  • DemocracyNow.org - As memorials are held to remember the Sikh worshippers shot dead at a Wisconsin temple, we're joined by Simran Jeet Singh, a Sikh community activist and doctoral candidate in religion at Columbia University. In response to the Sunday's shooting, he posted a commentary called, "As A Sikh-American I Refuse To Live In Fear And Negativity." Singh writes: "Although it will be important to understand what motivated the violence, this should not color the inspiration behind our own reactions. We should draw from our American and Sikh traditions by continuing to respond with love and compassion. Let us stand up together and turn the tragedy in Wisconsin into a turning point for our nation." We also speak with on Don Walker, a reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel covering the Sikh temple shooting.

It's ironic that the most violent people accuse the Muslims religion of terror and hate, when the Muslim religion is one of the most peaceful by teaching principals of nonviolence and understanding.

Lol I'm a grown man! My family has been here since the 60's. My grandad came here in the 20's! Sikh people actually contributed to BOTH world war efforts and truthfully even though they don't teach it in schools neither war efforts of the u.k would have been successful had they not fought for the commonwealth at the time! That is an undeniable fact! More of us faught for the u.k than actual people from the u.k (english).

"sikkhism is not a separate religion"
What on Earth makes you think that? Yes of course it's a separate religion. I'm suspecting that you think it's a Hindu sect? It's not, it's a common misconception to think that it is.

“If it turns out...it may have been motivated...by the ethnicity of those who were attending the temple, I think the American people immediately recoil against those kinds of attitudes"
i would like to believe that "the american people immediately recoil against those attitudes," but sadly bigotry, fear, ignorance, hatred & outright racism are all too widespread in america (& many other countries as well) for that to be the case. we've got to face up to that fact before we can move beyond it.

I've already done my history bud, I probably know more about the history than you do of that region :) Secondly, I'm not a Sikh, if that's your insinuation. My beef with you is that you're more of a ignoramus whereas I actually try to understand and learn.
