Cat Transmission Fail... D8T Total Destruction (Disassembly Video)

This Cat D8T Transmission was recently rebuilt by a local heavy equipment transmission shop, It never got to run as it failed right away and reported very low oil pressure.
I was asked to rebuild it and report on why it failed. The customer ended up buying a trans since the cost to rebuild this one would have exceeded $30,000 with parts and labor.

I had a snap ring burn me on a transmission once, since then all new snap rings. Once they are stretched they never fit right.

It’s amazing how great Cat transmissions are, but a small $5 part can mess it all up and cost thousands

I’m not sure why the gears broke, maybe the low oil pressure from the seals that was cut on last rebuild

Likely a piece of debris started this chain reaction or a cracked tooth/damage from last failure.

Do you know when this transmission was built? I actually built the planetary for this one. I see my initials on the top manifold housing and the DZH on the side is definitely my writing. Hopefully they got many hours from it before the rebuilds lol.

I believe it was rebuilt summer 2023 and didn’t work right from install. but I don’t know when it was done before that.
