    Great job, Dominique!
    Thanks a lot for taking time to produce the video.
    OmegaT now supports files drag and drop, so you can add source files, TMX's and glossaries by dragging files to the appropriate panes and dropping them there.
    With the glossary, you could have saved it with an arbitrary name and it could have been recognized as the read-only reference glossary. You can have as many of those as you want.
    Also the autocompletion for glossary terms would pop up as soon as you start typing glossary term (its translation, of course).
    Glossary items can be created right from the Search window (Ctrl + Shift + G after selecting something in the search results).
    Tags can be inserted one by one by Ctrl + T

      Thanks, Kos, great comments! I did miss quite a few nice features. I’ll try to do a follow-up video showing the alternative (smarter) ways of doing things mentioned in your comments.

    Excellent tutorial! This is extremely clear and informative tutorial yet very simple to understand. I watch your video for only 10 min. and I can start my first OmegaT use with confidence. Thank you so much :)

    Thank you, very much, Dominique! I was trying to wrap my head around the software and simply couldn't! After this tutorial, it finally sounded doable.

    Nice video! You can also just hit "enter" to move to the next segment; ctrl + U is not necessary unless there are translated segments that you want to skip over and move to the next untranslated segment.

      Thanks, Susan! I’ll also mention this in my follow-up video, together with TransTips (as suggested by Didier on the Yahoo list).

    Where did you take tmx? How can I create it if I have none?

    • @CATguruEN
      @CATguruEN  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can create a TMX via alignment, for instance using LF ALigner or Wordfast Anywhere. I have made tutorial on both, check them!

    I'm new to this translator software, but it seems this is the one i need. A question about the translation memory feature of Omega-T. Can I build my own data base as I translate using the OmegaT? I have tons of translated materials in word document that I would like to enter into OmegaT so my future translations would be easier.

    • @CATguruEN
      @CATguruEN  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You will be able to build your translation memory as you translate new documents with OmegaT (the TM will be built as a side-product of the translation process). If you want to build TMs from already translated documents, you need to use an alignment tool. One such tool is LF Aligner. You can check my tutorial on it (th-cam.com/video/OtEQr0TawVA/w-d-xo.html).

    Hello, thanks for your video. I'm getting started on OmegaT. Is there a way to make it so the source segment does not disappear as I type Ctrl + U to conclude it? Could not find such a configuration. Thanks!

    Can you show an advanced example, where someone is quickly translating a longer text document using OmegaT? I am a translator and have never used this kind of software -- I think it could be useful to support more consistent translation of certain technical terms, but I can't tell if it will ever be easy to use it fast enough for it to really help.

    • @CATguruEN
      @CATguruEN  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The purpose of this video is to provide an overview of OmegaT and to let users compare it to other tools (as I have been following the same methodology, using the same sample material with many other similar tools such as Trados, Wordfast, memoQ etc.). It should be well suited for beginners. Translating a long document is no different from translating a shorter one, it just takes more time.

    Hey, nice vid. I´m starting with OmegaT and I have a question .How do you organize the windows(the project window, glossary window, etc. in the project? And also how do you add fyzzy matches window to have it visible while translating. It might sound like a stupid question, because it probably is, but I haven´t been able to do it.

    Hello Dominique... Great video, thank you. I have a question .. how do you work with special characters on a language, like punctuation or specific grammar in some languages like Spanish por example. Where you do the spell check?

    Hello Dominique,
    Which CAT tool would you recommend for quick translations?
    Sometimes I'm asked to translate only a few phrases or paragraphs and with OmegaT (my cat tool for daily use) this not very productive, since it requires to create a whole new project, and it builds a new TMX (which I have to merge with a previous one to avoid having hundreds of TMs with so little content).
    Thank you!

    • @CATguruEN
      @CATguruEN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have Microsoft Word, you could use Wordfast Classic. In demo mode, it supports TMs with up to 1000 translation units, which should be fine for many such small translations. You could keep the same TM for all these miscellaneous small translations and only export it and merge it with your OmegaT TM once in a while. Wordfast Classic glossaries are simple, tab-delimited text files, like in OmegaT.

    Thanks for this video. Does OmegaT perform machine translation?

    • @CATguruEN
      @CATguruEN  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, OmegaT can perform machine translation, if configured to do so. See my other videos (Windows: th-cam.com/video/wjOIlJaKR3c/w-d-xo.html, Mac: th-cam.com/video/Nuu34LdEeIM/w-d-xo.html), Note these videos were made in 2013, i.e. may not apply to the current situation / version of OmegaT. The general idea should still be valid, however.

    Thanks man! Have you used Trados? I'm beginning as a translator and I don't know if it's worth the investment vs libre tools.

    • @CATguruEN
      @CATguruEN  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I’ve used Trados. In fact, I have made a similar video tutorial about the 2015 version. Trados is the most widely used tool on the market, which is probably its main selling point. It’s a versatile, but also complex tool.

    Funny that the first video I watch about OmegaT is talking about a document in Finnish 😂
    Would anyone happen to know how to get a Finnish spellcheck to work, adding a dictionary in Preferences does nothing at all.

      Thanks for pointing this out! Unfortunately, TH-cam no longer makes it possible to annotate videos (it used to be possible in the past), so I can’t fix this in the video.
