.
WWII relics, many of them can be seen at The Royal Air Force Museum in Colindale, London I was there.-
Wow that seaplane was so cool! You don’t see those very often anymore
