Excellent video! We also have Bactrian camels with double humps in the cold desert of Ladakh, India of all places, especially in the Hunder area, part of the old Silk Road. The locals also fallow the Gelugpa sect of Buddhism as in Tibet.

This was so interesting, Eli. We are watching from Calgary, Canada. It was -30C last week (-45 C with windchill), very arid, and +30C in the summer. Sounds a bit like Kalmykia!
The introduction of the burning spring was so simple you cant believe how big of a deal that is! how come nobody is around the spring all the time....The man is all rounded and rooted always loves to see a cultured Man.
As long as the arms merchants make money off wars, they will always want to frame somebody as the evil meanie nation. Then conned citizens will go along with the next nutty war, imagining it is a heroic civil duty to make oil barons richer and richer while spending billions on weapons and ammunition and funerals. When it is convenient to describe Russia as a friend (World War I and World War II) that is the story. When money can be made fighting Russia, that is the story (Cold War and now). Either way it is propaganda as convenienced by the moment. In a few years the story will change back again. Then reverse again after that. Learn from history and you can predict the future. Try reading Orwell's book "1984."
This is absolutely amazing and very educational, I never knew that about “Ura” though we use the word too. 😯 That man throat chanting gave me strong The Hu vibes (Mongol band which makes sense I guess). Love this series, although Elina’s vlogs are generally so good, the Russian travels hit differently somehow, maybe because the other places (in Europe, Asia or Australia) are more familiar and less shrouded in mystery like these RF republics are.❤
No offense to the Kalmyk people, but all peoples like to take credit for some discovery or say that it first appeared among them. Regarding the cry "Ura" ", the main versions of the appearance are completely different
Buryatia is another region of Russia I find very fascinating. I know you covered this region a lot in many videos, Eli but this area fascinates me a lot. I love the national costumes and festivals of this region.
Kalmyks are very similar to Mongolians in terms if culture. And Mongolians are super close to Buryats, their languages are pretty close. Back in the early 1920s they were considered the same people. I'm from Irkutsk oblast, Buryats live there traditionally. My best friends in high school were Buryat girls.
All your videos are well masteted and beautiful to watch. This was maybe one of the most interestingI definitely enjoyed it. Keep doing. Tkx from China.
May you have a safe and adventurous white road, thank you for taking us on your journey of exploration of people and culture. It''s definitely not the russia we learn about and shows a diversity that few other countries have Stay safe
Hi Eli! It must be recognized that these Republics, in which nomadic peoples and people of other religions live, have many things to teach. First I noticed the importance of knowing the Russian language because, knowing this language, allows you to communicate with any ethnic people of Russia, therefore, go anywhere in Russia. Knowing Russian is also useful for traveling by speaking to the local people you visit and having interactions with them, otherwise it doesn't seem like a journey, but a simple sterile transit through any Russian place. I would like to drink the drinks you described in the video because they sound very interesting and great. Furthermore, I don't know Russian drinks, apart from vodka, but they really attract my curiosity and I think they are very special. It is equally wonderful to see and listen to these emigrants from Mongolia with their traditional clothes, songs and music that seem to have stopped time many centuries ago. I really appreciate that people like them, in such an advanced world, have made the choice not to abandon their ancient customs and, as a livelihood, continue to be shepherds, taking their sheep and camels to graze on the Russian steppes which are lost as far as the eye can see. I wonder how good the products they produce will be through the milk of these animals or the processing of their meat. It amazed me and I understood the guttural sound because they do it. It is a sound that surely only Kalmyks can make and it would be interesting to hear choirs of Kalmyk singers in plays or operas. Kalmuchya may seem like a cold and uninhabited Republic, but if people so rich in customs and traditions live there, you can most likely become attached to such a place. I thank you for having brought us to know this other Republic and its wonderful people and I greet you and hug you. 😊
@francescocursio....I like your explanation as to the use of the Russian language by ethnic minorities. By mastering the official language they avoid being second-class citizens and further get exposed to the whole world as in this vlog. This is a wise decision, Russian is a powerful international language, What I find interesting is that even larger national groups such as Chechens, Tatars, Buriats, Degastanis and others speak fluently Russian. Kazakhstan is an independent country yet Russian is their official language.
There is certainly a certain importance in knowing the Russian language because in addition to communicating with 145 million Russians, you can also communicate with the people of all the nations that were part of the former USSR. This is not the only importance, it is also the fact that you can travel in the largest country in the world, therefore, knowing the Russian language breaks down those mental borders for which it acts as a passport to go anywhere in Russia and speak with any Russian and we must remember that in Russia English is not that well known, therefore, in some places knowing English is totally useless.
All education in Russia is in Russian. In republics you will have 1-2 lessons of the language of the Republic in a week too. No mater you are Russian, Kalmyk, Mari, Sami, Tatar, etc.
I think it's amazing how these ethnic groups continuing to live their traditions shows how their cultures are not frozen in the past but rather continue to exist and evolve today. I agree with you about how special it is that Kalmyk people have the ability to sing in their blood as they share the spirit of the animals!!
I do love a nice Bactrian camel. The milk is not my favorite, though! The steppe reminds me of Saskatchewan! A wonderful video -- keep these pictures of diverse Russia coming!
It is so heartwarming to see these beautiful simple creative sensitive people from Russia. What a contrast to arrogant, aggressive West. Thank you for your videos ...
Thank you very much Eli for this video which was really fantastic, as it is so interesting to know how this people live, but also instructive. Wow! The only Buddhist republic in Europe! Great people and great Eli, very brave to face frozen temperatures!❤⭐️❤️
Thank you Eli, that was wonderful. I have seen the wild roaming Feral Dromedary camel here is Australia but have not seen the Batraian camel in their wild home. I loved the throat singing a huge lot too.
p.s. I follow another source out of Russia that also does throat singing, and I’m sure you’re familiar with them, the Siberian indigenous folk-rock-jazz fusion group Otyken. They are doing a lot to preserve and revive their culture. A piece where you visit with them when you get up Krasnoyarsk way would be a great treat.
Loved this ! You have a great way of making people feel like they are there with you. I’ve learned so much about so many different cultures and regions by watching you.
Interesting to have a strong Mongol based culture so far west. Did not know Kalmycia was a western region Mongols stayed and their culture endured. Right next door to the Caucus and just above Iran. Russia truly is highly diverse with the good thing cultures have been conserved similar to their ancient heritage. So windy there - and then so hot in the summertime. I might try the tea but don't like the sound of it. Your presentations are greatly appreciated - Thank You. My guess is you are going up the Volga River in your next travels.
Thanks, magic country. To me, anyway, I live in a "busy" area, many mountains, but I think best & most widely when I visit the plains. Please keep your videos coming, the are greatly appreciated.
Again a great video, who sows us a unique and not well known side of Russia. It is so fascinating , great landscape interesting people and your editing is very good.. Watching your videos is like being an explorer.
Thank you Eli. I appreciate the sacrifices you make to bring to light the furthest places, and a better understanding of the many different peoples and cultures in the vast unknown. An unknown which is in darkness and would remain unknown were it not for the illuminating videos you share. You are an ambassador for people who have no ambassador to speak for them in far away places. This makes what you are doing significant, and important. Keep on doing what you do so well. Your report on the Buddhist Mongol people of Kalmykia, is a source of knowledge and inspiration. One thing I would caution you about though... Be very careful of being near fire when you are wearing clothing made of synthetic materials like polyester. When you put your hands into the burning methane gas fire and hot spring water, I was concerned by the danger that the jacket you were wearing could catch fire and leave you with severe skin burns. I'm relieved nothing like that happened. Wishing you all the best, and wide white roads in your future. Sincerely, Jan.

This is a wise decision, Russian is a powerful international language,
What I find interesting is that even larger national groups such as Chechens, Tatars, Buriats, Degastanis and others speak fluently Russian.
Thank you! 😃👍
Не единственная, в России еще Республика Бурятия. Россия Евразия.
Люблю вас калмыки вы прекрасный народ .
I have never seen such beautiful camels. Really amazing.
Even so, nine out of ten doctors who tried camels switched, back to women.

Omg...fire and water..I love mother Russia...I need to go this place! This sound open and relax all chakras
Hi Eli, Amazing Budism in Rassia! Europeians, Mongols, Natives, Turkes, Chines etc. Rassia Mix Pot!
Magnifique vidéo comme d'habitude. Merci.
Respect to Kalmyk people!
Thanks, magic country. To me, anyway, I live in a "busy" area, many mountains, but I think best & most widely when I visit the plains. Please keep your videos coming, the are greatly appreciated.
Wonderful video. I love how you find very interesting people to interview and learn from. Keep up your wonderful work, Eli!
The mesmerizing beauty of nature and amazing people. Thanks, Eli!❤
Great video, very interesting interviews and those camels are way bigger than any Bactrian I've seen.
Sending love from Merritt Island, Florida.❤️
Thanks so much for your uploads, Eli. I'm British and I really like discovering Russia through your videos. Take care, and stay happy and healthy.
