This artist is a regional treasurer. His music addresses regional issues not only national issues affecting us as Zimbabweans. This Song 'Kupera kwevanhu' (the massacre of people) & 'Zimbabwe-Mozambique' (1986) and Tongosienda all address political issues in southern Africa. The first 2 decry how the Cold War-inspired civil war in Mozambique claimed lives from the mid 1970s. Tongosienda again condemns both racial and political violence in South Africa and Mozambique. Tongosienda (1986) openly galvanized/ mobilized independent Southern African countries to military support anti-apartheid wars in South Africa & Namibia. The same track also calls for the elimination of infamous Renamo rebel leader Dhlakama who was behind the Mozambican civil war. And you hear some ignorant, arrogant South Africans saying our neighbors did not assist us to fight for independence... Kuurayiwa kuurayiwa kwevanhu veMozambique x2 the massacre of the people of Mozambique. Kupera kupera kwevanhu veMozambique x2 the massacre of the people of Mozambique. Ndochema ndochema, ndochema ndochema I cry, I cry, I cry, I cry haaa ahaaaaa Misodzi yangu, inga yobuda My tears, coming out baba ndorangarira Father I remember
We need an Africa like this. Mapfumo identifies with issues in Mozambique as if there is no border. If only SA could do this, Zim would have eliminated dictatorship
This song is so touching, consider his concern to the people of Mozambique yet he is Zimbabwean. He has another song for unity btwn Zim and Moza called Zimbabwe ne Mozambique
its a spiritual song with a narrative drums, in shona the drums he is playing are for calling spirits, these kind of drums are played when there's a traditional ceremony! and are very spiritual, but he concerns in this situation were about the civil war which took place in Mozambique @ that time, where many innocent people perished.
He is anguishing over the attrition of Mozambican people at the hands of Apartheid & Renamo-Matsangaise! The Boers needed to face war crimes charges over their crimes in Rhodesia and South Africa but they were protected by the Anglo-American iron dome!!
I don't understand or speak Shona but would just like to say Mukanya apa makakwamura, kuita ukatakata!
