  • Established as a marine national park in 1974, Tarutao National Marine Park covers a 1,490 km² area in southernmost Thailand off the coast of Satun Province in the Andaman Sea. The park consists of 51 islands within two groups; the Tarutao Group to the east and the Adang-Rawi Group to the west. There are three archipelagos in the park; Tarutao Archipelago, Klang Archipelago and Adang Archipelago. The name Tarutao derives from Pulau Tertua (means "the island of old") which was the original name of the main island.
I arrived first at Pakbara Pier from where I bought the speedboat to Koh Tarutao where I stayed for the night. The island was almost completely empty. Basically just me and national park rangers working there. On the next day, the speedboat picked me up and took me to Koh Lipe, the most Southern island in Thailand. It's also definitely the busiest one in the region, with plenty of bars and noisy nightlife.
Koh Bulon Le is definitely one of the most unspoiled and untouched by mass tourism islands in Thailand. There are no big parties, no speedboats going back and forth and electricity is available only for a few hours per day. It’s a big contrast compared to nearby and very popular Koh Lipe.
With a size of about 3 square kilometres, it’s a really small piece of paradise that can be walked around easily in a few minutes without any stress related to traffic as simply there are no cars and only a few motorbikes owned by the locals. Sounds interesting?
