    Daniil didn’t use choreo from the music video, he used an independent choreographer’s work without even asking for permission. That’s extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. You may not like the music or the choreography (I don’t like it either) but that doesn’t change the fact that what he did was pretty serious.

    • @ericawashington310
      @ericawashington310 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      exactly... and I don’t think it would’ve been that hard for Daniil to reach out and ask for permission to use it; she most likely would’ve said yes and this whole “plagiarism” scandal wouldn’t be as big as it is/was. It’s like saying that Medvedeva can use Alina’s “survivor” exhibition without getting any hate for it.

      Nenena sveks yes, Liza used almost all Britney’s chores but she’s not as well known as Alina is. I’m not saying that she’s (Liza)right for stealing the chores but the thing is that no mentioned it. The same rules apply to every skater and dancer but some people decide to pick and choose who they want the hate to go towards and that’s one of the problems I have with figure skating. You prolly didn't research much about the Bad Guy choreo plagiarism thing that happened. Jojo Gomez was an independent choreographer who did a whole choreography for a song on youtube, she's not that famous. So for Daniil to use exactly the choreography that she did on her own and take credit for it without even saying BEFORE that he got inspired by the dance video IS plagiarism. The choreography was shown in shows in Japan and televised with people thinking that was his own choreography because you know, unlike Gangnam Style or Backstreet Boys, this wasn't a dance made by a famous artist.

  • @readingnerd1
    @readingnerd1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    Re: Jojo, I don't agree that the situation is the same as doing the moonwalk or the YMCA those are famous moves from iconic songs. This is a relatively new song and the choreographer ( isn't the artist ) even with that many followers isn't exactly famous or a household name. She had every right to try to get some publicity because it wasn't just the moves he really just lifted the concept altogether. Publicity is currency in this modern world, why shouldn't she eat? He didn't credit her until she made the post and in 2019 I'm never going to fault a woman standing up for herself saying "hey that's my idea/work"... the fuss she made is the only reason she got the credit. Also, you don't have to like jojo work to respect her those ending comments were ugly and ironic as hell considering what people say about this show.

    I will say about the zagitova drama, though it may not legally break “copyright law” because I’m not sure she ever copyrighted those moves, but it’s a different situation than doing a Michael Jackson move or a Gangnam style thing. When you do those moves, everyone knows that it’s a tribute to those artists. Everyone recognizes where it comes from. The moves that zagitova did were not in the Billie eilish music video, they were the choreographer’s dance moves. It would have been a different situation if the moves had come from the music video and people recognized that it was a tribute to eilish but that’s not the case. It was more than shirt biting that zagitova did. The first 20 seconds and several other parts of the were also take from the video. Jojo specifically stated that she did not blame zagitova but daniil because he should have known better. I think the reason why jojo got so worked up was because she isn’t a highly known choreographer and she would have liked the opportunity to choreograph and go to Japan instead of having someone else use her moves. Yes it was a bit immature on her part but I don’t think her feelings are as “ridiculous” as you guys have made them to be. She’s definitely in her right to feel mad imo

    Kamila Valieva is miles ahead of Alysa, and I expect the JGP to go in her favor. Kamila has beautiful spins, great extension, and skates so much faster than Alysa. I may not like Eteri, but she knows how to package her juniors better than whatever the Americans are doing. Alysa is so slow and her jumps are so scary. I trust Kamila’s quad toe more than Alysa’s sketchy quad lutz.

    • @simtopia2334
      @simtopia2334 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alysa is a great great talent and i expect medals from her this season, but not only is slow and the rotation on her jumps is a bit cheated but i noticed the landing is also a bit like Radionova's jumps always with that free leg close to touch the ice which may become a big problem going forward. While Kamila Valieva looks already perfection: speed, skating skills, spins, transitions is all there, the only thing is that we haven't seen her quad toe in competition yet so we don't know how consistent that element is.

      @@maryelle1927 what a load of crap. i'm hearing how eteri haters repeating this bs over and over again. whenever it's skater that they don't like, then "bad technique" and other stuff are always an eteri's fault. they don't care if a skater just spent with eteri 2 months. everything bad that she's doing was teached by eteri. and if they are talking about the girl that they like, it's the other way around. all the good stuff is coming from some unknown genius. even 5 years with eteri is not enough to learn something.
      have you ever followed kamila career, prior to eteri? of course you don't. but i've actually followed her. so i can say with all honesty that you have not the slightest idea on the matter. kamila always was great artistically. but as a skater, before eteri she was hopeless. if someone told me 2 years ago that kamila will become number 1 in the russian junior team, and will be jumping quads, i would thought that the person is nuts. the girl was taking 15-17 places at local moscow competitions of her age.
      and i don't know what hamada have told you, but dudakov is an actual kudryavtsev student. he's in very close relationship with kudryavtsev and teaching the jumps the same way as viktor nikolaevich. kamila has nothing to do with kudryavtsev. she was coached by kudryavtsev wife at the age of 8 and that's the end of their relationship. for the most of her time in the "moscovite" club she was coached by natalya dubinskaya.

    It's baffling to me how Alysa's team wants to rush everything with her. She's only 13, and she needs to improve a lot in everything she does, two 4Lzs and 3As is completely unnecessary at that age, especially with that very bad technique she has. None of the those were clean at Broadmoor either. Don't forget that she already had a hip operation too.
    She could do less but work on quality, instead of quantity. At the rate she's going...I wonder if she makes it to Beijing.

    • @herm712
      @herm712 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Unfortunately skating is now in the culture of bigger jumps as soon as possible. Alysa could stick to 3-3 combos but she'll never win--the rest of her skating isn't that remarkable...she'll need the 3A and possibly a quad to compete. The past few years have taught us that PCS are a complete and total joke and that the only way to get noticed if you're not Russian is to throw out a big trick. Land the big tricks and the PCS will magically rise. I hate that Alysa is rushing all of the big elements but she will likely be the ONLY American in contention for a medal this season on the junior level. Without the bigger tricks she wouldn't stand a chance.

      @@herm712 I don't say she should only do 3-3 combo and that's it. But two triple Axels and quad Lutzes are WAY too much and unnecessary. One would be more than enough - she could be more consistent with a safer layout, and we know that with consistency and the US flag next to her name would do wonders with her PCS anyway, independent from the actual quality of her skating, choreo, IN/PE, or the amount of transitions.
      With this complete recklesness I wonder if her technique survive until she turns senior.

Not the choreography in the music video of Billy Eilish. Its not the same as gangnam style that had an official choreography in the music video. Daniil claimed the piece to be choreographed by him and did not credit Jojo. If your a chereographer you should be aware of the ethics in the industry.
    I guess you guys love to defend people who are publicly bullied or scrutinized. You can do that but dont discredit other people in doing so. Jojo was right to defend her claim in her masterpiece. Daniil was wrong to claim it to be his. Plagiarism it is.

    I have never seen "Bad Guy", so I don't know what the video is. However, Dave and Jonathan, even I know that stealing someone else's work and passing it off as your own is PLAGIARISM. Daniil G. was pretty stupid to do what he did - he's a choreographer himself, and more, he's an adult. He put Alina Zagitova in a terrible position with his reckless, disrespectful, and irresponsible actions. Even if it isn't copyrighted, it's still important to give someone credit for the work they do. Jojo is in the right to accuse Daniil on his actions. If anyone's reputation should be questioned and damaged, it should be his, and not Zagitova's.

      Does anyone pay attention to 10% rule mentioned by TSL? There were less than 10% moved in the performance, so no plagiarism. Daniil appologized to JoJo because he is a gentlemen and wanted to do things right, but come on, JoJo got more popular after this drama! So, she did not loose anything, she gained popularity among figure skaters.

    • @Essylte
      @Essylte 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@olgab4767 The fact of the matter is, and why many others are upset by this, Daniil did NOT credit the actual choreographer. He did NOT ask for permission from said choreographer AT ALL. This could have been avoided very easily if he had simply ASKED to use a small segment of the choreography from Jojo, but he didn't. As a choreographer, artist or writer, being a creative force in your own right is terribly important.What Daniil G. did shows that he has no integrity, and equally worse, has no actual creative expression of his own. It shows that he was lazy, couldn't be bothered to do his own work (he's a fucking choreographer!), and sloppy. The consequences of his actions can lead to others doubting his abilities, as well as Alina Zagitova, and anyone else he choreographs for. This is why plagiarism is a serious issue, and not one to joke about in the slightest. Being more popular isn't so much the issue here as the blatant DISRESPECT and INTELLECTUAL DISHONESTY served to Jojo Gomez. It seems like you're trying to downplay Daniil's actions. This kind of reasoning doesn't make for good justification. Jojo more popular from it? This is hardly the kind of thing anyone would appreciate. Look down at Evan Perilstein's link on plagiarism, or do some research for yourself.

    Daniil and JoJo were both in the wrong in this situation. Daniil was in the wrong for copying the choreography, which was more than just the beginning. And Jojo was being unnecessarily childish. Also, I don’t understand why Daniil put blame on Alina? He called her his “muse” but mentioned that he showed Alina the video and she knew that it wasn’t his original choreography. That just directed more hate towards her. Anyways, though Medvedeva was childish for her drama, I guess she was right - their team is a “COPYCAT” or whatever that horrid song is.
    Also, both Daniil’s and Jojo’s choreography was awful. I hope Alina gets a better ex.

    I'm pretty shocked you guys are dismissing Daniil's complete rip off of Jojo Gomez's choreography so easily. Doing the Moonwalk or the YMCA dance or the Gangnam Style dance or even ALL of the choreography from Single Ladies isn't the same as what Daniil did. Those are dance moves/choreography done by the actual artist of the song and made popular by that artist. They are easily recognizable and people immediately associate the artist with it, so there's no question about who the credit goes to. Whenever someone does those moves it's imitation...
    This situation was a choreographer coming up with original choreography on her own, only to have another choreographer slap his name on it. Gomez is not associate with Billie Eilish. Her choreography for that song isn't easily recognizable by people as belonging to her. Most people looked at the beginning of Alina's program and assumed Daniil is the one who came up with that choreography. That's him tacitly accepting credit for someone else's work. Had he said from the beginning the program was inspired by Gomez's choreo, there wouldn't have been a problem--he'd be giving credit to the creator and it'd be clear he was imitating rather than trying to pass it off as his own work.
    Gomez was right to address it and fans were right to jump on him about it. It's plagiarism, plain and simple. And as Daniil barely has an original or unique choreographic thought in his head, it looks really bad that he stole from another choreographer and only gave her credit AFTER people called him out on it. NO ONE wants someone taking their idea or brain child and passing it off as their own. This had nothing to do with Alina and whatever fan wars are going on.

Also, even if you don't like someone's work, pay some respect to the person that is highly appreciated in the community of choreographers. The way you insult any music or choreo from respected artists, just because you don't like it, doesn't look professional at all. With Gracie something to consider is that with the amount of weight she gained that she will have loose skin that will make her look heavier than she actually might be. Especially in the midsection. I say this from sad experience and it never went away with diet and exercise until I had it snipped off.
    So looking in shape and being in shape are two different things. And this might end up being a sad reality.

    This is a random question, but can someone explain what the actual rhythm/pattern is for the RD? Broadway could mean anything. Which makes it so fun to think of songs different ice dancers should skate to, but I can't imagine that all of the pantheon of Broadway and opera could work for the assigned pattern.

The combined event had two qualifying groups where the skaters did their long programs for the qualifying round and then did their short and long programs for the final round. Alysa Liu and Hanna Harrell won each of their qualifying groups, but in the final round Alysa won (although Young You was leading after the final round short program).

    I think it's interesting that you guys would consider Alysa's quads to be less consistent "tricks" than Trusova's, even though she seems to be landing her jumps more consistently in competition (comparing her triple axel last season, I think she was more consistently landing it than even Rika?). Although I agree that they appear more inconsistent, I wonder if it's because of the size of the jump and prerotation as opposed to the actual "success rate" of landing the jump.

    Ok, I might have to stop watching TSL after you've said that Jason creates some of the most beautiful pictures and positions! 😱
    His lines are very ugly, so many unaestethic angles, and not only in his legs, but most importantly his arms and hands are horrible! (One of several reasons why I don't enjoy his performances)
    But I agree with the second part, because I also often don't see the connection to the piece or the intent of those poses and choreographic details that he does, so I might give you a pass... ;D. With him there's always so many exaggerate hand gestures, that are so overdone on top of it, or that split jump, which is the worst... gives me a circus horse vibe, and pretty much never fits the music, except for his Cotton-Eyed Joe Exhibition maybe.
