Honestly this was the MOST BEAUTIFUL costume drama ever!!!! I am so tremendously elated that Chen Kun produced this. The level of crafstmanship that was undertaken was absolutely phenomenal! I wish it were possible to create a Season 2 and of course a more positive ending with the emperor and empress actually marrying and working together.
According to what I’ve discovered, the emperor Ning Yi was assassinated but the page doesn’t say anything more, like how that happened and at what age he died.

In them Feng Zhiwei survived her flailing herself off the cliff and was found by either Gu Nayi or some random farmer. Later the emperor Ning Yi fakes his death to be reunited with Feng Zhiwei and his younger brother Ning Ji becomes emperor.
yes the costume is indeed kinda accurate but the hair ornaments are dissapointing ;(, i guess they want to emphasize that its a fantasy drama set loosely on Tang dynasty which it is. but the hair pin in this period are so beautiful, the hanfu however is top notch
I wish that I could understand what they're talking about in this. However, I love the series, the casting, the costume, and the makeup, especially Ning Yi's hair, which looked very natural 👌 either he put the hair down or pulled it up. Soooo perfectly!!! And Outstanding!!! Ning Yi is so handsome and acting excellent 👏 Love him, love the whole series ❤❤❤❤❤
I watched 'The Rise of the Phoenixes' on Netflix, and man, this drama series raised the bar so high for historic dramas that every other drama before and since seem like half arsed low budget amateur attempts. The quality of film, editing, costumes, sets and above all, the plotline - absolutely set a new gold standard for Asian periodic dramas. Even the dubbing was done by the same actors, even though few episodes suffer synching issues. BUT I never thought they did this on such a large scale, from carving wooden décor, to making hair accessories and jewelry! I have only ever seen this type of meticulous attention to settings in Harry Potter, LoR, Hobbit series (to name a few) and few big budget Bollywood historical movies . This video totally blew my mind - because Asian periodic dramas (Chinese, Korean, Thai - only 1 Thai period drama, haven't yet explored Japanese ones) before and since this particular drama, were all lacking - be it plotline, or costumes, sets, ACTING, graphics and general anachronism abound - if not for the period costumes, you can't even tell it's meant to be set in historic times🙄🙄🙄. But this one, was clearly labour of love and I am very very glad Netflix made this available to international viewers. And contrary to the popular opinion, I found the ending very much fitting - that Feng Zhewei was finally able to see past the brainwashing her brother had done in last few episodes and took a mature decision to Not repeat the tragic history. I was in awe that, Ning Yi faced the death of his love like a responsible adult and an Emperor, strengthened his will to keep going instead of becoming a drunken mess who pinned after his death lover. The last scene was so powerful; because this drama is Different, it's not a poorly written clichéd love story plotted to bring the leads in romantic bliss, this is about an empire and fight for throne. Not to say the classic elements of unimaginative romantic storytelling weren't present in this drama. But By reducing it to it's romantic moments - to just a smart crossdresser female lead and her scheming Prince, demeans the rich storytelling and rest of the characters and their development throughout the series, who all are part of this drama and collectively contributed to the storyline. Then again, I do prefer cerebral, political intrigue over romance 😏 because most East Asian dramas are so poorly written and executed just to satisfy the romantics 🙄, the rest of us have to even suffer the clichéd slow Mo moments b/w the leads just for this very purpose. So the ending was like a good solid conclusion to the epic journey of every character. After all, their lives were so rich of political intrigue and bloodshed that had they ended up together, it would have been like spitting on all their life experiences and personal growth so far just for the sake of 'Happy Ending'. It'd have been naïve and selfish of them both to be who they are and yet ignore the implications for few year of matrimonial bliss at the expense of repeating the tragic history.
This! I also don't hate the ending. I also don't like typical love stories all too much and part of what drew me to this is that the political drama was center stage and the love story was the subplot. I enjoyed the dialogue very much even if I have to pause once in awhile to digest the subtitles.
@@shreyajanga9296 then Nirvana in Fire would be your 1st choice. Royal Nirvana also more about political struggles of a crown prince but personally not my cup of tea. And Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace is more about how a marriage died... maybe not too much to your preference. All three of them offered great cinematography and good visuals to watch though... hope you may find one of them enjoyable...

All of the artistry, craftsmanship, and talent that went into making the best drama series worldwide. Now, we DESPERATELY need Season 2 to be released so we can see a happy ending for GORGEOUS Ning Yi and BEAUTIFUL Feng Zhiwei. The fans deserve it as well as the actors, directors, producers, artists, and staff. I have watched Season 1 three times already within a 5 to 6 month period.
This was such a beautiful show... Even though the ending was disappointing, the costumes, sets, cinematography, acting, music - everything was perfect. I am so glad Netflix decided to include this on the platform so westerners could see how great epic chinese TV shows could be.

Lush, gorgeous production. Such attention to detail. Wonderful performances. Everything just took my breath away. I've watched it 3 times! And will watch it again and again.
I'm halfway through the series and it's such an incredible show. Even though the pacing is slow, it doesn't get tedious for me and I still care about every scene because they are meticulously executed and exquisitely detailed. I know it was condensed to like 56 episodes for TV but I'm really glad Netflix is showing all 70.
I LOVE THOSE VIDEOS!! I love the show and it's such a privilege to be able to see how it was made. So much work and so much talent went into making it, wow!

OMG, this was one of the best Epics that I have ever watched in my life; I watched this 5 times on Netflix and was just blown away by the entire cast of actors & actresses; the Director of this movie/drama - Shen Yan Liu Haibo, deserves some global recognition and awards for the creation of this Epic - a truly amazing feat of cinematography. I cried so much when I watched this, it really touched my soul, much respect to all involved in the creation of this, well done! Namaste.

Смотрела в автопереаоде, шедевр просто шедевр. Костюмы, декорации, Съёмки, режиссура, всё просто на высоте! Чен Кунь невероятен. В Китае много красивых и талантливых молодых актёров, но он БЕСПОДОБЕН. Я просто счастлива, что смотрела эту невероятную драму.

Just wish there were English subtitles too as this production was extraordinary in the detailed equistie beauty! It was not easy trying to keep up with the subtitles due to so much outrageous beauty! Mahalo 🌺 Nui Chen for funding this production! My only complaint was the over the top psychopath tantrums that made it like a weird ridiculous soap opera. Yes, I believe behind the scenes that the global cabal syndication mobsters (whom have been running this planet and fight each other for control) do have melt downs, but not quite like literal 2 year old babies.

Yes!!!!! I appreciated the musical scores as well. They are the best compared to all of the period dramas I've seen thus far and I've watched a lot. 😌

喜歡天盛這劇，拍了70集竟被箭剩50多集，啊多可惜！一部制作非常認真的劇，演員，服裝，佈景，都超水準。看時的感覺就像在讀小說一樣，感覺非常好。被各演員的出色表現吸引了，由其是陳坤！

I always love chinese costume drama. The effort they put to release the drama amazed me. Sometimes i wonder if it worth all the time, money and energy. All those little details...wish more people will appreciate this type of drama.

It truly intrigues me, as to how much detail and the magnitude of all that the work encompasses to bring such brilliant work together for our pleasure.. And I have always wanted to have a look into this creative space. I do like to learn the names of the actors, so that I can keep an eye out for them in other movies, plus it is nice to know a little about them as people. Thank you once again.

Просмотрела драму про китайских Ромео и Джульетту и пришла к выводу - Шекспир должен нервно курить в стороне, эта драма круче!. Несравненно круче и почти так же печально заканчивается! Смотрела в автопереаоде, шедевр просто шедевр. Костюмы, декорации, Съёмки, режиссура, всё просто на высоте! Чен Кунь невероятен. В Китае много красивых и талантливых молодых актёров, но он БЕСПОДОБЕН. Я просто счастлива, что смотрела эту невероятную драму.

Just wish there were English subtitles too as this production was extraordinary in the detailed equistie beauty! It was not easy trying to keep up with the subtitles due to so much outrageous beauty! Mahalo 🌺 Nui Chen for funding this production! My only complaint was the over the top psychopath tantrums that made it like a weird ridiculous soap opera. Yes, I believe behind the scenes that the global cabal syndication mobsters (whom have been running this planet and fight each other for control) do have melt downs, but not quite like literal 2 year old babies.
