Thanks for this, as the board is glued in place I will try it this way. But I will make the gap a little wider to get FFC thru it more easily without the risk of damaging it.
oooh nevermind! on this video th-cam.com/video/flVBVM_MPxU/w-d-xo.html he shows where exactly the glue is at about 3:20 & I just focused on that area & the motherboard popped right off! thanks for this hack though- I'm really glad I didn't have to use it! this has been a heck of a project that I feel like I should charge my son for.
I appreciate the hack, Fancy Shoes, but can't we just remove the motherboard so we can fish it threw that slot? Or at least loosen it to the point we have more "room"? Just looking for a better option than cutting the plastic. You're the 3rd video I found on this HD 8. Which are kind of a pain in the a** :P
Yeah, I hear you. I tried removing the motherboard and/or loosening it but had no luck. I'm sure there's a way to do it, but I couldn't figure it out. Hence the hack. My son's Kindle is still working great to this day. Thanks for the comment!
The board is glued to the back on one corner. Taking out all visible screws and then heating it up enough soften the glue was enough for me to tilt it up enough to get the flat cable in.
There is no need to break the plastic. Take the screws out of the board and lift gently. Here is a great video on that process. th-cam.com/video/LLujM6w3CA4/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the reference video! Even seeing this though I would still just break that little piece of unnecessary plastic. It’s a lot quicker, and if my kid breaks the screen again I can replace it even faster the next time.
I think the true path is to remove the motherboard. I broke one screen tab already before I understood this.

I've gone through the whole dang screen removal process & am now stuck here. 😆 What did you use to break the plastic?

Nice!

Thanks for the heads up!
Dude you've got to take out the screws to the mother board
My board was also glued. It wasn’t worth the extra work when you can break an insulting little piece of plastic.

ZIF socket ... zero insertion force
That’s the one! Haha 👍
