I was born and raised only about 2 miles from Belle Isle and my Dad starting taking me fishing there ever since I was only 2 years old, that was in 1958. Lot of good memories there. The deer that were there at that time were European fallow deer, and there were a lot of them. You could feed them right from your hand. I saw the band Foghat on the island, I've ice skated, I fished, I partied, I went to the Zoo, I went to the Aquarium, I've been to the Museum, the Terrarium, the Big slide, the Fountain, fed the ducks and the geese, so very much. In the later days I worked for C.A.R.T and I worked the first of many car races on the Island after it moved from Down Town Detroit. It saddens me to see how the city looks now, with many of the neighborhoods I lived in and hung around in all burnt to the ground or empty. But my good memories will live on forever. Thanks For The Video
It used to be a tradition to go to Belle Isle after dark in the winter to look at the deer. As I got older I told some friends about it and they all thought I was crazy because none of them knew there was deer on the island. One Christmas Eve I talked a bunch of them in to go down to see the deer. While driving around they all continued to make fun of me. As we rounded a bend in the road that lead through the woods we came across a large portion of the herd. It had to easily been 200 deer. I watched all my friends freeze and just stare out the windows like little children in amazement. They rarely doubt me now when it comes to odd and little known facts about Detroit.
I remember when we was kids in the late 80s early 90s on Belle Isle on that big metal slide that you slid down on potato sacks a kid stood up and tried to surf down and he wiped out and he got the HUGEST friction burn his whole right side of his body legs and arm skin was gone down to the white meat I was shocked it looked beyond painful
This is a very nice production. The close ups of plants are stunning. I was eager to see more wide-photographed scenery. I would have liked to have learned way more historical events and local lore of Belle Island. If the music of Jack Francis and Lamasset are for sale I would like to know where?

It's now 2018 and Belle Isle is better than it has been in years!!!

Never thought of Belle Isle in the terms expressed by the narrator.
Belle Isle was once called Hog Isle, not too long before humans polluted it.
Before that it was snake isle
Nice video, but it shows nothing the island has to offer. Should have named it insects and the habitat of belle isle...
Nature
so good. I remember swimming in the zoo when I was a kid.
I was there for a wedding in August. It's a shit hole.
