- Can you curve an unstoppable water stream? Can we be real life water benders? We did some experiments with our 60,000 PSI waterjet and were surprised how well they worked.

This would be Warhammer 40K levels of “cleanse the unclean”
The small pipe probably worked worse because it had a ton of friction. Lots of lost energy. The toilet hoses worked surprisingly well, I can't think of a better reason than what you suggested in the video that the curve was smooth enough to keep the stream gradually changing direction instead of hitting a relatively flat surface and then spreading out.

Surface area dosen't change amount of friction. ;)
@@jannejohansson3383 Surface area proportional to the total volume of fluid very much affects velocity of the fluid because more of it is proportionally experiencing friction. Look up shear force in newtonian fluids.

Great video. I feel like this is just scratching the surface of what sort of experiments and knowledge you could gain from trying to redirect the stream. Let’s see a follow up video testing some more techniques!

So I'd recommend freezing water in the steel tube first before bending it and using a pipe bender that fully supports the pipe. Also you want as large of a radius on the bend as possible to reduce any point friction and distribute the energy more.

In order to redirect the jet you need the angle of incidence to angle of redirection to be less steep than the angle of grip. So in general with what you are dealing with you would likely need something along the lines of a… 3 ft diameter circle shape for the tube? Get the hole as close as you can to the firing size, and at the far end to deal with the spread possibly lightly crimp the end into a cat eye slit to refocus the initial shape
(Mind you im saying that number ENTIRELY off guesstimated mental math, and you want metal with as little give in it as physically possible. The problem with what you had was that the metals involved basically got punched, warped, caught even more direct pressure, then burst. Ideally you would want something almost like diamond where it has zero give and high hardness plus a Tiny diameter and the correct curvature. Try to get the pipe AS close to the size of the incoming stream as possible, or even aTINY be smaller)

The angle that the water jet is pointed into the tube matters, it needs to be at just the right angle, and then it should still have a good amount of pressure.

I apologize cus I'm probably wrong anyway, but if i were to guess why the little but thick pipe didn't work, it might have something to do with it not being sealed, or watertight between the jet and pipe. Something to do with vacuum and air resistance maybe. The air in the pipe actually becomes a "wall" perhaps. Takes away a lot of the forward momentum. Your sarcastic quip at the end hints at your annoyance with know it alls busting down the door to your channel i suppose.

How can you operate a water jet and be so clueless. Do you not understand nozzle, velocity, pressure? You are taking water out of a nozzle, putting it in 10x diameter pipe with no diameter reduction. This is just silly.
