This is interesting. I have always loved granny smith apples. When you bite into one it's like biting into one of sour ball candies you had as a child. It is that initial sharp tang followed by the juicy sweet sugars that makes my mouth water. Just last week I purchased 4 bags of some very large granny smith apples. Much larger than what I am used to seeing and they were labled *Chelan* from Washington State. I purchased them from ALDI food markets in Central Florida. Who knew....I might have some of your apples in my refrigerators crisper box right now :-)!
By the way the apples are really good. Sometimes suppliers will pick them green from the tree before the sugars have had time to develop and like anything that is picked before its time they don't taste all that good. But the Chelan granny smiths I got from ALDI this past week are really good. They are mostly green but have a slightly pinkish blush on one side. That is when you know the grannys are ready to go.
