    Less than 72 hours after taking silver in the 100m, the 23-year-old Londoner powered to the world title in the 200m to admirably live up to her role as favourite. She clocked 21.88 to clip 0.01 from the national record she set at the European Championships in Berlin 14 months ago.
    “You’re only the favourite if you go out and perform how people expect you to and I was really focused on putting together a good race,” said Asher-Smith, whose 10.83 performance in the 100m final on Sunday was also an improvement on the national record she set at those same continental championships.

Sprinters from other parts of the world have dominated sprinting since Beijing 2008. Americans can stay pressed that they ain’t had a clean sweep of sprint golds in major championships for over a decade and a half, like they used to before (drug cheats notwithstanding). It's a real shame this was missing the other big names, but Dina was the only athlete strong enough to proceed through all rounds of the 100m and 200m, and then also run the 4x100, medalling in all 3 events. And she did this after after a long ass season, where she'd earlier been crowned 100m diamond league champion.
    SMU would have beat Dina, but she was never gonna compete the 200m. The other big name drop-outs robbed Dina of a more memorable victory. It's obviously not her fault that none of them had the strength or willpower to attempt to challenge her in this final.

    Why was Ta Lou and Miller Uibo not in the line up? Though Asher's times was fast enough for the win

    • @ajrocks12x
      @ajrocks12x 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Wales: Miller Uibo was not entered to run the 200M. Her focus was always the 400M and she didn't win that one.
      Ta Lou would not have been close to DAS this race. Even at her best, Ta Lou has never run sub 22. Miller Uibo has been the only one to beat DAS in 2019, but if Miller-Uibo had entered this race after the 400M rounds, it is debateable if she would have beaten Asher Smith.
