    correction: the cable length will be fixed in their new generation (v4) of superchargers
    tesla charging cables being short makes me think of the rumored caveat to apple's usb c compliance [ie. only allowing high speed data transfers on approved usb c cables]. just compliant enough to reap the benefits, but not compliant enough to actually be consumer friendly

    • @waynelewis9110
      @waynelewis9110 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might want to look more into the company’s charging plans instead of making damning claims like this. Tesla’s V4 charging stalls will have longer cables. The first one has been installed in the Netherlands, and they will begin installing them in North American markets soon. V4 stalls will be able to accommodate all EVs, even the ones that have absolutely ridiculous charging port locations.

      @@waynelewis9110 I don't follow Tesla news much so I wasn't aware they were planning to release a new generation of superchargers. I (wrongfully) assumed this was as far as they were going to go in terms of allowing other cars to access the network

      The CCS spec is for 500A, so when a Tesla can charge at 250kW, it's 25% above the 200kW implied maximum of 400V. A longer cable might complicate things even further.

    • @hiddendrifts
      @hiddendrifts ปีที่แล้ว

      @@virtual-viking i don't think the cable length will be increasing enough to cause the complications you're thinking of... maybe if it were increased by miles or kilometers, but definitely not by feet

      @McFred1065 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@virtual-viking How are you doing "the math" in this case to convert the CCS 500A spec to the 400V? (200kV-A / 400V) ? If so, why would u think a larger cable, say by 10-15 feet, would impact the power received by the car battery? Probably there's got to be a self adjustment, either by the charger or the "smart" battery would know better or am I overestimating the "smartness" of either?

GM said they are not in the electric business others said similar.. Those companies screwed you not Tesla. Tesla chargers about the same as other chargers and charges less to Tesla customers.

    Gently Bently... Tesla would be foolish to open all stations instantly to non-Teslas - chaos. In cities, non-Teslas can find a charge point; in the sticks... not so much. As bugs are ironed out Tesla will no doubt open things up, gradually. It makes sense - it's another revenue stream for Tesla. And as we all know, the next generation chargers now being deployed have a much longer cable.

    It's just really sad that the Electrify America charging station was WORSE for the car built to use it whereas the one built exclusively for teslas worked more seamlessly and got you more KW/hr.
    I'm sorry. 8Kw/hr? that's just pathetic. Step up your game EA.

    • @McFred1065
      @McFred1065 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used Electrify, though I tried to stick to EVgo (Im in the east cost) with my Bimmer... So, 8Kw/hour was not accurate in general (probably that specific charger had a problem and creates more "drama" for this video )... anyway, the Tesla supercharging stations are more conveniently located and that's why I am researching how to do it. I don't even have the Tesla app yet installed on my iPhone, but I am gonna give it a try. Still, sometimes even to get juice for 15-20 mins feels to me so unconvenient... but I rush to buy this SUV.

    What kind of kable is this? It is not the common CCS standard. The big problem when charging a non-Tesla at a Tesla Supercharger is not the technic or the communication. It´ s their position. Mostly there are these stupid bumpers on the ground to protect the superchargers. But for BMW e.g. the cable is to short and you don ´ t get car close enough, when it is not a V4 charger.
