Just want to say Thank You! AC went out today here in SoCal and because of your channel I was able to safely diagnosis a failed capacitor and replace it to get things going again! Great channel!
Minimal wages went up but then everything else did. I rather we fight the real issues like being taxed to death. To pay someone we are taxed payroll taxes, then the one with the paycheck gets taxed on that money that was already taxed, then when a company makes a product to put on a shelf they are taxed both in production, ship, building and sale, then with money already taxed multiple times a worker goes to buy a product already taxed multiple times and then is taxed again with sales tax. Yet people complain about wages.. If we just drop the taxes 15hr could easily be 30hr
I've been in the trade so long, I can remember buying a complete 2 ton R22 system for $600-$700 at my cost. How the times have changed, definitely not for the better.
Wow, I've got a 22 year old system hope it keeps running with the price of new equipment. No computer board, cap is still reading within spec after 22 years. It's a shame what our government has done to the hvac equipment with their mandates.
It’s not a challenge if the tech or company is raping you there’s units out on the market that are reasonably priced and still produced but the tech definitely determines what and what not he will install which should be regulated for consumers protection to stop gouging blaming is all on epa biden or state no way labor should be 2000% above averages
We built our house in 1984, immediately surprised by our Power Bills😮. We Elevating Thermostats to 80 when leaving for work, then back to 74 in the evening! A friend of mine worked for Moncreif in Atlanta gave me some good advice. He said don’t worry about numbers on the thermostat, find a temperature that was comfortable, leave it there!!! We were setting up an impossible test for our AC by making it work harder in the evening trying to recover from the days heat. That system lasted for 30 years just doing by doing checkups every 6 months
Bought a 1.5 ton single stage Ruud heat pump in February 2024 for a family member's rental property. We paid almost $4k just for the heat pump, indoor air handler, and heat kit after tax (9.5% sales tax on it). The price went up again in March 2024 as well. No idea what it went up to for me because I haven't bought another one since and don't plan on it either. I had about another $1,000 in ancillary materials to install it (new lineset, new thermostat wire, metal for transition, thermostat, copper fittings, flexible conduit to protect tstat wiring, float switches, pad, pump ups, gravel & sand, disconnects, whips & wire, fuses, surge protector to help protect the constant torque ECM blower, multiple types of tapes, oxy/acetylene, silver, nitrogen, R410A for trim charging, vacuum pump oil, zip ties, wire nuts, locking caps, PVC, glue & primer, gas for the van, etc. etc.). Crazy how expensive these units are now. My labor warranty costs me almost $1,200 for a Ruud split system heat pump, which is high. A guy I know can buy Trane equipment at about half the price I can purchase Ruud equipment for and his labor warranty is only a $300 add on which he includes with every system. Granted he does a few million a year in business, so the supply houses and manufacturers love him. He gets volume discounts where I pay retail or higher I guess. Manufacturers, third party banks offering the financing on these more expensive units, and the third party insurance companies offering these extended labor warranties are making a killing on this equipment. The pandemic was great for them and their margins while the homeowners in America are getting spanked. Sticker shock when quoting on change outs or coil swaps seem to be a normal thing now with customers. Thanks for the video and stay safe out there.
Curtis up there in the hot Peach, helping out another damsel in distress. Uh oh, oil in the drain pan; time for a replacement. I chose the repair myself and my HydroTech unit is still going strong after six years; you never know. Another great Curtis production.
Prices just keep going up. Another good reason to go with the changeout is all the developing supply chain issues; best do it now. Gee, if you get to remove that old system this coming Thursday, it will retire the same day I do! Hopefully, I'll get to live a lot longer though...
Very reasonable pricing, either way, I would go for the changeout. I would do the dryer vent myself though. I would find a way to pipe it through a wall and not through the roof, if possible. The roof vents IMO are fire hazards. Good job
@@alexhargis9802 If possible is the thing, what does the dryer back up to? You can put a 90 or 2 - 45s in the attic and go out the side, but the lent likes to pile up in the bends. In that case through the roof may be better. My BIL has his going through the roof and his was clogged up tight, not good. He has to check it frequently. They do make those buckets that you keep water in, that you keep in the room with the dryer, but that ends up a mess. Still better than fire hazard. Sorry to beat this to death, but many houses burn because of the clothes dryer.
Yes i just priced a compressor change out on 3 ton 20+ yr old unit convert to 407C bout 5 minutes ago only get 1 yr warranty on compressor. This compressor is in a mobile home with gas furnace
I also noticed the suction line insulation was missing outside from the wall to the unit about 2 or 3 feet and near the indoor coil about 1 foot! That dust in the attic was from the drier vent lint or from blown attic insulation?
Hmmm, it might not make sense to just do the evaporator coil, but the extra $3k for a changeout might be that bridge too far. In these harder economic times, the $3.5k might even be a stretch. Either way, I hope you get the job.
Close to $6000 for a total system change out and the additional dryer vent rerun, that is affordable as heck! It would make no sense for the woman to repair that pain of a Payne system
hey killer her wages didn’t keep pace with the inflation so 6k to her is crazy expensive not reasonable if she got a mini bosch split system it should be around 3k installed with the vent rerun he got one of those stacked ladders and it’s only two clamps come on guy gonna make a years worth of profit on one old lady talk about raping her? blind wow
Southern California full system with a permit would be closer to $16,000 -$20,000 depending on type of equipment. Closer to 30k for inverter equipment. Been in trade for 10yrs and prices are ridiculous now
I saw a bad design right off the bat. The return and the thermostat we're both in the kitchen. Heat from cooking going stright into the return. And with the air going across the thermostat. So it'll always be hot in the summer time. As for winter. The cooking helps with heating. But only while cooking.

I'm not so sure it's worth replacing an old system with new. I have a old gas Sears Kenmore high efficiency 96% air handler that's about to be 40 years old and a AC (Rheem) unit that's 22 years old. I make sure to keep up on changing filters and the AC (R22) has only been recharged once about 5 years ago. The air handler has no fancy electronics, just 2 relays, and the AC only has the contactor. Nearly everyone I have spoken with said their new AC systems don't last that long and have more service calls due to the electronics or leaking coils. My next door neighbor is on their 3rd AC unit. It only lasted 12 years with numerous service calls. I doubt there is anything manufactured today that would last nearly as long. This is all subjective but there is something to be said about keeping the older systems going as apposed to replacing them.
$6000 for a system change out?! Over here in the west that would be more than double that amount. Is that the average price for a new system over there?

Those increases have nothing to do with Biden. The manufacturers laid off thousands during the pandemic and slowed production to almost a halt. Every manufacturer raised their prices uncontrollably it was no different here in Canada than it was in the U.S. or anywhere else around the world.
