Let me know if you have tried all of these brush strokes! If you enjoyed this video try this one next: How To Start Watercolor Painting (10 Starter Colors!) th-cam.com/video/L77Ls00fHwY/w-d-xo.html
I've found myself directing the watercolor table at an after-school art workshop for elementary kids. I realized quickly I needed to keep things moving, interesting, and teach fundamentals so I didn't have to watch a bunch of brushes meet a sad, grisly death. Your brushstroke tutorials have given me so much material to introduce! (I admittedly need these as well, refining a lifetime of instinctual habits!) Thank you for your generosity!
Finally, a beginners series that helps teach us the basics thank you. I was also glad to hear you say that “splatters” can be overused. I’ve noticed that in my viewing of videos. They’ll have a perfectly lovely painting and then diminish its impact with splatters. Cheers!
I have watched many of your videos over a period of time. However, like any other 70 year old, some information I learned earlier fades, so I refresh my mind by re-watching one of your tutorials. I am pleased that I watched it entirely because I saw at the end the technique for pulling paint off with the brush (here it was on a leaf) which looks so much simpler than layering it with different shades. Little things mean a lot. Thank you again.
I have taken 4 watercolor classes but have learned more - so much more - from your videos than any of those classes! Your way of teaching is so practical and so clear I feel I have finally found out the hidden secrets of watercolor painting. Thank you so much. Now I will check out how Patreon works.
I did some oil painting back in 70s but now that I am in small apart I want a hobby that does not smell nor use much space with added bonus of down-to-earth, easy instructions. I’ve hit the bullseye by learning to dabble in watercolours with you! Gros merci.
I always try to leave a comment, good of you to keep reminding us how to help your channel, as you help us so tremendously! I lóve your channel and learn so much from you, thx so much!!
Love your tips Michelle! I teach basic WC at retirement home and I often refer the residents to your web site. I must remind them to give you a thumbs up!
You are very organised and generous with the information you teach. Im binge watching some old videos so that I can be a bit practised... Im preparing to buy a course. Very excited. Thank you for all your hard work.
I'm new at watercolors, having switched from pastels. I have been watching your videos religiously and find them easy to follow and a wonder of information. Thank you for helping me make this transition fun and far less taxing. Bravo to you.
well, I went ahead and finally did it. I yelled at you as you are providing yet more awesome information about watercolor painting. yell may seem like a harsh word, but I really just meant in terms of raising my voice and having an intense emotion. What I said was “ seriously woman, you have got to stop making these videos so packed full of information because my brain is ready to explode but I’m not gonna stop and write stuff down because I’m learning too much.“ Have you ever considered writing a book? I’m serious. I hope you don’t actually have a book and I just don’t know about it. Lol.
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber but my old brain has trouble remembering it all. But you know what? I bet you already know this, but we’d actually probably learn much better if we actually just watched and did it along with you and took the class rather than just reading about it right? Yeah you’re right as usual lol.
Hi Michelle! Thank you very much for the video. I’m fairly new to watercolor and sort of working backwards in learning technique. That’s just how I roll. 😄 Your tutorial helped me with splattering because I usually get it everywhere where I DONT want. The two-toned is very pretty as well.
wanted to take break from painting...came across this video...found it v useful....I enjoyed the double colour stroke....v useful for leaves with double colour and parallel venation....thanks Michelle...a good video as always
As always Michele this video is very useful. I really like the two colors on the brush at once. Thx again. 🥰. I hope you get to 25000 for Christmas. 🍀🥰🍀
Very very useful watercolor instruction. I am a very curious gal, thus I especially appreciate that you thoroughly explain why certain applications will not work well, as well as what will work. I have already learned so much from you and hope to learn lots more. I have used the 2 color on one brush technique with acrylic paints, but now that you have demonstrated this with watercolors, I can't wait to try it. Thank you. XOXOJane
I've been at this for less than a year and am finding your videos so clear and helpful! I've subscribed to your channel and will be back again and again, even re-watching your teachings. Thank you! I'm gleaning so much which is so helpful!!
Yes this was a huge help because now I know what the actual names of the various brush strokes I have been doing all this time. I really didn’t think that you could do what I call the Bob Ross stroke two colors with watercolor paint. I have watched him paint since the 1980s. I am definitely going to have to get your Mini Watercolor Rose tutorial a try now. Can not wait to give it a try during this week! Thanks for sharing your knowledge of watercolor painting with us.
Thank you...very helpful. I’ve only just discovered your videos, as I just started watercolour painting a few months ago. Its lovely to have a British artist on TH-cam! I particularly like how detailed you are, the lifting out for instance i can see will really work so much better now i understand how its done properly!
This was so useful. I went to a local watercolor class at our art gallery. It is a great class, but I realized in attending that there is a lot of knowledge that is assumed that new attendees may have. Brushstrokes are among those things. With a group of adults at various stages, from brand new like me, to people who have been attending for a while or who have dabbled in the hobby before, I am sure it is hard for the instructor to touch on everything. . . I am so glad I came across your videos on TH-cam. I plan to watch you weekly and soak in as much as I can. Thank you so much!
Thank you once again Michelle! I always seem to learn from any & all of your videos. I'm having more "couch days" than I'd like lately. Hoping it's due more to the weather than my cancer 😁 The videos & taking notes are helping me to feel somewhat productive though! GOD bless you!
Thank you for this interesting video. I learned more brush strokes and can't wait to try them out. First I ha e to find an old toothbrush and a wide flat brush.
Thank you, Michelle, for some very useful tips. Maybe you could also do a video on brush strokes for various leaves, twigs etc.? It would be very helpful. I'm not any good but like painting just for enjoyment and relaxation. 💙💙💙
Thank you so much, Michele! My daughter started coming over for me to watch painting projects from videos. She surprised me for my late December birthday with a variety of painting mediums. I didn't know about these techniques but then I've just started up at 69!! I'm watching so many of your videos. I've always turned my sketching mistakes into something delightful, now with the watercolor mistakes, I'll have to figure things out!! Thank you for your encouraging emails with a youtube video!!!
Thank you Michelle for your generous teaching heart for these techniques 💗! Your style encourages me to pick my brush up, not just my butt 😂, and paint again! i've been a subscriber while trying to find my focus on having a painting routine - and having your notif bell on somehow helps remind me of my mission 😘!
Excellent explanation of how to do paint splatter, thank you! I was getting paint EVERYWHERE after seeing paint splatter shown in a beginner watercolor class and wasn't sure why they thought it a good idea to show beginners this technique. Now with your demo and explanation even beginners (like me) can keep the paint where it is intended it to go!
Thank you so much for doing this. Yours is the only channel I have found that tells me exactly how to get started with the basics that I need to learn before starting to actually make a painting. I like the fact that you not only demonstrate a technique, but also tell us how and why it is used.
Thank you michele for sharing your techniques I've only started watercolour painting in the last year or so having suffered a stroke ,your videos have given me loads of inspiration ,take care and thanks againxx
It's an old Acrylic brush, not sure of the composition, I would suspect synthetic as it has degraded. I do not buy animal hair brushes, but it's possible I have some as I have aquired many that were gifted to me.
Thanks Michele greatly for sharing your informative video on brush strokes, as always I can see things that help me to achieve greater detail in my paintings. Thanks greatly appreciated stay safe
Thank you for this demonstration, Michele. All of these techniques are new to me, as I am new to watercolor. I am currently painting a picture that includes a wooden bench, and I’m especially excited to try the dry brush technique to give the wood a more textured and rustic appearance. Very helpful!
This was very useful thanks. Also good to see the comparisons of the splattering technique, I do like the toothbrush version and I really liked the dried brush sparkle technique.
This was a fabulous tutorial. So helpful! Really appreciate your clear and precise directions and demonstrations. I knew a little about some of these strokes, but i did not know about three or four of them. Thank you so much!
Thanks for these informative videos , I learn a lot from you. I especially enjoy colour mixing videos as I’m trying to use as few colours as I can but create a whole range. Merry Christmas 😀
This was helpful. Now I see why the 2 colors on one brush didn't work for me... paint too wet. I'm very new so still very awkward with controlling the amount of water on my paper, etc. Your videos help a lot.
