  • The 110' Island-Class patrol boat was the first cutter to be converted to 123 feet.
    After the conversion she developed a six inch crach forward of her superstructure and a buckled hull on her starboard side. Matagorda was taken out of service December 2006.

    @obertray64 yes, roughly 6 ft...... I was stationed on the Sanibel out of Cape Cod and the Wrangell over in the Middle east for a total of 3 years of these cutters. Loved every second of it.

    I miss the Island class. As an MK, they were relatively easy to keep up. Did both A and C classes, so I dealt with both engineering setups. Not going to mention speeds due to opsec, but they move. Very. Well.

    My dad was the radio operator in ww 2. 6 months on the ship then 6 months on a pay. He did that for the duration of the war. They were in the Atlantic.
