Tony, just watched this awesome episode. We have similar lives and experiences. I have been ski and snow board instructor in Austria as a side job. My first time in BKK was 1990. Now I live in HH since 2014. Same like you, best move ever! Cheers mate. 🍺
I first went in 87 and right through the 90s, the biggest change is demographic of the visitor , the number of cars, used be many more motor bikes and of course the sky train but still a fantastic city to visit .
A pleasure to have known you Tony you are an inspiration. Thanks for all your help over the years and I hope that you have the absolute best of times for as long as you grace this world. Peace brother. ✌️ ski and Trace
Hy Rocket, Yeah I remember too the first night in Bangkok. I stayed at Nana Hotel and the Radio play the Song One Night in Bangkok. Amazing Thailand Greetings Markus
Hi Rocket Travels, I live in Canada and I love watching all your videos. I’m just a blue collar fella like yourself. So happy that you’re living your dream retirement. Don’t listen to any of the negative comments or haters. Would love to have a pint with you. You seem like a down to earth chap. Cheers🍻
Love what you’re bringing to the table, you’re so positive, with a Never Say Never Attitude! That’s the sign of a Contented Man, very enjoyable viewing keep it going Rocket Man!😊👍👍👍😂
Hi Rocket! Thanks for sharing your back story on this vlog. I spent most of my 30’s in Asia too, and felt the same way with the fascination. Subscribed to you a couple of months ago and enjoy your videos. Ironically, I’m originally from near you, Market Harborough. Been in the States for 20 years but still travel to Asia twice a year for work and would love to meet up for a Chang, if I’m Thailand. Take care bruv and God bless, you are living your dream, I admire that mate!
I really enjoy seeing your journey mate. Very happy for you and I love the content of all your videos and your travels. Keep on making the content! For sure we’ll have a Chang sometime in the future 🍺😊. Up the Diamonds haha! (Although from a couple of vids, I did see you had a working class shirt with irons on it 😂) 👍
This was a really nice video. I did something similar in 2003. A flight to Bangkok, clueless... Middle of nowhere and shit myself on the first walk outside the hotel. Few beers and i was away. Love the place

Good on you Tony your making the best decision to make it full time to Thailand 👍 Tony your going to go through some major highs and lows this next few months but Don’t Loose Your Mojo cos your a top guy and your Rocking It for all us guys back home 🙏🙏
What visa will you use when returning to Thailand this time? You have a few options NON O Marriage visa with 400,000 baht in the bank, NON O Retirement visa with 800,000 baht in the bank, NON OA Retirement visa with 800,000 baht in the bank plus health insurance. You can apply online at the Royal Thai Embassy in London or just enter Thailand visa exempt for 30 days then change your visa at the immigration in Hua Hin.
@@rockettravels1977 You should be careful, too many entries into Thailand using tourist visas, one day you may get refused entry. You will be much better off using a NON O Multi Entry visa.
Safe trip buddy. The weather is mediocre at best here, so make the most of the warmth over there ! Lots of the places around where you live look gorgeous. Bangkok definitely isn’t for me by the looks of it. Keep up the good work, super cool 😎
Same here mate, I also visited Trailfinders on Kensington High Street ( it’s still there ) 23 years ago to book my first visit to Bangkok, plus the Bel-Aire Princess on Soi 5 was also my hotel…. Unfortunately Soi 5 is a shit hole now, nothing like it was back then, there was a nice restaurant at the bottom of the Soi but it’s now a ugly weed shop… did you ever visit Check-Inn 99 Bar ( between Soi 5 & Soi 7 ) that’s sadly closed also 👍🍻🇹🇭🇬🇧
I've been to Thailand 6 times and only once spent a night in Bangkok and that was to go and see the famous Khao san Road. Unfortunately for me I found out that it was suited to a much younger crowd that I belong to (57 years old/young). Most of the activities there entail getting drunk, stoned, high, tatooed etc. All of which I have grown out of. On my next trip there I want to stay a bit longer as I know I am missing out on the experience of a facinating city. Thanks for sharing your experience. Good luck in The UK!
I remember landing in Singapore in 1997 late at night, blurry eyed, getting to the hotel and falling asleep. Then I woke up a few hours later and opened the curtains to see the most amazing sight! (London didn’t have skyscrapers then) and like you I jumped on the bed with excitement 😆. I grabbed my Lonely Planet book and set off for adventures! The culture shock was a shock! I think we were lucky not to have You Tube, Google and mobiles, it was much more fun!l🤩 That’s a proper adventure.
Great Vlog very refreshing! Ah! Rocket Man you take me back, as a young (Irish Man ) I always wanted to Water Ski, so off I goes to Europe for a month Waterskiing, But after a Week, my Mother was Horrified to see me at Da Door, No crutches no bandages!!! What Happened She asks ! I tried Mother but I couldn’t find a Lake with a Slope😊👍
I booked my round the world flights in Kensington high street 33 years ago, straight to Pattaya and the Green bottle A-C pub (gone now) and the culture shock was a lady winking at me while she was with another guy who was about to fly home whilst I was undergoing the floating feeling or sensory conflict from the turbulent long haul flight.
Jimmy Long shop is fell more steps . I’m friend with him . This shop you went in is his daughter running so Jimmy doesn’t tattooing in this shop:) He start working after 10:00pm . Go and see him and say hi from Roman - he will be super surprised 🤣
A question, don't feel you have to answer though mate. Do you have a circle of friends in Thailand outside of the boss? Just wondered if you ever worry about becoming isolated I guess. Probably because it's the kind of worry that pangs at me and stops me making big steps.
It seems that you've not long ago returned from the old dart. I really enjoyed your Lao trip recently - in fact as a result of your vlog there - I've booked myself a trip in October. Have a good flight back - hope all goes well for you and free of hiccups. Take care mate... BTW: That's a big cock you've got out front there by the way! :)
You not staying on just to vote in election🤔, .... I can imagine it's not a bad feeling inside , good luck , I'm coming Jan wanna a see a bird ( feathered ) wintering 45 miles from hua hin so will pop to your local😊have a beer

Me and four friends arrived in Bangkok, November 1974, after travelling overland from London. Difficult to do that nowadays.
Wow what an adventure 😊😊😊

I have a mix of friends in Thailand Malaysia and Indonesia although I always travel solo I enjoy many freedoms and make new friends as I travel 😊
Don’t say never . Look what happened to steady Eddie!!!!
Never 😂
Good price for that room. Mini bars are famously overpriced. Just go down to 7/11 and stock up for a fraction of the cost.
Happy days 😊😊😊
Nice one Tony. Where/when/how did you meet The Boss?
