I literally do this while making tea 😄 Somewhere back in the day I picked up the idea that this would help my tight CMT calves - I think I'd seen it recommended for runners. I imagine other people can take a much longer step back so it's encouraging to see a fellow CMTer who does a small step like me.. we have to start where we are and do what we can! Now if I could just work on the habit of doing this *every* day 😏

Yoga, yoga, yoga, people. I have CMT and that's what I do. It helps balance, gait and prevention of stiffness.

So glad you've found a form of exercise that works for you! Yoga is wonderful!

I started doing yoga a couple of months ago, my hands hurt a lot when I do it but I could finally stretch my legs and fingers! Now I’ve stopped a couple of weeks and already all the work I did is gone. I might start again. My back pain was also gone. Stretching feels really good for people with CMT and is super important, you are right🌸

Yes you absolutely should start up the yoga again or Pilates, however gentle it is it will absolutely help the equilibrium of the body and the strength of the muscles, flexibility improvement. ;-)

Fantastic advice, I'd add in to deep breathing with this stretch too, deep breaths in and slowly out, can really encourage the blood flow to the muscles/tendons and help relax the body into the stretch thus making it more effective. Thanks.

Great suggestion, thank you! I really need to incorporate deep breathing more in my day.

This is literally my favorite and most "let go of tension" stretch I do in a day. You go from stretching in bed and getting charlie horses to this and the amount of relief is just amazing

Thank for sharing this Bethany! I have CMT, and I am trying to do more of these stretches in my daily routine.

Thanks for these videos, often find that people with various conditions offer the best advice!
I can't really do that stretch as it hurts my foot/ankle. I do a modified version though using a power band which I find great. You can do a straight leg stretch and a bended knee stretch which target both calf muscles. Arthritis has developed in both ankles so looks like I'm going to go down the fusion road, strangely looking forward to it in a way as it should really help longer term.

Thank you for sharing your experience and what works for you! I so hope your fusion is successful and eases your pain.

Thank you! I’m going to put a sticky on my mirror as a reminder to do this while I’m brushing my teeth!

Funny how a lot of us eventually realize this stretch feels good and start doing it. I also do it while making coffee, brushing my teeth etc.😂

Breathe consciously and deeply whilst doing so and it will also make a huge difference to the quality and feel of the stretch ;-)

Thanks for the tip Bethany. How is your knee doing?

    • @BethanyMeloche
      @BethanyMeloche  3 ปีที่แล้ว

It's... getting there! Much longer recovery than expected. Ended up needing a cortisone injection which helped immensely (the hoffa's fat pad had become impinged). Now the biggest challenge is rebuilding muscle/balance after all those months on my sofa!
Thanks for asking Dan :-) Hope you're well!!

      @@BethanyMeloche You're welcome - and I'm doing okay.
The frustration of CMT while rebuilding after an injury is so maddening. I walked too much for an exercise regimen I was testing. My failure to diligently check my legs/feet afterwards caused a sore to appear from my AFO. (That whole fun-filled neuropathy deal.) No serious walking for me until I can get that healed.

Does anyone have any tips for cold, sweaty, feet and hands? I think its due to my bad circulation to those areas from cmt. Not sure but its almost unbearable. I can usually warm them up for a bit, bit they never stop sweating. 😢

Oh how frustrating! I'd google "hyperhidrosis treatments" and see if any ideas might apply!
