- After an awesome beach day in Antigua we return to the ship to enjoy the evening activities. I went to check on possible pier runners when saw that a family came out of the ship with their luggage. They had to satay in Antigua due to a medical emergency.
This evening included people watching at the pier, sail away, live music at the Music Hall, the Holiday Spectacular show, and a great time at the silent disco time.

My former co worker passed away during a excursion on a cruise. She was with her husband, brother and SIL. They had to get off at the port she passed in too..

Absolutely! It is beautiful. Everyone is nice and welcoming.
I did see an entire family kicked off a ship once. I only know the details because I was indirectly involved. My partner on the cruise got into a very heated debate one night with the father of this family after we had sat though a show (in the adults only theatre) with his kids running around and throwing things at the passengers. The guy clearly thought this was is right to allow this. It got broken up by security, and both the father and my partner got cautioned to behave. But it transpired that through the night and the next morning the cruise staff received multiple complaints about the kids behaviour. I dont know if they tried to talk to the guy and he got as combative with them, or the captain just said "enough already" with the number of complaints, but sure enough, next day the whole family did the walk of shame off the ship. They did, at least, acknowledge to my partner that while he could have handled it better, he was not in the wrong.
Oh! So sorry you had to experience this inconvenience. This does happen occasionally. We as cruisers sometimes think that we have the right to do whatever we want because we spend a few $$$. It does takes a lot for the ship crew to intervine and say "STOP OR ELSE". It takes a lot for them to kick-off.

My friend’s grandson was killed in an accident while we were on the way back to USA on TA cruise and she had to get off the ship in Canada to return to the USA two days before the end of cruise in Boston.
I remember being on the breakaway and my grandpa had a minor stroke. He had to get off at a port in Florida but told us to keep cruising and have extra fun for him. I was pretty upset and would have rather disembarked with him since it just wasn't the same after he had to get off. Hopefully everything went alright for that family.
Sad that a whole family had to stay on the island due to some medical problems. That should be a reminder to everyone watching: make sure your doc gives you the green light BEFORE you take that trip. It could save a trip to the hospital in a city you're unfamiliar with! Scary too...

What annoys me most about latecomers is when they don't even seem to be in a rush - at least pretend to run...! Haha
🤣🤣 It's really hard to catch a pier runner actually running. Some cruisers feel entitled and believe that ship needs to wait because they are already on the pier.
To be honest, late runners getting back on the ship do not bother me in the least, simply because, whether they are late or not, that does not prevent, delay nor change any of the activities that the crew offers on board the ship. In fact, I think late-runners provide laughter for the early ones watching them on the verge of being left behind.
@@bestatsea1415 Sometimes you wish they would wait for the runner to be 40-50 meters from the ship, and then start closing the door.
Not close it instantly, but also don't wait. Just make ready for sailing, and screw anyone who doesn't know the time.
They tell you to get back by 4:30 knowing there will be stragglers. They don't like having to wait past 5:30, they want that ship out of the harbour and sailing in open seas by 6:00 to the next port.

I would feel bad for anyone who missed the ship. I couldn’t call out anything nasty. But than again hundreds made it back in time. Outside a medical reason and a late cruise ship excursions there is no excuse.
I agree. There really is no excuse. Being back on time is the single Most Important and the most talked about aspect of visiting a port on a cruise.
Anyone who is late and does not run should not be allowed off the ship at the next port🤨. See how fast they are on time next time😂

Couldn't there be a golf cart on these piers?
Actually, they have them in many ports. Some ports also have full trolleys or busses (watch my Barbados Video) to take you to the terminal buildings.
Poor thing but entertaining sometimes to see piere runners left behind because of their selfishness. But sad at same time if they late because of other people's mistake.
I always like to watch people trickling in last minute and the crew getting ready to sail. I hope I never have to watch someone being left behind. That would be sad.
how do you know they are selfish ? how do you know WHY they are late ? ever stop and think about maybe they were victims/witness to a crime or incident ? Maybe there was a car accident and the roads were blocked ? could be any damn number of things ! people like you are one of the main reasons why I won't get on a cruise !
@@baronedipiemonte3990 and ships have these weird things called RADIOS that let them stay in contact with the shore and local authorities, so if these do happen the ship can be called
I guess that there are worse places to be put ashore, but better reasons though.
Some in life are always late with. Total disregard. I understand people booing other passengers for being late. Clapping and whistling in approval of them making the ship. Basically reward for being late.

The truth is that the ship's crew are very patient and make every effort to not leave you stranded. So people just walk down the pier like royalty. Cruising is truly the best type vacation.
Security will have a reason. But not always ina negative way

I think Cruise Ships should should have boarding ramps at each end of the ship to stop passengers having unnecessary long walks.
They should also have a fleet of jeeps to ferry passengers along extraordinarily long piers.
They should also have a helicopter on board to ferry stranded passengers on board.
Some ports provide a ride but there are thousands getting off the ship at the same time. They do have other gangways to get out usually where elevator ar located. Anthem has two.
I would be a pier runner just to get a helicopter ride. 🤣
Or passengers can just be on time. 😱
Barton, and how many jeeps do you think they would need to "ferry" thousands of passengers getting off the ships in a limited time on these long piers? I asked just to highlight how unrealistic that suggestion is. All people need to do is to be on time.
