    I bought second-hand an older VW Caddy built in 2010 with the 1.9L TDi engine. Use it for my handyman business, and it has been an absolutely fantastic little van. It has made me think quite seriously that when I get around to having a family, I will get the passenger version which will be much better for carrying prams, shopping, etc.

    we have the 1.6 TDI 2012 Maxi, 7 seat version here in Taiwan. we absolutely love it. nimble as a mountain goat on our windy, narrow mountain roads, it has a great deal of cargo/passenger space, and yet is narrow enough for our single-lane roads, as well as not too high for our underground parking lots. "versatile" doesn't adequately describe how useful this vehicle is. I never tire of driving it!

    Great review, with lots of very useful information that other reviewers don't address. I'm trying to get a secndhand 2017-2020 SWB life model. In very short supply in the UK it seems.

    Does anybody know if you can buy the foldable matras separately? The one that comes with the Beach version (28:00). It seems to just click into place and it seems to fit normal versions as well?

    i like the first one . a good combination for people and cargo versatility. i have a 1990 Plymouth Voyager and the Caddy is the closest one i have seen yet . the all around equal usability is just like what i have now . i also like that it is a vw . the body styling is well setup for the purposes it will cover to the look ,just like what i have now . looks like one i would want in my driveway in the future .

    Thanks a lot for this review. Enjoyed very much. I'm looking for a vehicle for a one-year-road-trip through Europe with my girlfriend and son (toddler). We will be pulling a caravan and need sufficient luggage-space. I first thought the maxi would be best, but then I saw this video and maybe the normal version would be sufficient when we take out the duo-seat in the back. What are your thoughts on our needs for this trip? Is it comfortable enough? Is it spacious enough? ... And what engine would you recommend for pulling a caravan?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Giorgo De Groof thanks! Very interesting project! I am really interested in that one. Indeed already the normal version offers plenty of space for 2-3 people. I would go for the Maxi with 2 kids, but for 1 kid that should be enough if you take the normal version. For caravan pulling I would go for one of the bigger Diesels! When do you want to do this trip ?

    You even manage to make a video about a car such as this interesting and entertaining. It is good you mention those doors. Volkswagen have a thing with the door quality and have don for years. You should maybe mention about the forged steel hinges that literally no one else uses and the laser seam welding on the roof, all adds to that solid chunk. Even the new Mercedes doors feel and sound horrible really.

    Here in Mexico we only have the maxi with a 110hp petrol non turbo manual. Do you think it would have enough power ? also what is the ground clearance ?.New it costs $16 k at summer 2017.its a bargain.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      would be enough power when you dont drive fully loaded.

    Thankyou Thomas, very useful review.
    My wife and I are looking for a vehicle that we can easily transport 2 full size road bicycles (2 metres in length, and 1.2m tall) in side-by-side, and are considering one of the Maxi versions. We intend to keep this car for a long time, so would like a good standard of finish in the cab. Although we do occasionally take a third or fourth passenger, this is not the top priority. The Maxi Life may be the answer, although the third set of seats are totally unnecessary for us. Also, we live in London, so would definitely prefer petrol driven. Any advice?
    Derek.

    Can you tell us where this is manufactured? Just curious.

    The maxi version does not seem to add to the 2nd row legroom. At least that was my impression when i tried it. If this had electric sliding doors it would be a killer for me.

      VW should sell this van in North America. It would be a great Uber or Lift Vehicle. Small, compact, easy to get in and out of, and of course its a VW so it will drive nice. Americans would love to be able to buy the Full VW line.

    For the private use i would prefer the classic Hatchback/Liftgate/Rearflap Door, because u can stand under it in the rain, maybe good while camping.
    For working use i would choose the split doors, because u can only with splitdoors load/unload the caddy with a forklift and an euro-pallet will fit in it... great car! :-)

    I do think it will win a design price. Found the comment strange anyway - compare to other Hochdach Kombies like from Renault or Mercedes for example is the design smooth and smart.
    I do know that some car designer have problems doing a design different to a sports coupe and I think that is stupid. Can't believe that consumers actually request compromised head rome and loading space for a dynamic roof line. Maybe some car tester like it.

    • @autogefuehl

      Arnd san Thanks for the feedback - always good to have the discussion. You know I also bring facts, experience and also my own opinion - which is welcome to be different to others :)

      ***** I see, but still think that this is a ver unlucky entry for a review. You actually don't tell us what the ugly part of the car actually is.
      I found that most of the VW cars this days become a bit conservative and it's seems that there is no space some freedom in design. The Caddy got a refreshing shape, clear forms and a uncluttered interior. I would wish for other cars. What exactly you don't like at the design? ...to start the discussion.

    I'm not too into the car world (when it comes to knowing things) but I think it's funny how the front looks almost the same as other cars from Volkswagen. Their cars got very boring to me...
