Appreciate the shout out JJ and and kind words. Happy the little blade is working hard for you. Enjoy brother!
Honored brother- thank YOU!!!
It's a sweet little knife!
@@user-bh3ew6ii4g thank you!
Nice knife.
@@ferebeefamily thanks!
JJ, you are the best. I loved all the information you shared and if I had that cape on I would totally do a batman leaving impression and swirl that cape. We are always so thankful when you share the PNWBUSHCRAFT groundcloth and it makes me happy that it's one of your go to pieces of gear. We appreciate your support of our USA made small business. It's people like you who make our community so awesome. I look forward to sharing a campfire again.
Oops, maybe I should have said cloak but I was totally thinking superhero cape
It’s easy when y’all make such awesome stuff! And I TOTALLY see superhero Avenger like poses coming in the future 😂.. Can’t wait to see y’all at Demo Days!!! Thanks for being y’all 🔥👊🏻❤️👊🏻🔥
@@FueltheFires I look forward to seeing it
Well done, JJ. Love this format of video. Very informative and educational. Keep them coming. Thank you.
Thank you and there’s more to come!
Definitely want to see more on the cloak 👊🔥👊
Vote counted 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
It's cool, but $650 is too rich for me! Great idea to look for cheaper options.
Very expensive! Wth is it made of! That’s a good piece of escape and evade though.
Way too expensive. Who pays $650 for this besides U.S. gov’t.
I like the no big deal attitude with an honest opinion 😁
Thanks! We try over here 😂
Great vid, thank you all
I really like these kind of videos where your out in nature and y'all show how it works.
Enjoyed this video. Keeping them coming.

If you have GPS, mark your location, and you can always return when you're better prepared .
JJ. Truly been loving the content you are pushing out. I need more woods time.
Nice! Thanks for letting me know that- I really appreciate it!
As far as the cloak, the way you had it set up as a shelter, carry a poncho with it. Then you can use it like a fly over the holes for the hands and it will help with ventilation. Just an idea.
Absolutely.. I think another solution would be a military grade survival tarp
Rain proof paints, poofy down jacket for insulation, poncho/cape set pretty good. Dry bag with merino wool base layer for if and when you get soaked. Grail with titanium snow peak 600 nested. Headlamp and multitool. Usually my base
It’s a good base- very very similar to mine.. I dig it!
As to base layers and pants, I usually stay away from all the shiny outdoor brands and stick to proven workwear in khaki, green and similar colors. From spring through fall I'm either wearing a hooded wool jacket or a lightweight puffy jacket, but I usually stick to wool as it holds up better to the wear and tear. I wanted to add a heavy wool anorak for winter but shied away from it due to the reasons you explained. So far, I'm still happy with a hooded chore coat or with a padded rain jacket from a well known outdoor brand, that made some debatable marketing decisions during the last couple of years😉. But the jacket itself is going strong for 8+ years now. Keep'em coming, JJ 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Roger that brother! You know what you’re doing 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Such a cool cloak deffinatly upgrade from standard poncho. U could use gorilla tape maybe on arm holes when set up as shelter.
Awesome video jj respect from UK 🇬🇧🌱🌲👍😎💪
Awesome! I really appreciate the kind words and support 🔥👊🏻🇺🇸👊🏻🔥
Very good and informative video. A nice and rational outdoor gear review that experience erienxed as well as ordinary people can relate to and lots of interesting content. Big Thanks from Texas!
Texas in the house! Really appreciate the kind words and the support.. Thanks for watching!
The gear I have and been using has been good to better, I've never been able to buy top stuff. What I can afford has always worked out in one way or another. And it's kept me alive. It's all about survival.
Many years I have run “adequate” gear and certainly agree with you.. Experience trumps gear everyday of the week!
@@FueltheFires Yeah, it's funny how the school of outdoor hard knocks never gave me sometimers after all these years.
P.S. nice video JJ.

Really appreciate the video. I'd love to see more gear reviews from you, you naturally see the things and talk about the things I want to hear about from my kit.
I really appreciate your feedback.. I like doing reviews- At least reviews of gear I use or would consider using.. Thanks for watching!
Thank you JJ...I suck at knots so I'm always intrigued how yall knot things like with your shelter in this video...Thanks brother for what you do.
You’re welcome and thanks for letting me know! I can certainly do that in the future- I apologize as I take some things for granted from time to time.. I will make that happen and thanks for watching!
Definitely loving this type of video, you can tell that it's not scripted, just go with the flow 👍, and do more with the cloak, it's definitely worth looking into 🤙🤙🤙
Thanks for the video! Appreciate you
Absolutely! … and I appreciate YOU!
JJ you could use the arm hole for water collection with pots or canteen with the cloak,
I would absolutely do that 👍🏻

As part of my BOB, I wear my rifle scope and it's return to zero mount/base in a hard belt case. Being able to see 7x farther is a gift from god, but if shtf, you shouldn't be out and about in daylight. During the day, keep the silneced AR in 223 firing mode, but at night, put in the 22lr conversion unit and use the 60 gr Aquila subsonic ammo. Needs the 1 in 9" rifling twist-rate to stabilize that very long 22 bullet.
I dig it 👊🏻
Yes more videos like this one. How does one j.j. touch base with another j.j. with a similar search and rescue background?

Great video! Tacti Cloak looks like an item is like to get, but I saw prices of $650! Is there another price or is it just pricey over all? LoL
At this point, another one is not available but he is talking about producing another version that would cost less in the future.. Thanks for watching and for the positive feedback!
Thanks y’all 🤙🏻🇺🇸

Thanks a bunch
You’re welcome and thanks for watching
Your buying / gathering value is a good creed / shopping fights inflation.
Thank you!
I bit of duct tape over those holes if you are expecting rain should work fine.
True that.. If I had to pay that much though, I would expect it to work for that purpose.. Gorilla tape to the rescue until they come up with a solution 👍🏻
I use a puffy as an inner liner.
I love that cloak! Heat signature mitigation, water proof, shelter, poncho... what else can you ask for?
I was pretty critical of it due to the cost but I’m really liking it the more I use it.. They say I will have an updated version very soon
Awesome review
Thank you!
14:21 now that is a throw back to the obscure shows of late 80s early 90s.
I’m pretty picky as well. Good gear that works is pretty tough to find.
Sure be!
I have the same Puffy, great bang for the buck!
Cool! Thanks for posting this 👊🏻
I encourage bears to stay away from me, a centimeter at a time. I appreciate your style and knowledge. I’m the same way with gear. I put it to hard use, because it’s a tool. If it won’t handle hard use, then I can’t depend on it when it matters. Also, I insist on redundancy. Everything has a function, and a backup in case it doesn’t function. Yes my Decked boxes are full, as are the storage under my truck seats, and my pack, and my Hercules duffel, and my Alu-Boxes, and my sling bag, and my pockets. It is what it is. Most of my knives are Benchmade because they’re local and I get a discount. I have awesome OKC stuff too, and now that they’re officially out of business I’m picking up stock I can find that fits a role.
Yes- I have many knives by OKC and Benchmade.. Both make great knives.. I keep bears away by that system as well 😂.. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the kind words! 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Good job on that review
Thanks!
William sent me a blade when my wife passed a prototype I used it for 8 yrs now and man I can't say how great it is great bunch of gear j j I like that tent so to say
He’s a good man 👍🏻
That cloak is a great idea. Make the pockets sealable and boom, it’s a winner.
Agreed.. Never had experience with one but I like it.. Nic said they are currently modifying it after my suggestion.. I should have a new updated version very shortly.. Pretty impressed with their response to the video
@@FueltheFires that’s awesome, thanks for the intro to the new piece of kit, I think it’s going to be a hit.

Hey JJ love the video brother keep them coming I just recently purchased the pilgrim anorak and I love the jacket, now the tacticloak is very nice but the price, yikes
Glad you liked the video! I LOVE my anorak- awesome piece of kit.. The cloak is definitely a serious investment for sure.. Thanks for watching!
Great content. Thank you.

I’m thinking a whole series of the “Caped Bushcraft Survior Man Super Hero Bushcraft Camouflage Man” could make for some interesting outtakes 😂 A good addition to the Bushplicity hilarity for sure!
Glad the puffy is working out!! ❤
I always wanted a super hero cape lol.. I see Marvel poses in my future 🔥🔥🔥
@@FueltheFires YEASSSSSSS!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Great video, brother . I feel your pain with the thorns. Especially the wait a minute vine. That's the one you run into and say, wait a minute. They are usually black with giant thorns. Like nature's barbed wire. They start out green but turn black. They are very common in southeast ga. 😂
Also, I would love to see a video on the cloak. I've got a good friend who was in a branch of the navy who said he loved it back in Afghanistan.
Yeah, here in Georgia those bastards are everywhere- big and small lol.. I will certainly do more outdoor adventures with it.. He contacted me right after the video came out and said they are incorporating my idea for it.. I should have the updated version very soon.. As always- thank you for the kind words and continued support 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
@@FueltheFires 👍🏻
I say that because of my disability. Don't walk very well or use my arms much but I go out for days where I don't see anyone in all types of weather. I also have major heart issues and hopefully endy days in the woods
Understood and I think something like this is perfect for that 👍🏻
Thank you 😊
You’re welcome- Thanks for watching!
I modified both the shovel and the Crunch to be taken apart and re-assembled without tools. The small flathead blade became a double-edged "drill', so i can make the mounting holes in the various shovel handles.
Very kool 😎
A review of the cloak would be good. I'm interested in how effective/versatile it is
Copy that!
Don’t know if mentioned yet but worried about leaks at the slits / handgrips of your shelter? Duct tape has a million uses.
Gorilla tape to the rescue 👍🏻
I may take a look at the Taci-c!oak. That looks like a good ixea.
Although we are opposite sides of the "pond" JJ. I always love to hear what you have to say and also see what we have over here that could well be as good or better. If not, something we have seen that could be tweaked to make it as good.
Lovin' your vids mate!
Roger that! I appreciate the feedback and love testing gear from all over the world.. Lots of good AND bad stuff out there 😂
@@FueltheFires There’s certainly some bad stuff out there, that is portrayed by some as good stuff 😁
You folks have some amazing gear over there. Especially rucks/packs.
Can you tell me Abou the Jacket you are wearing? Looks good and functional.
It’s a Pilgrim’s Anorak by Helikon Tex 👍🏻
The material looks close to a material for these tarps they issued us overseas that held heat out in the summer and in in the winter I’ll have to look it up and see if I can find it, but it looks like cool gear.
I had never seen anything like it.. It’s definitely a unique fabric
@@FueltheFires yeah it is I looked it up really cool, but I remember we had these tarps we got once that were a strange material and in Iraq you could string it up and it would be a 40 degree difference under it and it blocked your signature if you covered with it that’s what it reminded me of.
Now that I’m retiring I wish I would have hung on to more of the cool stuff they gave us over the years instead of giving it away or trading it because I wasn’t using it.
a very small soft plastic bottle of adhesive-release-agent is the only way to get tape loose from plastic or tyvek. The drum liners can be used for other things. I carry a 3rd one and a 3x4 ft oval of clear PEVA shower-curtain (wally's) when I want to use the one way projected heat of a Siberian fire lay. Learn the Siberian and the alternative Swedish fire torch, which is used to ignite the Siberian when all is wet. YT has vids about both. The Siberian CAN be 4" OD, 4 ft long logs, dont be decieved. Drive 4 stakes and stack 3-4 of the logs between the stakes, forming a "wall", Lay your burn-logs over this wall, leaving about 1 ft of the ends protruding past the wall. The fire burns out on those ends. Both these fire lays WILL burn green, wet wood if need-be and once they are going-well, rain can't put them out.. You dont want the 'wall' to burn, so plaster the fire-side of it with a 3" thick layer of mud.
Thank you for the video and demonstrations. Finally found the Tacticloak....$650!!! Yikes! It does definitely look like a great piece of gear!
Yes, as I said- expensive.. I was extremely critical of it because of that.. They said they were going to make the changes and send me another to try out.. Shocked and impressed me at the same time
@@FueltheFiresGreat observations and recommendations. Please, feel free to send me your "castoff." : ))))))
I carry a 6 oz modified Crunch mulittool, cause it's 10x as useful as any fixed blade. In the woods, I add 3 different types of saw blade, to be held in the vise grip of the Crunch. I also carry a modified Cold steel shovel., without the handle. I can make whatever length and configuration of handle i need for it in an hour. Without the handle, the shovel weighs less than 1 lb and it's a SKILLET, "big knife", trowel, It can become a paddle, 2-handed axe (with stone weight) a stand up shovel, a vertical ice-chipper/posthole digger, or an adze/pick/hoe/rake.. The crunch has two file blades, one of them triangular, for sharpening the saw teeth.
Good stuff right here 👊🏻
I would like to see you put the New and Improved Pathfinder Emergency Blanket through the paces in harsh wind and rain , to see if the grommets and shelter hold up .
Gotcha- thanks for posting that.. I probably could make that happen 👍🏻
I'd like to also see that.. I have put off buying the heavier emergency blankets because most all of them have grommet issues or the coating just comes right off.
@@stephaniejarriel8938I have found the Arcturus Emergency blankets to be good, the grommets haven't had issues, and I have many of them. It's a good company with good customer service. They have various camo and solid color options.
I had major issues with the Pathfinder emergency blanket grommets (haven't tried the latest incarnation and probably won't). No quality control there obviously. I told them about issues with the emergency blanket I recieved and sent photos. The grommets were not set well, smashed on one side creating pretty much a blade that was going to cut through cordage fairly quickly. They did the good customer service thing and sent me a new one even without me asking. Unfortunately they obviously didn't bother to check it, and it had the same problem with the grommets as well.
Outstanding job, Bear.! I’m a recent subscriber, and nothing has let me down yet. You keep it real brother, and thank you for all your effort and sharing information. In this video, what windbreaker are you using? I’ll check out Wu gear and see if they got. Be looking forward to the next one sir.
Thank you! Welcome to the Tribe! I really appreciate the kind words and positive feedback.. The windbreaker is a Pilgrim’s Anorak by Helikon Tex 👍🏻
Like the idea of the cloak in a get home type situation. You're not happy, feel a little unsafe and really just want to get home. If you are wearing your shelter you can be up and gone in seconds with all your kit if disturbed when trying to sleep. Would it be better than a poncho? Don't know. Times more of a thief than usual at present for me so I'm putting in the miles when time allows because I need the exercise!!! Have managed to test out a Gerber Freescape I got for Christmas and next is a Water To Go Active Bottle, Water Filter. I've used their products for years just not this particular one, if it can Filter out the taste of sheep s*it on Dartmoor it can't be bad!!! They're made in the next town over from me too so I'm supporting the locals!!!!
I agree.. I now want to test this new water product you speak of.. Can’t argue with you there and glad to see you’re supporting the locals 👊🏻
when I escaped from Terre Haute camp, mid-Feb of 1990, I slept on frozen ground for 7 nights, with just an Army field jacket, 4 sets of cheap cotton clothes, one set of cotton socks, one set of cotton gloves, a cotton beanie. Twice woke up with a dusting of snow on me. I walked 120 miles of RR track in 8 nights, to Springfield ILL. All of the debris was wet/rotten, so I'd just lay down wherever I got exhausted. Those RR ties are spaced (probaby on purpose) so that every 3-4 steps, either your heel or ball of your foot goes off of the tie. The train vibrations shake the gravel down several inches, exposing the ties. Even with Ace wraps, my ankles would just quit after about 15 miles. I had been walking 25+ miles a day around the track, getting ready. I was 38 yo. the last night, i got soaked, took hours to get in to a laundromat and get dry again. Got pneumonia, nearly died from it. :-)
JJ, I may have missed it, but what brand and material is your wear layer anorak? Thanks!
It’s a Pilgrim’s Anorak by Helikon Tex 👍🏻

Hi JJ! What a great video again! You presented some very interesting stuff for example the knife. This little beast looks so awesome and I think you will have much fun with it. The puffy is also a great thing because it shows that good stuff has not to be automatically very expensive👌. You said your wife did a good job with the puffy, but I think the better job is to have such a nice wife👏🙏. Please could you tell me something about the size of your groundsheet? Hey JJ, I love your videos. You asked what the Tacticloak fabric is made of. According to their website, "This TactiCloak™ is made from a lightweight ripstop spandex laminated fabric that has a Durable Water Resistance (DWR) finish which repels water". So... very fancy spandex. I really like the shape and design, and I love your shelter configuration. Unfortunately the $650 price point is way out of my price range. Those hand slits are weird though, considering it's designed to be a shelter as well as a cloak. For the price, I would expect them to have waterproof zippers on those hand slits. I guess if it was pouring down rain you could tape them up with Gorilla tape or similar, but it might leave a yucky residue.
Agreed.. They actually just contacted me and said they are going to work on my idea and said they would send me the updated version very soon.. That’s pretty impressive for a company to respond like that.. I was impressed.. They also stated they are potentially going to have a less expensive version in the future.. I really appreciate the kind words and support 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Hey man love the vid. The cloak is awesome and I would totally rock one.... If it wasn't $650. It looks like an amazing piece of gear but for that price you can literally outfit yourself with everything you would ever need and still have money left over. I think of that price they've pushed themselves outside of the reach of most people who would want it. If they could get the price down two between $100-200 they would sell thousands. I understand to do that would obviously be of a slight lesser material but I think it could be a good idea. I mean it's just so much money, you can't help but compare the price to stuff like that's a weapon system for self defense, let's have the price of a cheap bug-out vehicle I mean that used to be the full price of a cheap bug-out vehicle lol, like I said that's literally the cost of a full kit setup and you would still have at least $100 cash to put in the bag. Idk thoughts? Like I said I'm totally sold on this but not at that price if there was some way to get that to come down I'm in
It is definitely expensive and I think they are working on another version that will bring that price down
I too want to know what material the Cloak is made of. I would like to have an 8 x 9 piece of that.

The cloak was developed in Europe during the Middle Ages, to protect from the elements... during that time the sword was the main weapon, and the sword rested on the side, but when you pull it out, it deploys in front of your body, that's why the cloak opens in front of you...
The poncho on the other hand was nothing but a blanket that you use to sleep, with a cut in the middle, to slip your head three, and protect your back from the cold... the waterproofing came just recently, but that time, the sixshooter was the main weapon, and you deploy that from your side, that's why the poncho opens on the side... it wasn't meant to protect you from the rain [at first] so the use of a blanket [and the dimensions] were enough...
I've seen the material before, I don't know what is called, but the little hexagons are very recognizable... for the IR now, it's the chemicals used for the paint responsible, not the material itself... and it's best to wash it with just water if you have you, because meshing with chemicals, will mesh with its anti-IR properties...
.................................................................................. (when is the thermal camera coming?.. ) lol
Right?!?! I need it lol.. Thanks for the advice on washing the garment. I don’t have a lot of experience with stuff THAT expensive lol.. Don’t wanna ruin it! I believe a machine had to be responsible for the split tree- unless BIGFOOT was around lol
Go out and test your stuff while you can. Get comfortable with what you like or don't like about your equipment now. Many times, you find that what you bought isn't right for you. Don't wait until the test parameters are life or death to figure out your gear doesn't give you the benefit you expected it to provide.
Mic drop 🎤!!!
what fails most often is the PERSON. and the failure is usually their cover element. They dont want to lug around the needed 10 lbs of heavy clothing and and sleep/shelter gear, all day at 80F, to be able to handle 34F, wind and rain at night. I found a way to cut that to 5 lbs. and the gear is all useful in summer heat. It's all wearable as clothing and it's unaffect by its getting wet. There's ways to add dry debris and get it down to 20F and still be mobile, or to 10F, without a heat source. but that much debris is not portable. I've also got a discrete way to dry out wet debris. the US military says that at sub 10F, hostilities virtually cease, especially at night. So you can have an open fire. There's also a discrete way to heat rocks or water and those things help about 10F when inside of the foot box of your reflective tyvek bivy, for 2-3 hours at a time.
I’m interested in a discreet way to dry out debris for sure..
So what is the name of the cloak
And where do you get one at
The cloak is called the “tacti-cloak” and here is a link rnrforge.com 👍🏻

How does Jason wear his puffy for decades and yours doesn't last 10 minutes? Hmmm.. nevermind, I answered my own question! Haha! Joking! Kinda! Minus 33 is outstanding! Personally, I like Lester River bushcraft wool anorak! Heavy, but fantastic! There are more expensive out there, but there isn't anything better for the price in my opinion!
Haha.. I have no idea why Jason’s last longer- guess I treat my gear like a Silverback gorilla 😂..I do like the Lester River Anorak as well.. I modeled one I made after it.. They have a great reputation in the industry..
Did you put a link for said cloak and did you say how much the cloak was did I miss that in the video y'all can I get a reply please thank you
Rnrforge.com is the link.. I showed the price earlier when I showed the website- it’s currently $650

i was wondering what coat your wearing in this video
It’s a Pilgrim’s Anorak by Helikon Tex.. I love it!
build a fire, gather dry debris, heat up some rocks. /Remove your pants and foot wear, wade across the water, get what you want, wade back, dry off with debris, put dry clothing back on, warm-up with the rocks and fire,
I certainly thought about it but tried to stay focused on the video topic..
