Soham, you're a true wonderful teacher. You repeat the things were supposed to do, with each lesson, and use positive reinforcement. As apposed to some "teachers" out there who just say things like, "you people always do it wrong. do it this way!" Thank you for your kindness!
Greetings from México Mr. Harrison you´re a great teacher and a superb silversmith. I allways learn something new from watching your videos. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us. Blessings.
I really love your videos and the end of this one made me chuckle! Thanks for sharing the wisdom of many years of smithing with us all. I so appreciate it!
Thank you so much!! I thought I was going to have to take a class to figure it out. I knew a dap was involved in doing the flare... but I couldn't figure out how the spinner ring gets attached. As you were working on the spinner, I had an AHA moment and realized what was coming next with slipping it over and then dapping.
I know I keep saying it, but thank you so much for these videos. you have a true fan here and I'm so excited that I've found you. Thanks for everything!
This is an excellent video. Quick, well explained without going into being too verbose. I've made an anticlastic ring before and I learned at least 3 new tips. Definitely checking out your other videos. Thank you!
I keep saying it too, you are an inspiration and a wonderful teacher. Thank you so very much! I have shared you with my jewelry making friends and will continue to do so!
Having so much fun with my unlimited wifi watching all of your amazing videos. ..by far the best on the tube! !! Can't wait to try this tomorrow! Thanks for taking the time to make these for us aspiring metalsmiths xo
Soham, you are a true blessing to novices!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your knowledge, tips and skills with us! After watching this video out of many of your today,,a funny thought came to mind, that you are similar to Clint Eastwood!! In the jewelry biz!!! You even sound like him in your videos!!, ;0)) have. A great day!!
Beautifully simple instructions. I'm using 20 gauge. When I use the dap I split open the joint. The seam was solid, but I'm wondering if the gauge is too heavy.
Everytime i look up how to do something and get confused by others instructions I think Hmmm I wonder if Soham has a video..you usually do.. and i watch it.. and its like the clouds part... Thank you so much for your videos!
Your videos are great, always so clear to see what your doing. What size was the dapping punch you used for the spinner ring? I have been looking to buy a dapping set but they all sound to small, 30mm being the largest. Thanks
Amazing thank you! I have watched so many of you videos! I have now started to get my basic silversmithing tools!! I can't wait to start work - any advice to a complete newbie!!
Soham, I love your videos Please never stop making them :) I have a strange question. Here is challenge! Is it possible to add a spinner (inner ring) after the the outside edges have been flared? My concern was trying to solder the ends of the spinner it would end up attachingto the main ring. Or maybe just scrap it and start over :)
give it a try. coat the main ring with ocre, white out, or rouge to keep the smaller ring from sticking. place the solder joins 180 degrees apart. you have nothing to lose and you might learn something. i recon failure is good, it is always educational.;-)
This may be a stupid question. But you use that calibrator a lot in your videos. I've never seen or used one, but it would obviously be very helpful to have. Where did you buy it??
I have a friend who bent her ring (the inside spinners are the worst part bent). I figured I'd have to somehow unbend the one end to slip the spinners off, reshape them on my mandrel, then dap the end back. Is this what you would suggest or is unbending that end impossible? Thank you for your help in advance. I always appreciate your metalsmith wisdom.
Thanks for another amazing video! I made one with D-wire for the outer ring, but it was just blind luck it turned out the right size. So I have a question regarding the maths, does it work the same way for D-shaped wire? Mine is 4mm wide and 2mm high, so is the length (outer diameter + 2mm) x 3.14 + 1mm?
Hi it must just be me but I cant seem to get the anticlastic bit right I end up with a really wonky edge and however much I try one side seems to bend more than the other... any advice?
Best video I have seen. No annoying music, clear speech and excellent camera work.
thank you

Awesome way to get some additional productivity from my dapping set. Thanks Soham

Nicely done, plainly explained.
Fantastic video mate! I use to live in Southern Cross WA haha. So are you using a 27mm Dapping punch? Thanks!
Following your video, I produced my first quality ring!!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
congradulations

I have been looking to buy a dapping set but they all sound to small,

Thanks

Soham, the correct way you pronounce "solder" and you mentioned something about "in Australia " makes me wonder. Are you in Oz?
+Roman Dybala thanks, yes i am in OZ fremantle in WA
+soham harrison Like the way you call a sharpie a " texta ". They used to use xylene in them. Smelled great but apparently not good for you.

soham harrison Thank you! I'll let you know if I'm successful :)
;-)
How many mm's is the dapping punch you're using?
Will it work for all size rings?
Thanks!
Fantastic tutorial!!!! Thank you!
Excellent video. Thanks!
This may be a stupid question. But you use that calibrator a lot in your videos. I've never seen or used one, but it would obviously be very helpful to have. Where did you buy it??
+annaliese koranki it is a digital caliper available in most automotive and hardware shops. get one accurate to .01mm
fantastic, thanks so much!!
If you don't mind my asking what type of material did u use? Thank u.
Thanks a lot, was looking for an easy way to make a spinner ring :)

sounds doable, but anneal before trying to bend anything

yes, it doesnt matter what the shape is, it is the thickness that is critical. you have it right
Ok thank you so much for your advice!
I've accidentally cleaned the antiquing of a few rings, what's used to do antiquing on silver jewelry?
Hi it must just be me but I cant seem to get the anticlastic bit right I end up with a really wonky edge and however much I try one side seems to bend more than the other... any advice?
Thank you so much for this video, it was exactly where i was looking for. Gonna try one now
Thank you for posting this! I was having a hard time trying to follow or people's tutorials
Do you ever sell any of the things you make on here?
Thanks because I was defiantly wondering how the hell they did that! :)
excellent tutorial. Thank you so much
Thank you for that. One less thing to feel like a dope about!
Very cool, thanks
I was wondering where you get wire that size?
i'm sure rio has it
genius
love it! thank you!
love this...thank you
thank you for the nice words
my pleasure
just do the best work you can: if you think you could have done it better, do it !
different sizes for different rings, we want to roll the edge, not make the ring bigger
22 guage would be better, when i used 20, mine split too.
