I had one of these yesterday, well 3 of them actually. Major pain. I did figure out the “1 step down” thing but when I got to putting in #’s 4 and 5 the rule did not seem to apply. I had calls stacked up and had already been fighting with some things on that job. I ended up running with 4 cylinders on each one. I made sure I included the spool pins but man I don’t like those.
A locksmith came and replaced my pins. It looked like he damaged the cover as he had a tough time getting it out. Two days later it does not work and the door is locked. How do you get the door open to fix it?
So mine looks exactly the same except at the top of the pins instead of a holder they all have individual hex set screws over each pin.. theres also one place that looks like itshould be the release but it no budgey.. removed all the pins and springs so everything spins freely but the cylinder still will not release..
yeah, its a Locksmith "rule of the Thumb" if you dont have the key gauge and the key you are using is just any that fit the keyway, and reusing your "loose pins" from your bin.
My man. You just helped me out big time for a side job. Couldn't seem to get it but it was one step down on each cut. Thank you!
You can also buy those caps. I keep a couple on the truck. But good idea with the screen edging.

just fixed a profile cylinder I had on my bench for the longest time :) forgot the depths were 1 off.

Hi Wayne, the screen spline in what thickness?
Smart hack on the replacement pin stack cover. The plastic ones almost always crumble when removing them.

Yeah. These locks are a pain in the ass. 😂
