    When I first started using my new jackhammer, I was getting the bit stuck. I found that it's fairly easy to remove if you disconnect the jackhammer from the bit, then bang on the bit from the side with a regular hammer it loosens up pretty quick.

    Fun fact that button you pressed for the light makes the jack hammer weaker. It doesn’t hit as hard. We use those at work for small spaces but we use the big 70lbs hammers that you said came on a cart.

    Thanks for the vid. I will be chipping up a first floor concrete bathroom floor to extend the drain. I understand your point about not using the point in the middle and to try to start on the edges, my question is what do you use to make the initial break in the concrete?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi C Murph, just start at any edge and stay in a concentrated area. The vibrations from the hammer will create a crack, then just work from there. Good luck!

      Will this break for joists if being used on the second floor? Is there a better option or will the smaller demo tools not get the job done? About 2" thick 5'x10' area

    • @theobserver9131
      @theobserver9131 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tilt the hammer a little so the chips move up instead of sideways. The initial hole is a little bit slow, but be patient. The bigger the hole gets, the easier it gets.

      I am pretty much crippled with a crushed disc in my back, but with a little bit of ingenuity and learning to use your body differently it can be done. I'm in the middle of installing drain tile and a pump in a wet basement. It's slow going but I'm not in a hurry. We purchased a demo hammer instead of renting one so there's no timeline.
      I sit on a low chair and transfer the weight to my knees so it totally skips my back.

  • @jamestricker3741
    @jamestricker3741 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, but a few things missing:
    *STURDY BOOTS
    I'll let you decide if you think a task needs steel toe cap boots (risk of crushing or cutting the toe area), but I can't imagine doing a task like that wearing trainers. Slip resistance, better footing and a much lower chance of twisting ankles are all good reasons to wear a solid boot.
    *OVERALLS
    Dust is horrible. Disposable overalls mean your clothes aren't dusty. This helps manage the risk of inhaling dust later in the day. Denim overalls also provide a modicum of abrasion resistance: if a pebble kicks up and catches your skin it'll bruise and cut, rather than scratching your body up.

    • @theobserver9131
      @theobserver9131 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not found that any part of small scale concrete demo is threatening to my feet. I feel perfectly safe in my sneakers. Just don't go crazy. It is nice to get the dusty clothes off when you're done.

      @@jamestricker3741 the only risk I see to the feet in this situation, is dropping the jackhammer on your foot. But I don't think anyone who is that clumsy should even be attempting this. You claim that I like to risk my health, that claim is completely unsubstantiated. What makes you think you know what I like and don't like?

    Can this be used in the horizontal position? I want to demo my cistern.

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey Joeskis,
      Yes. This one would work horizontally, but if that’s your plan, I hope you spend a lot of time in the gym - it’s a workout. Best bet is to go to a rental place and check it out. See how heavy it feels to you and how many hours of work you think are in front of you.
      A smaller model may be easier on the arms but move slower - kind of a trade off.

    • @theobserver9131
      @theobserver9131 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can rig something up to suspend it, to hold the weight, just make sure that you can still move it around.

      Hi Robert, the project we were working on was to remove a massive 4 story stone fireplace and chimney, so we definitely needed all the power that the demo hammer could generate. A less powerful tool would work for smaller jobs. Thanks for the comment!
