Ok here are some things we can learn:
- Don't feel like prebaking the base? Make it so thin it cooks in the oven with the filling!
- Miso (or other pastes) is a great addition into your crust flavor
- A blowtorch can save your shell

That was my thought too! I screamed when Zach threw his directly on the pie crust without some kind of barrier!!!! I thought they would melt like Keith's did (although that was probably just the butter from his crust leaking out)
I'm disappointed we didn't get to see how that played out! I thought for sure the judges would be spitting out the weights!
When I saw that I was like NOOO add some parchment paper first then add those pie weights onto the parchment and then pre bake … surprised none of those balls got stuck into their pie 😅

i think the issue with Keith's pie crust was too much butter that came up like a pool, plus neither Kwesi nor Zach baked it enough, both looked fairly undercooked. So that could be the reason idk
i doubt they even knew to do that, they probably jsut put them straigth in without any weights or pre baking
